| has anyone tried the other online dating sites? Posted: 8/12/2007 7:50:20 PM | Has anyone tried other online dating websites? like match.com and lava life? Will you find more quality people who are more serious there?
I am not so sure about trying that, because i doubt there are enough people who actually paid service fee, I think most of the members aren't even able to send emails.

| has anyone try the other online dating sites? Posted: 8/12/2007 7:58:00 PM | One of my guy friends were on here at one point in time and he got SOOOO frustrated at the lack of QUALITY responses that he thought it would be better to go to a pay site. His thinking was that if someone is willing to pay for a dating site, they may be more serious about actually meeting and finding "the one." I can see his point, but I paid for Match.com once and got tired of people not responding to me. So why should I pay for rejection, especially when I found the same people from Match.com right on here? My friends frustration from POF was also that he sent out alot of messages and very rarely got anything back but "Read Deleted." I told him that it was the same no matter where you go. What I DIDN'T tell him, is that he's not getting quality responses cuz his standards were too high. He wasn't THAT great of a guy; he had an a-hole personality and not that great looking in his pics. The only thing he really had going for him was his stamina and big pee pee and unfortunately, Match.com and POF aren't sites you can post those type of pics. So I also directed him to AFF.com. LOL
Bottomline: It's all the same. But becuz this site is free and seems to cover more geography, there are more people to chose from, not that everyone is serious about meeting. Good luck in your search!
P.S. I also used to be on Lava Life, but only on their telephone dating site. But same results... same 'ol, same 'ol.

| has anyone try the other online dating sites? Posted: 8/12/2007 8:10:57 PM | hey treasure224
thanks for the post, thats exactly the info i was looking for. but i still want to hear other people's exeperience..
as for match.com, i think most of the people just sign up and never actually paid for the email feature, that includes me.
my experience on this site is that even the people at my age group are very picky. It is like 80% of the people only looking for 20% of the people. So certainly 60% of the people here gets very little result...
I m moving on... | |

| has anyone tried the other online dating sites? Posted: 8/12/2007 8:50:27 PM | I quit Match in disgust about a year and some month ago, after they made the change: not only you have to pay to send messages, not only to respond to them, but even to read them and to know who sent you one!
I'm not sure they make it clear to the paying members that those who do not pay cannot even read the messages. I found that dishonest. Will never go anywhere near that site again.
My only other experience was on Spanish-language websites. I'm not sure this is of interest to anyone, but if it is, I'll be happy to tell.

| has anyone tried the other online dating sites? Posted: 8/12/2007 9:07:35 PM | I've tried lavalife (March/06-January/07) and aff.com (November/06 only). I've been on here around June-July, last year, then again in December, and since July last year here.
I dont think I've found any better quality on any other dating site - and some people on aff.com are lurking around here from what I see.
Lavalife /dating-relationship -experience - will usually send a load of smileys around, if someone initiates a smiley to me first, or I send a smiley to a few people first and get a return smiley, then I'll send an email to follow up with it OR if I really connect with someone's profile and manage to write an inspiring email, then I may risk my credits.
Plentyoffish - it's free - just send emails out. I've always meet people on here where there was a genuine connection with no problem. The people I obviously dont meet are the ones who delete my messages, but hey, less time wasted then if we built up something online that went nowhere.
aff.com /lavalife-intimate - November only - classified X-Files. (Almost meet four people as result of the special project). A fifth person backed out of a scheduled meeting.
Match - com - have to pay to read emails and stuff - that's a bit shady, bet I got emails from admin or something and now I have to PAY to read those emails ... may try it later so I cant judge the site, if it's that good that you have to pay to read messages, then maybe it has something.

| has anyone tried the other online dating sites? Posted: 8/12/2007 9:09:46 PM | | Correction: I tried lavalife (March-May/06 - dating then, November/06 - intimate, and then again on December-January - dating again and have been lurking more around here in terms or recent activity rather than anywhere else. | |

| has anyone tried the other online dating sites? Posted: 8/13/2007 7:46:55 AM | I'm only on this one, I only got on here because I was looking for places to fish with plenty of fish and this popped up.
Nah, only kidding, but this site is the best one of them all. You don't have to pay!
I have been on Xmatch and priceless partner but don't like them much so now both profiles are hidden.
Xmatch is full of dirty perverts and I actually want someone who is not a filthy pervert!

