| Suggestion: Northern ireland forum? Posted: 8/5/2007 7:20:09 AM | last time i looked Northern Ireland came under the UK... and we have are own forum hun. although if you shout for a forum for Southern Ireland (Eire) then that is different.... IMO anyhow | |

| Suggestion: Northern ireland forum? Posted: 8/5/2007 8:00:05 AM | The UK is indeed the United Kingdom of Great Britain & Northern Ireland.
The UK local forum has the Flag of the Union on the forum welcome page, and a 'little reminder' to non-UK citizens thus:
"Not a resident of the UK? Post in your own local forum or global forums, "locals" are exclusive to those residing in their regions"
Southern Ireland, ie The Republic of Ireland attained independence from the UK in 1922, therefore presumably Irish citizens should only post in the global forums as per Guidelines.
Northern Ireland is part of the UK therefore a separate thread or section seems unnecessary.

| Suggestion: Northern ireland forum? Posted: 8/5/2007 9:26:59 AM | So lets have a new forum for Northern Ireland then one for Scotland , well lets have one for England whilst where at it, and then one for Wales and then the only place people of Northern Ireland/ Scotland/England or Wales can debate/discuss with are people from their own local forums unless they travel into the global forums and then they can discuss what they normally discuss in the UK forums. Its the most preposterous idea i,ve seen in a long time on these forums
Oh and then a sub thread for each county.
perhaps a sub thread for each county here would be a good idea?
I might ask if we can have a sub forum each for West Yorkshire, East,North and South.

That would be unnecessary as you can legitimately post in the UK forum.
The Republic of Ireland should be given their own forum as people living there are not allowed to post in the UK forum and are restricted to the global forums.

Why are people ( Eire ) "not allowed" to post in the UK forums and why are they restricted from global?
Quite curious....maybe a mod can answer this one for me.

Suggests that non-locals post on the global forums, with an exception that they can only post on event threads in local forums if they plan on attending an event.
To 'include' the Republic of Ireland (Eire) as part the UK seems the equivalent of including Mexico or Cuba as part of the USA, or Alaska as part of Canada.
Northern Ireland is most certainly part of the UK ....although whether the good folk of Yorkshire wish to tow their county off into the North Sea to form their own Republic is a different question altogether!
Let my Granny in Scarborough know though before anything drastic is done...could ruin her back garden!!

| Suggestion: Northern ireland forum? Posted: 8/6/2007 2:38:20 PM | Where have to seen this?
After having been told by another member that one of my post was off topic and possibly in breach of forum rules (I can’t find a link for it so I am assuming that the thread was deleted) I started to re-read the rules and in particular ‘relaxed discussion’ threads as found here:
http://forums.plentyoffish.com/datingPosts1345738.aspx
This states:
SOME "Relaxed Conversation Threads": - are allowed, within reason, these are for the exclusive use of the users local to the forum, this is not new, this is existing policy, and it is site-wide.
Forums where this "leeway" is abused will lose the "leeway".
The POF forums are not a chat room, nor will we tolerate those who will frequent other locals in order to use this site's local forums as a de facto chat room.
Stick to your own region's word games and "relaxed" discussion threads.
I was searching for further information, which brought me to this:
http://forums.plentyoffish.com/datingPosts5701828.aspx
Msg 1 asks:
im just wondering why people who arent "local" have been asked to leave the "local" forums?
I hadn’t been aware that people were being asked to leave if they were non-locals, but as I am aware that a number of non-UK members post in the UK forum I continued to read Late’s answer.
Msg 2 states:
Complaints from local forum users have made it a necessity to clamp down on "road trippers" in the "Word Games" and "Relaxed Discussion" (non Event oriented) threads.
I took this to mean that non-locals, in this case non-UK residences should not post in the UK forum if it is “Relaxed Discussion” which the majority of UK threads are.
Msg 2 went on to say:
Local forums primary purpose is to plan and post Singles Events, some general topic threads are allowed, but for non-locals similar topics are also found on the global forums., arranged by topic. Non locals can and often do disrupt local forums, bumping threads that may not reflect local interest to the same degree had they not posted. Exceptions are made for those attending local events, as long as they stay on-topic within the event thread.
I understand that to mean that unless a non-local is posting in reference to a singles event then they should post in the global forums not the UK forum.
The Republic of Ireland is not part of the UK (a bit like Cuba isn’t part of the US even though they are in close proximity) and as such a member living in Ireland would not qualify for posting in the UK forum.
Have I misinterpreted Late? Are non-locals allowed to post in local forums in ‘relaxed discussion’ threads?

| All Irelands can post in the UK Forums !!! |
Its only a few hours Drive to a local Event on the Southern Side, possibly 2 from "Dundalk" to "Belfast".
Until a local Forum for the North & South Irelands exist, post in the UK Forums
(The original Intent was to have a Forum where all People who live in European English-Speaking Countries could post in one designed Local Forum.) |

typo sweetie.... it should read All of Ireland can post in the UK forums.........
ok now you can delete me
| [=The fine Use of Plurals when speaking of Countries .../Ticketoride] |
then all islands surrounding the UK?
| [=Official English Speaking Countries & Islands in Europe = Included/Ticketoride] |
Ireland is a country/isle
else England would be explained .... "all of Englands can ....."

| Suggestion: Northern ireland forum? Posted: 8/6/2007 3:42:26 PM | Kinda begs the question..why isn't Alaska in the Canada Forums?...'only a few hours drive' twixt USA Alaska and Canada.
60+million live on the British mainland and it's a lot more than a swift car journey to cross the sea to a foreign country which has been independent for nearly 100 years.
The UK local homepage (with the Union Flag not the Tricolour) states:
"Not a resident of the UK? Post in your own local forum or global forums, "locals" are exclusive to those residing in their regions" -----
Maybe time to rename the forum or homepage to avoid confusion?
|
| Suggestion: Northern ireland forum? Posted: 8/6/2007 3:45:25 PM | why isn't Alaska in the Canada Forums? Because its a USA State which has its own Local Forum: Alaska
As the Site expands, new local Forums will appear in due Time.
I agree, population-wise, Alaska isn't even close to either of the Irish Countries.
Maybe time to rename the forum or homepage to avoid confusion?
| Agreed, or better qualified. |

| Suggestion: Northern ireland forum? Posted: 8/26/2007 3:32:22 PM | there isn't sufficient traffic yet as Admin sees it, to have a separate forum for Northern or Southern (Republic of) Ireland. If he were to splinter it, it might look like the District of Columbia forum.
For the time being, all of the UK and the Republic of Ireland, can post in the UK Forum.
|
| Suggestion: Northern ireland forum? Posted: 2/11/2008 9:05:50 AM | Probably would be a good idea then to rename the Forum as Ireland and UK Forum or UK and Ireland Forum (note - not the British Isles as Ireland is not part of the British Empire).
This would encourage more Irish to join in and say hello.
Would be much easier to do a name change and put up a new forum
Just my €0.02c lol

So lets have a new forum for Northern Ireland then one for Scotland , well lets have one for England whilst where at it, and then one for Wales ......
What would be wrong with that ? Isint the idea of these whole forums so that people can discuss topics of local/regional relevence with people who live fairly near them (or have some connection to/interest in the area) ?
