| A Query on the Man Cave. Posted: 7/27/2007 11:42:43 PM | I read something on the 'ask a girl' posts about retreats.
Which got me to thinking about the man cave. Which got me to wondering if men put much thought into the cave's ambience.
Is your cave decorated and very hip or more Amish and stark. Do you even bother to think about decorating the man cave?

Decorating? What's that?
|
| A Query on the Man Cave. Posted: 7/27/2007 11:56:08 PM | mine is pretty stark, aside from the bobbleheads, pennants and buffett paraphernalia.

| A Query on the Man Cave. Posted: 7/28/2007 12:05:54 AM | My cave is the ultimate experience.
I have a 180 degree view from my balcony - scenecly overlooking a major U.S. city.... my colours are gender neutral yet, sensually appealing. I have red in the right places. Macho colours such as black and brown envelope the bedroom with accents that are soft and feminine.
I removed the bats from my cave and allowed infiltration of cupids. I accented my cupids attire with leather, studs and chrome plated arrows.
I hope I've excited the extreme.

It's simple and functional.
Do you even bother to think about decorating the man cave? Beyond a basic coat of paint? Nope.

| A Query on the Man Cave. Posted: 7/28/2007 12:49:31 AM | | Wow! My second kaagwaantaan thread of the night. I really admire the way women can decorate. Last weekend I was at a woman's house that had small, decorative glass block window in the wall facing the dining room. On the dining room side she had a 2 1/2 foot figure dressed like a little boy with his eyes to the window like he was peering into it. On the other side was a like sized figure of a little girl peering out. I thought that was way cool and the kind of touch that only a woman can think of. My cave is jammed full of "stuff" and leans much more toward the functional than the decorative. Although I do have a large stuffed gorilla in my living room which I sometimes put in the passenger seat of my car to give people a startle. | |

| A Query on the Man Cave. Posted: 7/28/2007 6:54:21 AM | I like keeping my cave simple. Why put doodads everywhere? I'll leave it up to my future ex to decorate it. | |

| A Query on the Man Cave. Posted: 7/28/2007 6:55:09 AM | Mine gets redecorated regularly. The color changes with every car I paint in it | |

| A Query on the Man Cave. Posted: 7/28/2007 6:55:38 AM | i dont if you can really call what straight men do, "decorating". we tend to have our retreat cluttered with sports memorabilia, our old trophies and some assorted porn. LOL. as we mature though, we tend to get blinds for the window and put away the flag.
stereotypes are wonderful, eh?

| A Query on the Man Cave. Posted: 7/28/2007 9:31:10 AM | My decorating talent SUCKS. I've actually hired interior decorators. They are worth every nickle.
"Retreat into their cave" myth created by women as an excuse to substitute the fact that the guy just isn't really interested.
|
| A Query on the Man Cave. Posted: 7/28/2007 9:36:00 AM | Mine is pretty cool...Spartan, but w/ an eye toward color & nice layout.
Furniture/furnishings are an eclectic but complimentary mix of modern/retro/antique.
I get compliments for men and women who say it fits me well...so I must be doing something right.
My workshop on the other hand looks like a bomb went off.....

| A Query on the Man Cave. Posted: 7/28/2007 9:47:42 AM | | I don't do curtains. I put blinds up, but I keep getting told I need curtains...I've got scented candles, vases, the odd figurine and even a dried arrangement somewhere. But it would be a cold day in hell before I do curtains. I don't know why. I'm just not that gay. | |

| A Query on the Man Cave. Posted: 7/28/2007 10:02:58 AM | I don't live in a cave. I live in a studio flat, or otherwise known as an apartment. It came decorated very nicely, so I had to do little to it. Every so often I think about decorating. But then, I think, why? It's nicer the way it is. | |

| A Query on the Man Cave. Posted: 7/28/2007 10:08:46 AM | My "MAN CAVE" is the garage. I have it wired for cable, a couple of old recliners and a fridge.
Decorations? I have some scantly dressed ladies on calendars, and a spray painted mark on the wall, but nothing really. My toolbox looks nice.
I wish I had a '69 Cougar Convertable in there, but no luck yet.
So, I guess what ever you have up.
I need a woman for nothing else but to prteey up my life.

