Was just remembering back to the late 80s early 90s when some of us used to go out to the old raves until it went into main stream clubs, have your musical tastes changed since then?

Do you still listen to rave music / hardcore etc?

Only oldskool or keep up with the current hardcore scene?

Did you go to any organised/disorganised raves? Any good stories?

I was lucky enough to be living in Surrey during most of that period so managed to get out and about quite a bit.

Must admit I have to be in the mood now to listen to some trance, techno or happy hardcore. Mostly in the car or on a night out.

Do you keep to a particular genre like speed garage, techno, happy hardcore, trance, drum and bass etc?

Happy hardcore, but no-where plays it, dirty nasty 180bpm acid techno, but no-where plays it.
Seen slipmatt just made a new CD gonna have to get it and see how he's doing...he's always worth seeing live as is Sy.
No where plays proper dance music anymore...Garage is dance music for kids who learnt to dance at line dancing, used to like venues where the walls and floors got wet with the amount of moisture that was comming off the peoples bodies...then when you got knackered you could stand at the bottom of the stairs and watch people slip over and fall down them...
Ahhh those were the days. Now I occasionally go out for a lager.

There are some clubs that still play decent hardcore, but most I agree seem to play that horrible (what I call) handbag crap which was the stuff that originally came out of the gay scene.

Ah, great, great days. The era which I fondly remember and am proud to have been a part of. Fond memories of lovely people having the time of their lives.

Do you still listen to rave music / hardcore etc?

I still listen to some old skool, although not so much nowadays. To be quite honest - it's pretty shit compared to the modern day Technical brilliance which many producers are able to create. Have maximum respect for the early pioneers though. If it wasn't for them...

Only oldskool or keep up with the current hardcore scene?

I'm abit too long in the tooth nowadays for Hardcore, and oldskool is something which us oldies reminisce about.

Did you go to any organised/disorganised raves? Any good stories?

I used to travel the country with a few buddies of mine. We used to get down to the Eclipse in Coventry and Shellys in Stoke quite often. Shelleys was legendary and the club where the great Sasha began his long and illustrious DJ'ing career. I remember one time I got bust in the car park by under cover pigs and spent the night in the cells whilst all my mates where having the time of their lives. I still have a few tapes I bought from there.

I was lucky enough to be living in Surrey during most of that period so managed to get out and about quite a bit.

You ever get to any of the Spiral Tribes illegal events? I heard they were the biz back then.

Do you keep to a particular genre like speed garage, techno, happy hardcore, trance, drum and bass etc?

I tend to keep my hand in where Trance is concerned. I still buy Vinyl and give it a twirl on my 1210s. Admittedly I've lost the interest of late. But I intend to get back spinning again. I've got one or two old skool tunes but I hardly touch them.

Edit: Oh year! - Raindance! I went to the New Years eve Raindance 1992/93. Also went to the Fantazia events and Amnesia House open air events.. and not to mention some dodgy private illegal operations on weird traveller sites. VVV

Used to go to mainly rain dance events tbh, though I think they did a couple sorta crap festival events which was more than one of the old organisers.

Think I had some tunes of theirs on vinyl, if its them that produced their own white labels.

Few of the raves looked like a millets sale with just a few tents and a couple of portaloos for 5-600 people, was mad and great, to old now, would be looking for me slippers and wondering where I could get a nice hot cuppa tea.

Ive done a few fantasia`s and dreamscapes ( Best fantasia was castle donnington.. ratpack anyone ), but i think the illegal raves were ALOT better, not commercial and just organised at a whim.

I still regularly listen to oldskool sets that i have, and i still cant get enough of all the oldskool rave scene, i recently bought some Fantasia clothes from their website for nights out . I should really grow up and move past this point in my past, but as some dj said.. HARDCORE WILL NEVER DIE...

I played an oldskool set last night at The cabin - Porthcawl.

I think there are far too many DJ's playing boring hardcore stomping about behind the turntables gurning and punching their arms into the air on every beat, but that doesn't impress me much!

The scenes gone too weird for my liking, personally I can only manage drum and bass, oldskool, and breakbeat, oh and turntablism as well. Thats always the sign of a talented DJ and I love to watch them in action, unlike the plonkers stomping gurning and punching the air like demented lunatics , thats not very talented at all!

After I finished the oldskool set I never had so many people shaking my hand saying how much they love the old tunes. And I don't think enough of us do it. Everytime I went on pirate radio I kept getting requests to rewind the records via telephone calls and texts haha
Some organisations do keep it alive, slammin vinyl, raindance, etc But we need more old skool DJ's at the smaller local events too.

I like all sorts though. As long as the bass is there I'm a happy chappy, going to see soul 2 soul and their sound system next weekend, the weekend after going to a drum and bass event with 5 or 6 of the top guys in the business.

I wasn't old enough to go to a lot of the raves back in the day, but my cousin used to take me to house parties and stuff in 1989/90 so I got to hear it (it's her fault I got into this stuff =| ) . I was lucky enough to get to the first Quadrant Park reunion though a year or so ago (I think) and I've been friends with some of the old Blackburn warehouse dj's for a bit (those that are still knocking about that is). I've also managed to check some of the smaller acid house revival events in the North West. There's demand for that stuff still!

Personally, I've got a big big love of old goa trance. There's a bit of a old school goa revival going on in Europe atm from certain labels. I'm not talking about the Infected Mushroom stuff, I mean the more acid house sounding stuff from 1993/4 from labels like Dragonfly, TIP etc... I can't get enough of it.

I haven't been able to listen to Hardcore for quite a few years. It's gone a bit pants IMO. =(

I used to go to the Point Inn and Kellys(before it became Lush) back in 1992.......ahhh heady days and nights. I still love listening to old tapes from way back then but would never go to a club. Bit long in the tooth for that now, and i stopped dabbling in alcohol and other substances a couple of years ago.

