| ESPN and Nascar coverage Posted: 8/11/2007 11:44:56 AM | I don`t know about some of my fellow Nascar fans but I find that ESPN Nascar coverage sucks the announcers are boring other than Rusty ESPN has a woody for JPM all they seem to talk about even during the race when his back in the pack they just can`t stop talking JPM. I would prefer watching nascar on FOX or TNT or even NBC. These old farts on ESPN should retire for nascar coverage anyways. I hope FOX gets more coverage next year kind of stuck with ESPN for now thank god I have DTV hotpass so I don`t have to listen to ESPN all the time. | |

| ESPN and Nascar coverage Posted: 8/11/2007 3:43:44 PM | I read in the paper last week that the viewer #s are down during coverage on ESPN compared to last year's coverage of the same races.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't other sport viewers have a problem with ESPN,too?

| ESPN and Nascar coverage Posted: 8/11/2007 3:46:25 PM | PART TWO:
Am I the only one that thinks sportscaster wearing suit to do coverage on tv is insane?
It makes no sense to me. The same with coaches, but I digress. lol
|
| ESPN and Nascar coverage Posted: 8/11/2007 6:13:29 PM | I so agree, ESPN bores me to tears, and the more I listen to Rusty the more I dislike him.............plus all they do is dig up dirt and try to keep conflict between drivers going on and on and on.......ESPN must be kin to the Energizer Bunny | |

| ESPN and Nascar coverage Posted: 8/11/2007 10:32:10 PM | I really like Dr.Punch in motorsports as a braodcaster,Andy i like, but as a owner, cant understand what he says half the time. When Rusty speaks,I mute the TV,he was great for the IRL,then again i never watch those races, maybe thats why I think he did a greast job there-lol.That old guy hanging around the car makes me think of the NFL broadcasters, and that sidekick dude in the studio trailer should be in the NBA booth.Bestwick just sucks, dont no anyone who likes watching his style of broadcasting.
As far as the numbers being down,I thought most of that was due to not as many households having ESPN in the States, compaired to the other networks that have showed those races in the past.
Show the races on NBC,CBS,ABC and Fox,that way I can watch all the races live up here in Canada,I get tired of watching races on tape delay on TSN.(Canada's version of espn)

| ESPN and Nascar coverage Posted: 8/12/2007 12:42:25 AM | NASCAR's ratings are down because after maybe 10 years of all the races being on TV, it's overkill. You have NEXTEL and Busch and the Truck series. Add in the open wheel races. Simple supply and demand. Eventually the greed that envelopes NASCAR was bound to kill the goose with the golden eggs. They took races away from successful tracks. They increased Corporate Sponsorship costs. The pageantry before every race is like they are trying to mimic a Super Bowl every week. The real points chase starts right when the NFL starts... right when everybody turns off NASCAR for the NFL. So now they have an "exhibition season" and we watch it when it is raining outside because we know that we won't bother following it once football starts. Every house in the US with Cable or Dish has ESPN in the States by the way. Maybe the answer is to start the season in August and have a 'split' season where Daytona a week after the Super Bowl starts the 'playoffs' with the top points leaders. Just a thought... With only the NBA and the NHL to compete against... and by the time baseball starts I would think many would be hooked on the chase. | |

| ESPN and Nascar coverage Posted: 8/12/2007 9:08:35 AM | Actually the ratings have never been higher.
I haven't been able to watch much since ESPN took over from FOX as I don't have satellite.... but saw one at someone else's home and I too thought it sucked!
For me, the radio station that carries it here in Illinois is the best. If I could hear them commentate while I was at a race I'd enjoy it so much more.... they're colorful and direct. Just like it should be!!
Who's taking over when ESPN's time is up? How much longer do we have to endure this crap????
P.S. HEY Y AM!! Long time.....

| ESPN and Nascar coverage Posted: 8/12/2007 9:48:06 AM | Counting today`s race there`s four more to go on ESPN then it will switch to ABC I think we will have some of the same announcers on ABC because ESPN is part of ABC . We need announcers like BP , even DW is better than these guys on ESPN and that drafting thing they use what a joke that is reminded me of how they did the same thing with hockey years ago. I`m just glad I have hotpass . | |

| ESPN and Nascar coverage Posted: 8/12/2007 10:43:25 AM | Well here my 2 cents worth!!!!!
I'll take ESPN over FOX/NBC/TNT anyday. I find the coverage on ESPN in any sport out does the other networks tenfold. NBC/TNT-has a never will be driver in Dallenbach and a want to be announcer in Weber.Rest assure if BP was still with us he would've gone back to ESPN so we could've has Rusty and BP with DR. Jerry Punch.(What a crew that would've been)
FOX- Took the producers and directors from Espn when Nascar threw open the TV rights for the 2001 season. That is the only good thing Fox has going for them as the prime color man took up where he left off on the track. At the end of his driving career DW smelled the place up and got in everyones way.
Same people on ABC as ESPN
God Bless everyone

| ESPN and Nascar coverage Posted: 8/12/2007 1:40:45 PM | they can not let JPM back on the track!! he's been out of his car!!NO NO NO NO NO NO. i've gotten better coverage out of speed tv after their cameras were taken out by a tornado. honestly. oh well, take what we can get. espn has been around long enough that they should have this mastered especially with all the open wheel roadcourses they cover. at least they're not doing the pop up commercail thing...i hated that.
ps i'm with you on the radio coverage, Bullie.
|
| ESPN and Nascar coverage Posted: 8/12/2007 4:30:08 PM | What a race!! Smoke does it again!! Jr. will have to watch those high RPM's during his downshifting in the turns...He said that he probably killed the engine himself. Harvick almost got to duke it out with Juan but Truex was the cause of their accident!! | |
|
| ESPN and Nascar coverage Posted: 8/12/2007 4:39:28 PM | Nascar.com plays the whole race on the computer!! They are about a lap behind real time but it is better than nothing. Just go to nascar.com and lookk for the race on the home page and click on it. I don't get ESPN either so I watched it on the computer and listened to the radio for some of the commentary also. | |

| ESPN and Nascar coverage Posted: 7/27/2008 5:08:14 PM | For a farce of a race today(Brickyard 400 of 08)due to the great tire Goodyear brought. ESPN did alright. With Yellow flags on average every 16 laps why did we get commericals when we had green flag racing?
Big improvement getting Rusty out of the booth.Dale Jarrett does as great of a job on TV as his dad did years ago.Petree has made some improvement. There is no one better at Nascar play-by-play then DR.Jerry Punch
The Natiowide broadcast on Saturday night was great. ESPN needs to find a place for Randy La Joy(i don't think i spelled that right) other then when Nationwide cars are at another venue then Cup cars

| ESPN and Nascar coverage Posted: 7/27/2008 5:49:40 PM | | What happened to cutting up the screen during commercials? May have been annoying, but at least race coverage wasn't cut off completely! | |
|
| ESPN and Nascar coverage Posted: 7/27/2008 7:12:15 PM | don't know if it was my cable carrier or espn's transmission, but i had scattered frozen pixels often.
DB, the La Joi's are very busy designing and manufacturing safety equipment , it sure is nice to have the tact, knowledge, and eloquence of a Jarrett again.
