Ok I'm a Leeds United fan

and before I go on, NO INSULTIN OR BAD MOUTHIN COMMETNS PLEASE!

We at LUFC are in a desperate position here, What do you fellow p.o.f. members think needs to be done to change things at the club for the better?

Personally, I think they need to ditch Ken Bates and his board, closely followed by ditching Dennis Wise, and all the other former chelsea people!

Once this is done, bring in a manager who knows what he's actually doing!, same with the coaching staff, and also make sure he's a manager who can attract some half decent players, 1s who will be loyal to the cause, put in maximum effort at all times, and help bring back the name of Leeds United to the division this great club belongs in, the Premiership!

The new manager will be backed by a new owner, chairman, and board, 1 whos got the money to heavily invest in our club, 1 who has the club at heart, who will back the manager with cash to bring in the right players, at the right price, with the right sized contracts!

Is all this 2 much 2 ask?

Interesting one.

The stick Leeds fans were getting, quadrupled after Bates shenanigans in May 07. It looked like he had manipulated the club into going into administration for an hour so they could buy it on the cheap, make a mockery of the 10 point deduction and write off 99% of the club's debt.

Bates and Wise at Leeds is the footballing equivalent of Osama Bin Laden winning the US Presidential election. Bates should be ditched based on my earlier points. As for Wise, he did well at Millwall and may possibly achieve something at Leeds. Bringing in a manager who knows what he is doing is simpler said than done. I think you need to appoint a short-term boss with a specific task of getting you out of League one.

Players wise you will need to be very shrewd as you cannot afford to throw money at the playing squad, and have them not perform (i.e. Bradford).

There is an assumption that Leeds will go up, which makes them fairly attractive for investment, but the longer you stay in L1 the more this will diminish.

It is a huge amout to ask for a new chairman to give buckets of money to a new manager, as there are 72 clubs in the football league asking for the same thing and it was that that got you in the predicament you are in now.

as a Liverpool fan I want you boys back in the Premiership as soon as possible, miss those trips to Leeds as it's a good place for a drink and the locals are friendly enough to Scousers. We want big clubs in the top flight not the likes of Wigan etc (no rudeness etc meant) I think you need to sack Wise and get a manager more akin to dealing qith no money and players at that level.

Is that down to bigger clubs having history, or is it just that Leeds is a better away day?

biger clubs have more fans which equals more noise and more of an atmosphere, with no disrespect to smaller clubs they are never really going to get crowds of 40,000 plus no matter what they do or win. Liverpool, Leeds,Arsenal,Spurs etc all have the history and the fanbase, clubs like again Wigan, ,Blackburn Ipswich Norwich etc are never going to get in xcess of 35,000 every home game. Was made up when Man City came back to the top division for that reason

I prefer to go to the grounds that are full and noisy etc as they are better away days in general. In the same way I love the FA Cup away games at some of the smaller grounds as they have a different atmosphere for the one off game.

The title is the big one and the games should be at the biggest grounds with the biggest teams in my opinion. All being said I have supported a footballing giant all my life so it's asy for me to say. I still think that there is room for teams who have proved their worth to get to the top flight

Sometimes.

The problem is, that you can get a significant number of "day trippers" are there to enjoy the day out who don't add to the atmosphere.

Then you get the problem of the deserters. Leeds attendances are half what they were when they were in the Prem and will probably drop a bit more in League 1.

thread composer, i cant see the point in bad mouthing Ken Bates, Dennis Wise or any other ex Chelsea person. Leeds Utd are in trouble due to years of mis-management in both football management and money management.

if i was a Leeds fan i would take heart from what Ken Bates is trying to do to save the club.

being a Birmingham City fan, i know how hard it is. when a club you love slides down the leagues and gets into money troubles. this happened to Birmingham City during the early to late 80's.

we had 3 wise men and the first female in football, we was saved from the brink. im sure that Leeds will do the same, but it may take time.

going through this type of thing, were there was rumours your club stadium could be turned into a supermarket or a car show room is not nice.

this makes a fan, this is what real fans go through. its great people support a side where they were born. thread composer keep the faith, just look at what Birmingham City did.

