"The following images were automatically attached, because your profile specified you only want to recieve messages from NEW users with pictures. " I NEVER specified this...how can I change it? Its annoying...HELP!!
Go to your profile / mail. Under mail settings (at the very bottom) it says:
Allow emails from Local Singles Events: Yes No Allow emails(first contact) from users without images on their profile: Yes No Recieve email when someone ads you to favorites(3 per day max): Yes No
The system automatically chooses all the photos to be sent when the restriction is in place.
So if you have the restriction on your profile preventing new users from contacting you without a photo. If the user does not choose a photo then all of them sent to you.
Allow emails(first contact) from users without images on their profile:
Most Mail Setting Restrictions can be viewed on Someone's Profile, but:
or
... "Profile Specified" Selection Options do not show, cannot be seen.
"New Users" refers to People who have never contacted you before.
When a User fails to post an Image on his Profile and/or select a Pic for E-Mail Attachment, the System automatically attaches, unbeknowest to that User, all the Images from his Profile.
It serves to prevent circumventing Anyone's 'First Contact' Mail Restrictions.
Ok so if a person without a main profile pic tries to send an email to someone with a restriction on members without pics, you automatically send all pics? Is this correct?
That seems like a major infringement on a person's privacy to me. You're sending ALL a person's pics (without their knowledge too!!) when they obviously choose not to have one on their profile for their own reasons. This is wrong !!
Wouldn't a better option be to have a message for this eventuality. Ie, when attempting to send mail to someone who will only accept mail with pics :
"This user does not accept messages from users without pics, please attach a pic to your email or this mail will not be accepted"
Much fairer to offer a choice - some people have very valid reasons for not posting their pics publically.
When a User fails to post an Image on his Profile and/or select a Pic for E-Mail Attachment, the System automatically attaches, unbeknowest to that User, all the Images from his Profile.
And, does this mean that this rule applies to users WITH a main pic too ?
As for this
unbeknowest to that User
Completely out of order, surely we have some rights regarding privacy here?!!
The person that they are contacting has a photo restriction in place.
As Ticketoride pointed at earlier...
Allow emails(first contact) from users
without images on their profile:
If you want to contact that person you MUST also send a photo.
The system is working in conjunction with the recipients requests that a photo be sent with the contact message. If someone does not choose to enclose one then the system sends all of them. Programming does not discern between the type of photo you want sent so it sends them all.
unbeknowest to that User
IMHO, this is not completely true. They did send an email to someone with a photos restriction. If they had no photos on their profile then the email simply would not go through.
Completely out of order, surely we have some rights regarding privacy here?!!
Otherwise, do not contact users with a photo restriction that way you do not have to send any photos.
The person that they are contacting has a photo restriction in place.
Those pictures are the personal property of the user, why bother having the option to not have a main pic if you can show them to whoever you want anyway?
I and many other users have probably sent emails to people with restrictions that we didn't notice. We receive a message telling us why we can't mail them and get re-directed to our inbox.
Why can't this have the same rule?
Or, at the very least, give the option to add a pic or not !
I'm VERY slow on this...so it is the RECEIVER'S restrictions that cause ME to send all my photos?
If that is the case, and going by what you say here:
If someone does not choose to enclose one then the system sends all of them. Programming does not discern between the type of photo you want sent so it sends them all.
Right, so how does one go about choosing which photo they want to send?
Side question: Why require a photo to be sent if a main photo is visible on the profile? The receiver doesn't need to actually view the profile to see it, as it is in the heading of the email.
When I requested to only be contacted by people who post a picture on their profiles, that's all I meant....that a picture had to be up on their profile, period!
Now I get first contact emails LOADED with all of that person's pictures....geesh...
My reasons for my mail settings are to avoid people who might be hidding from something or someone by not posting a main pic up on their profile, and that's what that filter used to do....why do I need to see all their pics on my mail?? I can see those pictures when I look at the sender's profile ...and it embarrases me to high hell thinking I might have sent someone a short note just to say hi or something and here's all my pictures sent along with it!! Again...geesh..!!!!
Couln't it be changed to the way it used to be.....which was that my filters used to block first contact messages from senders with no pictures on their profiles, the way it was intended for in the first place ??!!??
But this is not what the filter was originally for....the filter was for me to NOT receive mail from people with no pics up on their profile (to avoid married,fake,etc...)
It never mattered to me that a person who didn't have a picture up for the WHOLE world to see chose to then send me one in private...didn't prove a thing to me....do you know what I mean?
I don't like that now if I contact someone for the first time, I have to remember to attach a photo of myself which I hate doing as to me that looks vain...or else ALL my photos will be attached (how embarrassing!)....I fail to see the point of this new policy....the filters worked fine the way they were...it blocked people with no pictures on their profiles....*sigh*....maybe I don't understand because I'm french?!? haha!!
I have my settings as above and have just received a message from someone with no picture on their profile but instead of using the cat they have attached a picture of a real hunky, good looking guy and I assumed I was chatting to this person at first until HE (the profile owner) told me he had no knowledge of the other picture as he chose to hide his pictures. He has since let me view his pics but I feel he is lying to me after reading all these posts. I was not aware of the new 'include a pic or all pics are sent ruling' as I have not tried to contact anyone other than replying to received mails recently. It would seem that he has deliberately posted a picture of this other person, so that he does not have to send all his pictures?? Does anyone agree?? I would like to be sure as he is denying any knowledge of another picture. I do quite like him but do not want to proceed if he cannot be trusted. He is a new user and practically lives on my doorstep. I have tried replying to him via the mail containing the picture, with the question; 'if you can see this picture, is someone using your profile? ' I will wait for a response to this before directly accusing him of deliberately misleading me with someone else's picture in order to gain access to me. The other alternative is: Would admin attach a random picture of a new user in someone's profile because that profile owner does not themselves have a picture? If this is the case, it is very, very misleading.
Allow emails(first contact) from users without images on their profile:
... you can allow contact from those who do not have a Pic on their Profile.
I still dont get it; if I have private pics that I *can* attach but shoose not to, they are automatically sent with a message I wrote to someone?
That is against *MY* desires and seems, like mentioned above, to violate a persons privacy. I've nothing to hide, but what the heck?! Its the same as you sending an email to someone via outlook express. It's almost like a trojan, an unwanted program collecting info and transmitting it without the users permission. And from what I read on here, the website owners have not this very clear that this is what will happen. *sniff sniff* I smell a suit down the road!
So how can I disable private pictures I have uploaed to my profile page (that do not show when someone does a search for my user name) from being sent in a private message?