| A Query on the Man Cave. Posted: 7/28/2007 11:28:14 AM | I bring a whole bunch of skill to the table; I do it all myself. I make my own furniture. I do it all how I like it, retro style. I have a custom vynl upholsterd bed that is kind of art deco but feels like a classic muscle car with tuck and roll seating. I also refurnish old furniture and I buy nothing new. I have a high attention to detail and the paint on the walls has to be just right, meaning perfect. I do my own woodwork and moldings, I like my window sills over the top.
I could show you pictures of my work. I am very proud of it.

| A Query on the Man Cave. Posted: 7/28/2007 11:32:32 AM | | OH yeah.....I have a very chic style in my home decorating...I call it MINIMALISM. | |
|
| A Query on the Man Cave. Posted: 7/28/2007 11:44:18 AM | Put me in an insane asylum like room with white walls and the plainest of furniture. As long as I've got access to my stuff and can go out, I'll be perfectly happy.
I honestly don't get the "need to decorate" that so many people have. I'll admit, I kind of like seeing before and after shots of made up rooms or houses, but I don't get the desire to do it to my own place.
|
| A Query on the Man Cave. Posted: 7/28/2007 11:54:49 AM | Talking about minimalism, I'm really into the post post modern penthouse Al Pacino had in The Devil's Advocate. Natural pristine ungrouted concrete. Superb. | |
|
| A Query on the Man Cave. Posted: 7/28/2007 12:14:52 PM | My "cave" could be described as hi-tech. A place with blinking lights and screens all over. I love technology and find solace in it.
I am one that has a desire for knowledge, enlightenment, and entertainment. Sure, that may seem rather cold and disconnected in some peoples eyes, but its exactly the opposite...
As much as I enjoy nature and the simple, yet beautiful things in life, I would be unhappy if I were without the benefit of an evolution of purpose for too long...

| A Query on the Man Cave. Posted: 7/28/2007 12:36:06 PM | I designed all three of the houses I have owned. This one is the smallest and best built (it is a tank).
I am of the contemporary strain - no curly cues - or doilies for me oh and keep the flowers in the vase - not on the fabrics/walls.
I was just starting this house when I meet my ex wife. We got married and all four (she had two little girls) moved in when it was done.
She was only 26 then but ......... here came the granny decor.
Seventeen years later - she took off to be her now “independent woman” - (you go girl) and I have managed to bring in some decor that the place was designed to be from the start. Lack of funds prohibited the real make over.
My house is no were near what I wish it was but .......
When I win the power ball jackpot ...... I will maybe even stay here but ........ oh baby. It has the design already - it has the structure already but .... big bucks would allow high dollar “modern” decor - which is hard to even find here in the mid west and cost an arm and a leg.
Now this house is 21 years old and showing its age - has some long overdue fix ups needed but .......... oh well - maybe next power ball drawing lol.

I could show you pictures of my work. I am very proud of it.
If you are serious....drop me a note. I would be delighted to see your work.
I have been crocheting since I was 8 and can pretty much put my hand to just about art/craft type project.
I'm fascinated by the creative process. Although I'm not a big fan of motorcycles, I LOVE watching American Chopper. (geez I'm tempted to turn the sound off sometimes, all that bickering gives me hives). And I can't help myself. It was the same thing with pimp my ride. This old house....New Yankee Workshop...Quilt shows and cooking shows.....
I think it's just watching other people CREATE things. I find it fascinating in all forms.
Gents...thanks for sharing your man cave styles.
For the guy waiting on a wife to decorate for him. That's nice.

| A Query on the Man Cave. Posted: 7/28/2007 6:28:30 PM | Had women never existed, men would STILL be sitting in caves - with 60 inch plasma screens . | |

| A Query on the Man Cave. Posted: 7/28/2007 6:30:02 PM | When I was married I made myself a cozy cave in the garage. Plywood wall treatments, mini fridge, Cable, it was all good. Then one weekend she decorated it for me while I was out of town. Even put up curtains....I had to abandon that cave, it just smelled of potpourri after that. Now that she's gone, me and my 15 year old son have been working on our new indoor cave...We've had it fumigated and exorcised to get rid of all the Martha Stewartness we had before....Now it's homey... I weld as a hobby and have made much of my own furniture. If I had to classify my new Decor, it would be minimalist/industrial. Sort of like me, simple, strong, and extremely heavy duty...Even if it is a bit rusty...lol | |