Well we were similar other than the fact that we were never high enough to slide. We have just languished around in the lowere leagues for 60 years or so. I did every league game last season despite us finishing bottom and only winning 8 out of 46 games

OP.
Just hang in there and keep supporting and if you really hate bates that much, the worst thing you can do is stop attending matches. Turn up and make sure he knows he isn't wanted.

noisest clubs in the UK are Portsmouth, Birmingham City and Southampton. all these clubs are proved to have a better atmosphere, fact. fan base? well all these clubs have a large fanbase, but do not have the cash or planning to build massive stadiums.

pedro 1976 If you think Leeds have a bad press, have a little look at my club Millwall!

On the subject of Leeds, please dont assume they will go straight back up this season. Forest probably assumed the same. Do yourself a favour. ditch Wise. I was interested to read in the post by the Birmingham fan that he had done well at Millwall! Really? He took us to a cup final. Wrong! The gods took us to the cup final. Our route was easy. The only difficult one was sunderland and we beat them. When we got to the cup final the tactics were embarrassing. Look we were playing United. We didnt expect to win, but to play just one up front and have your best attacking midfielder- Cahill - playing so deep was crap! The sight of Wise grabbing shirts and diving around was terrible We were also in a great position to go up. Wise blew it! Get shot of the little shit!

I feel a bit sorry for Leeds. Like ourselves they are universally hated, so the piss taking they are taking must be horrendous. I know. I am in that hell! The difference between ourselves and them is obviously the size of the club. I really cant see Leeds ever coming back to be honest. sorry I cant see it any other way. Its the pessimist in me!

I'm a Sheff Wednesday & although the temptation is there to really take the piss out of the plight of Leeds, I don't think it is any laughing matter.

I have to agree with the OP's comments regarding removing Ken Bates from the club completely. He drove Leeds further down than they already were & purely to de-value the club further still to get it completely on the cheap.

Any Leeds fan should be under no illusion that their season is going to be a tough one especially if they fail to overturn the decision to deduct the team 15 points.....

I have to breathe a huge sigh of relief that when Bates was sniffing around Hillsborough & causing unrest at the club that we didn't bow down to the minority who believed the £10 million would be a good option, we would inevitably have ended up in the same position as Leeds now have.

It would be better to see Leeds back in the big time on a lot more good fronts than bad, they were a team that gave the real 'big boys' a run for their money for a while not just because of the cash that was invested but because there still remained a passion for pulling on the Leeds shirt. A lot of the problems they are experiencing now is purely down to unscrupulous players & money men that won't allow the club room to operate on a level that they need to & are still taking huge wages out of the place. Its a sad set of circumstances & a fair proportion of Leeds fans have already voted with their feet but then who can blame them with the over inflated season ticket prices they have been forced to pay since Bates took the helm.

As a traditionalist, I want 2 see Leeds back in the top division along with Nottm Forest, and Sheff Wed, big clubs that have fallen on hard times and whose fans deserve better than the dross they have seen. When you consider that some clubs have cheated, broken rules and got away with it (Hello, West Ham) it isn't fair that Leeds were screwed by the actions of a few people, something which could affect the future of the club.
In any event it's ridiculous that the Football League should be penalising clubs for administration such as Wrexham and Rotherham when the fact they were in dire straits in the first place was due to the Football League's disastrous little flirtation with ITV back in the late 90's, profit over the supporters every time. The Football League, Premier League and FA are all an utter shower in my view.

some interesting replies here guys

couple of things to iron out

firstly, our attendances and atmosphere:

we've got more fans this season than last season coming to games coz the ticket prices have come down a little bit this season. Last season we struggled to get over 20k per home league game, this season we've had over 20k almost every home league game, we've even gotten over 30k, and we've also beaten man citys previous record for a lower league attendance, theirs was 30'475, leeds had 30'501 against huddersfield town. Some teams in the prem dont even get 30k.

