You could also make Baba Ghanoush... A lot of the dishes are hard to make. You could make Mana'eesh.. That shouldn't be though. You would need to buy Zaatar and make the dough and then add the Zaatar to the oven. I have never made it, just seen my father make it many times, and I am sure I could make it from memory.

| Lebanese foods Posted: 8/4/2007 11:21:21 PM | depends on what meal you want, and what you're looking for. I've been to a restaurant where humus is actually a dinner plate you can get..... over there its just a side dip.
What are you in the mood for?
Note that most full dishes take time, not necessarily the most effort each time, but they do take time.
Breakfast foods are quick...like manakeesh (which in levantine dialects like syrian and lebanese and jordanian is pronounced mana'eesh like seavoyage mentioned).
I can cook about everything my grandmother made for me, she's syrian- being that they used to be 1 country before the french came, and are pretty alike I can cook anything lebanese you may like. --- just reply with what you want, something w/ lots of vegies, something meaty, something w/ both...w/e

| Lebanese foods Posted: 8/5/2007 12:30:00 AM | Tabouleh is a challenge to make, not because it has a lot of ingredients, but because it's just a WHOLE lot of chopping.
Almost all of Lebanese cooking is highly labor-intensive. Things like stuffed grapeleaves, or kibbeh araas (which is bulghur and ground lamb molded into a ball, stuffed with ground beef, onions, and pine nuts, and then deep fried- my friends call them 'meat eggs') are traditionally made when a lot of women get together, smoke cigarettes and drink strong coffee, and churn out the most amazing food. It's hard to do it on your own.
I'd say a good, easy way to start would be with a barbecue. Kaftah is ground beef, onions, Italian parsley, and spices mixed and then molded around skewers and grilled. Serve it with pita, hummous, and grilled tomatoes. You can also marinate chicken breast in mayonaise with garlic, dry ginger, white pepper and salt, then grill it. I can't believe I don't remember what it's called, but it's to die for. If you're feeling really brave, you can make a garlic mayonaise for dipping- It's just fresh garlic and a little salt and lemon in the blender, and then you sooo slowly add vegetable oil until it becomes white and soft and fluffy and not strong. Some people add a little boiled potato to cut down on the garlic.
Email me if you want. I can give you a bunch of recipes, I'm the queen of Lebanese for Dummies. :)
