| Why do you have sex?
Posted: 8/3/2007 12:13:23 PM | Recently, researchers at the University of Texas did a study asking people why they had sex. After asking over 2000 people, they were able to catogize a list of 237 common reasons. Some stand-outs:
- I had a headache, thought it would make it go away (you know, I have a headache right now....any takers?)
- Someone dared me (c'mon...someone dare me...I DARE you to!)
- I wanted to cahnge the subject (what subject is so boring that this is the only logical exit?)
- I was attraced to the person (duh!)
- The opportunity presented itself (more common answer for men...anyone surprised?)
- I was afraid my parter would have an affair if I didn't (How many people out there had an affair because their husband/wife didn't?)
So now I throw this out to the wonderful people of POF. Let's see what kind of reasons we've had for having sex (this should be good!)

(It was his wife's sister) I got into the car, gave her a hug, she looked me in the eye and said... "I'm not going home till I get what I want." That was a good enough reason for me.. at the time! Of course many years later, I have YET to have that happen to me again, and things were a lot simpler back then, too! | |

Also, an orgasm truly does get rid of a headache....every single time. Luckily, it doesn't have to be while with another person. So I'm not reduced to approaching strangers on the street and begging for sex. | |

If a human being is personally healthy (on all the levels of being human), then sex is normal and natural and fun. It only gets weird when it involves a person with hang-ups; these usually take the form of selfish motives, need for control, lack of respect, personal inhibition, social stigmas, substance issues, or general inexperience. For me, and for any healthy person, sex is a way to explore sensuality, express feelings to another person, or even just to release tension. The fact that it feels good (or should - get a clue if it doesn't, and don't fake!) and is usually pretty fun serves to motivate me! | |

However, you learn a lot about yourself in the meantime, your boundaries, how you relate to people..ect. But Sex is something innate in us, it's primal, I mean pair bonding through sex is why we kinda rule the animal kingdom, we have as a result learned to pass knowledge to our children as a result of staying with one mate (once we have children) longer then what would normally occur in the animal kingdom as a result of building sexual relationships for pleasure that keep us attached. What I am saying is that I think sex is a built in survival of the fittest kinda thing. But in this world where it's more apparent that we don't need to stay together I think sex is coming to the for front of our collective social conscience cause we inherently know our world is peaking culturally as we know it, so it's kinda a get it while the gettings good kinda thing, think Pompeii...the Romans where never More sexually promiscuous as in the end of their civilization. | |

Of course, I've not been one to study for the "have sex" in recent months ...other than the desire for the right opportunity presented in accord w/ the opportunity presenting itself in conjunction w/a still-open-to-love-of-others'-hearts-and-minds. As I have grown older and hopefully the wiser, I'm ISO this ...and it's far more difficult as there are many older and wiser women who've learned what they have via their own hard life lessons. Nothing finer than sex w/ someone who genuinely respects these differences and trusts that they have finally "reached sure" w/ someone who has so much more to offer them than their own opinions and what may change daily for which way the wind might be blowing. | |

For me, it's because I wish to be close, intimate, and also arouse the man I am wishing to have sex or make love with. Procreation won't happen, is the last thing I think of, and I don't need to carry on the family line.
Also, because of a myriad of kinks I have, it's nice to have someone (when there is someone) to explore those openly with, and safely with abandon (is that possible? lol)
I think our bodies were made in a most wonderful way, meant to feel all of these incredible sensations and feelings, and all the delicious thoughts that go along with it. Why not put it to the test, explore, love, and share those with your s/o? Why not help to make someone else feel so good? We were made to fit together in a most sensual, carnal way, not just to have children, but to pleasure one another and love doing it.
It's why there are so many feelings...passion, lust, love, inquistiveness, laughter (yes, laughter), tenderness, power, rawness, roughness, a sense of prowess and virility, not to mention how beautiful you can feel when it's done with the right person, in a most magnificent way.