In terms of atmosphere, this is a fact, leeds uniteds fans are awesome, ive been to some games this season, despite not having much money, and have done in previous seasons aswell, and the fans are ALWAYS singing, theres hardly ever a quiet moment at elland road, we went 1-0 down against southend united this season and 10 seconds after they scored, the leeds fans carried on singing for the team, leeds won 4-1 in the end lol. It was recently discovered that manchester united and liverpool were critisized for a major lack of atmosphere in their grounds, and yet with the titles those 2 teams have won, you'd think they'd have plenty to sing about. I've watched match of the day on numourus occasions and i have to agree about pompey, their fans seem very passionate in the games, those other teams mentioned i wouldn't know, i can only put my thumbs up for leeds uniteds fans, even at away games when i listen to the games on radio, the few hundred leeds fans that are allowed by the other teams to go to away games, you can hear them singin over the few thousand home fans, i think this just proves how much leeds united fans love leeds united football club

secondly, keeping the faith:

i always will, i believed right up until the the admin farce that we wud survive last season, ive supported the club since i knew wot football was, and i will 4ever support leeds united, even if i can't always afford to go to the games

3rdly, the staff:

bates did have a cheap attempt at gettin sheff.wed. before leeds united and so that was 1 reason i thought his heart wasnt in it when he got us just as cheaply. he dunt attend many games, but duz seem to hold a firm stance when makin his points to the press. still dont like him tho if im honest. wise had a ridiculusly easy cup run with only 1 prem team faced, that being man utd in the final, that dunt make wise a gud manager, he has since not done much with swindon, and so now he's at leeds, it didnt inspire me with a loada confidence. im not sure on a couple of his signings and his long ball style he's had the team playin this season has been nothing short of diabolical. he's done well to get us in the playoffs half way thru the season with a massive 15points taken from us, we wud b clearly at the top if we had them points back. i just hope that his signings finish the job theyve half completed and get us back into the championship, and maybe even higher

just out of interest, who do you think should be the 20 teams in the prem, based on history, fanbase and just general size of the club itself?

keep the posts coming in, good stuff so far people :)

im an arsenal fan and it sadens me to see leeds in the position they are in. leeds is a club that needs to be in the premiership. the blame for them not being in the premiership lies at o'leary (my babies) and ribbesdales feet for what they did to leeds and suffer no concequinces is shoking. hope leeds are back in the premiership soon.

I think LU will bounce back but only if they have the money. I think they should get sorted with a new stadium as it's needed and it's a bit of a trend these days. Saying that, a new staduim is last thing on the list I think. They'll bounce back...:)

I don't really follow the English football too closely. Can you guys explain how Leeds went from one of the top teams in England to where they are now?! Aside from the general "they were mismanaged" response, what exactly happened??

Did they sign players for too much money and ended up fighting bankruptcy or what?

Am not an expert on who's won what, but you'd be surprised what some teams have won over the years who're now playing in the lower leagues. Look at Sunderland, they've won the championship 6 times, think the FA Cup twice, also teams like Burnley, Blackpool and Ipswich Town have won quite a bit down the years.

In the top 20, I think half of that top 20 are playing in the Premier League now so the other 10, not sure (I know Middlesbrough won't be in it that's for sure!)...:)

msg 19..Thats basicly what happend at Leeds United..It wasnt that they signed players for
millions of pounds far from it but it was the wages every week which they paid them..
you cant really blame the players for wanting a good salary but it very nearly finished the club..

Its a great shame to see both Leeds and Nottingham Forest in the third tier of English football...

wasnt a chunk of the financial struggles down to them banking on CL funds then being knocked out on the first round??

mis managed, chickens before they have hatched and all that... end off.

I'm sure, if you want him G&H will let you have Kewel back at a fraction of the price we paid for him.... please.. go on, go ask... lol

As for Wigan, whats wrong with them and the JJB???? north west team, should be almost backing them at least.....

Yippy made an excellent point. The Titans of the EPL are multi million dollar juggernauts that would rival our Dallas Cowboys in net worth. Teams such as Wigan are destined to relegation.
One of the problems we have in America with the US National team is now MLS clubs are refusing to release ? transfer top players who dream of playing European football stranding them in MLS till they have met the obligation of their contract. They just don't understand that in the long run this strengthens our National squad. Here in Houston they are building a football venue for the Dynamo that will seat between 30 & 40 thousand. Very small in comparison to the stadiums that are the norm in the EPL. In the end it is all about the almighty dollar.

so now Leeds United deserve to be in the Premiership just because they have a better fan base or more fans? and teams like Wigan or Derby County do not deserve?

Please! if Wigan and Derby are playing in the Premiership is because they are BETTER than Leeds United, so they do deserve the place they now have (even if at the end they get relegated)
