What do you look for in a beach?Page 1 of 2    (1, 2)
There are different kind of beaches where you can swim, surf, play in the sand, snorkel..........what is your favorite kind and your favorite beach? I am in central Florida, I have beaches to the east and west of me. I prefer the beaches on the west (Gulf) coast. The sand is white, the water is not too rough but still fun to play in. My favorite beach is Bradenton beach located on Anna Maria Island.

St. George's Island is my favorite. It is in the panhandle of Florida. It has white sand, surf, secluded spots, camp ground, surf fishing, bar on the beach. You can see the sunrise and sunset on the water from the same spot, without a crowd of people. You are allowed on the beach at any hour, day or night.

Mostly nice sand, most of the beaches on keys are seashell gravel *UGH*, south of England are the rounded rocks, shingles they call it *UGH*, plus clean water preferable blue or azure, palm trees are a nice touch too but not entirely necessary.

One beach where I used to live had tons of seagull poop in the spring *YUCK* not sure if they cleaned it off or it biodegraded by itself.

I like some of the beaches on Sint Maarten...where I live. Unspoiled, quite, no tourists, no buildings, palm trees, and clear blue water.....

Venice, Florida has great beaches, also. POF parties are often held there at a place called Sharky's. Cool place.........nice restaurant, tiki bar, fishing pier and the beach is beautiful with clear water and great shelling. Finding shark's teeth is a favorite thing to do. Going to make it to one of those parties.............sounds like they have a great time.

I first look for sand.
Water's nice, too, especially if there are actual waves (meaning higher than my ankles...)
Girls are a nice addition.

Seriously, though, my favorite beaches are some of the southwestern French Atlantic coast, northwestern Ireland (a little cold, but nice), and Georgia.
Same as Florida with a lot less people.

okay, i'm not really a beach person...my favourite kind (no laughing!) are rocky beaches cause i like to hop all over the rocks, look between them for creatures, lift the rocks to see what's under them, etc. my dad and i used to do this when i was a kid whenever we went back to england as they lived near the seaside and they were rocky, etc., hunting winkles.

so, yeah, that's my favourite kind of beach.

otherwise, just clean, that's all. i've been on some really dirty beaches with all sorts of garbage popping out of the sand--not pleasant.

I usually look for the shade :) seriously some of the beaches in Florida are lovely, but better than those are some of the islands off the coast of Thailand, I think I am correct in saying that one of those same islands was used in the filming of 'The Beach' with Mr Leonardo De Caprio and was later hit by the asian tsunami a couple of years back

I love relaxing in sunny, hot, and tranquil locations with a clear blue sky during the day times, and a gentle breeze to keep me cool at all times. But a beautiful location on its own is never enough for me.

I like to enjoy and to participate in the ambience of contentment, pleasure, fun, and, goodwill to all, created by the happy people, whether tourists or residents, in such locations. And I also enjoy eating nice tasty fried fishes, or other tasty well seasoned meals, and drinking ice cold beers or alcoholic fruit punches, while laughing and talking about trivial topics with my close friends and family.

And, lastly, I just love to hear the barely audible beats from the rhymns of reggae music rocking the air somewhere in a distant but sufficiently close location.

Thus, in view of the above, and because I just love white sand beaches , I am likely to choose a white sand beach on the northern coast of Jamaica.

The island where they filmed, "The Beach" is on the east side of Phuket and did not get hit by that tsunami in 2004. BTW, I've been there and it is incredible place

OP: Bradenton beach or Holmes beach is to die for as far as I'm concerned..even Siesta Key beach in Florida can't hold a candle to Anna Maria Island's white, silky sand and the clear tourqoise water on the Gulf coast takes my breath away daily.

I wouldn't trade where I live for a million sand dollars. You are right in your assessment, and I'll see ya on Anna Maria island one day! I live here and and I'm honored that you feel that way about our beaches. The Gulf coast of Florida is simply the best and I've been on some of the most beautiful beaches of the Mediterranean and the Pacific Coast.

I still wouldn't live anywhere but the Gulf coast of Florida.

You are welcome here anytime, my friend.

White soft sand, clear warm water and few people. Australia is spoilt for choice when it comes to beaches: Wineglass Bay in Tasmania and Whitehaven Beach on Whitsunday Island are regularly voted two of the top beaches in the world. I'll be moving later this year and can't wait to swim in the freshwater lakes on Fraser Island, and see Lady Elliot and Lady Musgrave Islands.

Sanschele: I lived on the island, in Holmes Beach, for 7 years. I loved it. That was many years ago and I hope to move back one day. For now it is only a 90 minute drive so I go there often. I hope the condominiums don't completey take over all the ocean views and beach accesses.

Nautical: The condo's are fighting daily to take over "our island", luckily there are strong people like you and I to fight them tooth and nail to keep our island "idiot free" regarding coporate America. and they're losing an uphill battle if I have anything to do with it..hehe From one islander to another..*high five* my friend, see ya soon one day. You belong here. Bulldozers don't.

i normally dont look for anything when it comes to beaches.. but lately i noticed each beaches has different kind of sand textures.. not just colors .. best beach i had been is in the Siargao.. a small island in the philippines.. part of the island was a surfing paradise and the otherside is great snorkeling all you get is the ripples.. not to mention clean, uncrowded and unspoiled.. okk i admit.. for me asia beaches is the best..whether your in philippines, thailand or veitnam.. .. altho i been told puerto rico is need to be discover the island of viesque ( not sure of the speling of the island).

Mallorca's (Spain) Playa El Arenal, Palma Nova and Illetes beaches. Lovely white sand and turquoise ocean, and not terribly hot.

My favorite beaches are the ones on the Florida panhandle. Floury white sands and blue-green water is a hard combination to beat.

ocean. i don't care if it's a sandy beach, a rocky beach, a cliff... as long as there's ocean... the smell and the feel in the air are enough to thrill me to bits (grew up on vancouver island... living out in alberta now... not so much water out here... that saddens me a bit).