I am an old raver..

I used to frequent Tribal Gatherings, World Dances, Desires, and local smaller events. I got into it quite late though in 93. I suppose i was part of the 'E' generation, and i'm not ashamed.

I still enjoy most of the music now, although happy hardcore does my head in! I am a regular forum member of Back to the oldskool website, and also Stressfactor pirate radio. (Although not under Twin--Peaks i might add lol). I prefer old skool acid house, stuff from the very beginning in 88-89 the likes of tunes played at Sunrise and Genesis. My passion is house though..deep dark and dirty..i love it all.

I used to spin (or try to because honestly i was crap!)..for about 2 years i was self employed selling vinyl on Ebay...now i have sold the lot to move to Cambs...broke my heart!

If i could have went to any event back in the day that i missed....it would have been Quadrant Park events....atmosphere, dj's and tunes had to be seen to be believed.

Yes, i'm a wee bit passionate about the good old days.
For todays scene, sadly i'm not really interested...it's the old tunes i like alongside the memories. Although i do support the up and coming drum n bass, jungle and hardcore breaks tunes by listening in on a friday night sometimes...showing my support to the dj's who i now class as friends. (No famous dj's i might add...just dj's who keep the oldskool scene alive).

Forever a part of me.

hahah -- i used to be a big clubber , and spent many a friday night in the limelight , or Shine -- both in belfast.
Me and a mate introduced early dance music like orbital " chime " and bam bam " wheres your child " to our local clubs in our hometown.
I've seen many different forms of dance music come and go , but the one that endures for me to this day is Detroit techno ( the original techno , not this ravey crap ) that spawned people like dan curtin , luke slater , dave clarke , jeff mills etc........

i spent a long time tracking down such classics as Eon " infinity " , Juan Atkins " techno music " , blake baxter " when we used to play " , and detroit techno has had a huge influence on the music i make myself , although these days , i tend to listen to a genre called IDM / glitch which is really experimental and seeks new ground.

ha ha

I used to do the Tribals as well, I was 17 in 92 when I went first to see eat static in Brixton and never looked back.

Manchester was the initial fascination with Megadog, The Herbal Tea Parties, Acid Rock, and Havok.. Before long it was Welsh Parties, Voodoo at Le Bateau and The Orbit in Leeds.

I'm not ashamed to be part of the 'E' generation either, it was such good fun and I'm glad I was doing it all at that time.

Still passionate about music, just a little more lazy ha ha

I'm going to an oldskool party tonight in Cardiff bay as it goes. Never knew about it until earlier when my neighbour dropped the flyer round for me to check it out.

Dirty Knees presents... The Resurrection.

Ramos + Marley (origonal old skool: 92./93 hardcore set)

Faydz + Brookzy (showcase set)

Trix + 3flow (jungle rhythms)

Ok.. I've never heard of half of these but then again I wouldn't have heard of myself either! (Too underground to be commercialising it up at big clubs).

Ellis Dee will be at the next one and will be dropping off my old skool demo see if I can jump on the oldskool goings on down the bay here.

Yeah did the rave thing back in my early twenties(although not the illegal rave thing playing techno with people dancing in gas masks and all that!!)

Mainly just house and hard house music.......................seen a lot of top DJ's....................Paul Oakenfold,Carl Cox,Judge Jules,Danny Tenaglia,Lisa Lashes,Roger Sanchez,Fergie,Morales etc,

Attended loads of top nights out, with music pumping, packed nighclubs with sweat dripping down the walls, everyone enjoying giant, good feel, amazing parties ...........................oh the memories, the comradery, dancing about and not really giving a fcuk, completely letting go of inhibitions, its a wonderful thing!

used to go to the same place nearly every week, everyone knew each other and it was the safest, greatest place to be for a few years, until i got a bit bored of it all!

Happy dayz!

I am still raving and have been off and on since I was 16. I love the music I can't decirbe how it makes me feel. I have been to my fair share of raves in Toronto and buffalo and Pittsburgh. I will never give up this music I love it all....I started out listening to Dj Ellis Dee and now have a ton of fave Dj's from Toronto like Capital J, Dominik, Lady bass, Dr trance, Freaky flow, Marty Mc fly, Unibomber, Paladin, Virus, D-minus, Frisky, Anabolic Frolic, Dragon fly just to name a few off the top of my head. There are more tho.

I have also met alot of Dj's from all over and have a Canadian Flag signed by them as well as Cd's I have bought and had signed.

I am VERY proud to say I am a RAVER.

Yes. But not a full time "raver" as I had a career. Last "Rave" I went to was in East Grinstead the night Diana died - so a good while ago ! Afterwards, heading back to London in the early hours of the morning the news broke- very surreal. Later in the day/early evening I went London - Reading and saw the coffin going into cenrtral London after being flown in from Paris.

There are many places catering for older clubbers if you want to go and ofc at the big events. It is a very occassional rather than a regular pleasure but there is plenty on the net (not quite the same - lol)

Personally, I tend to dip into a wide range of stuff but was never into mainstream drum and base, MCing and a lot of the uninteresting copycat type stuff you can hear in places with a crap resident DJ that is catering for a younger market or doing the usual trying to learn their trade and make it big...

I did then and I do now, mix my music up a lot.

I love the stuff DJ Tiesto does and that is pretty much right up my street now.

I have not gone to a rave for 15+ yrs. I detest the music, and would rather stick pins in my eyes (would please many) than go to a rave now.

Also I would like to take this opportunity to apologize for any ones pills I taxed, I have realized the error of my ways and am a really nice person now