| has anyone tried the other online dating sites? Posted: 8/13/2007 8:03:45 AM | yeah i have looked at them, so much for the FREE crap, ..free till you want to answer a mass produced email or reply to a ladies post.
POF is the only TRUE free site around
|
| has anyone tried the other online dating sites? Posted: 8/13/2007 8:18:56 AM | Not true. Ok cupid is entirely free, and there are a few more, uh, specialized sites that are free too.
Apparently POF is threatened by ok cupid, too, since they remove the name entirely from your post if you type it as one word.

| has anyone tried the other online dating sites? Posted: 8/13/2007 8:20:43 AM | | I have done trials on pay sites, (I haven't tried any other free ones yet) but none of them have the message boards that POF has, and I am not going to pay a monthly fee when I am not looking that hard to meet someone. Waste of money. | |

| has anyone tried the other online dating sites? Posted: 8/13/2007 10:41:48 AM | | I tried lavalife and I've met a lot more people on there than on here. But then again, I actively search on lavalife more, on here I use the forums more. I'm pretty sure if I were more active in searching on here I'd have better luck. | |
|
| has anyone tried the other online dating sites? Posted: 8/15/2007 10:35:15 AM | ALL pay sites are totally worthless in my opinion. Those people who are real get quickly tired of the fakes and believe me, money does not stop fakes. PLUS, it's no secret that admin will send out fake emails from time to time to keep you sucked in.
I've just started using a free site called connectingsingles and although it's not perfect, it's fun

| has anyone tried the other online dating sites? Posted: 8/15/2007 10:45:48 AM | | I've tried lavalife, date.ca and a couple others that I forget now. I have met some good people from lava, date and here. I don't know that the quality of people is any better or worse but I think the quality of POF is better than the rest of them. I like that I can meet someone and not have it cost an arm and a leg. I can read email without having to buy credits - what is the price of true love? Someone from date.ca is the one who told me about POF in the first place. I never actually met him but I'm glad I found POF. | |

| has anyone tried the other online dating sites? Posted: 8/15/2007 11:00:21 AM | Several years ago I was a member of Udate.com. I found it to be a very good site. Eventually I did get tired of paying for it but while I was a member I met three women in person as a result. One I dated for eight months. She and I were high matches on each others personality tests and it was amazingly accurate. We had great chemistry together.
So yes paid sites can be worth it. If I were to decide to pay again I would go back to Udate.com if they are still around. I am not sure to be honest. It has been a while. I was involved in a lot more instant messaging there whereas here it rarely happens. Maybe it is me!
Have a good day all! | |

| has anyone tried the other online dating sites? Posted: 8/15/2007 11:21:18 AM | | OP, over time I've tried match, cupid, and yahoo; most of the same people were on both, and there were the same serious and non-serious people on both sites. The more serious ones did pay for the services, but that doesn't necessarily mean any of them would be a perfect match. I met some nice people but not anyone I'd want as more than a friend, although my cousin (40) did meet his future wife (35) on there; they've been together 3 1/2 years and got engaged a few months ago with the wedding being planned for next year. | |

| has anyone tried the other online dating sites? Posted: 8/15/2007 11:21:19 AM | I tried a few others. ok cupid seems to be geared for the younger crowd, eharmony set me up with a match that was so off, I thought I took up residence on another planet. true and match were a waste of time. I can't speak for everyone, but here in SW Florida, the group of people I have met and/or chatted with are some of the nicest people I have met anywhere. friendly, fun, outgoing, the list goes on. I honestly can't wait to meet more and expect to have some great friends and hopefully find the great woman that has eluded me for 43 years. | |

Posted: 8/15/2007 12:49:25 PM | | met a couple gals from the major sites. they work. though it is still wierd when you actually meet. don't meet and touch someone you meet online unless you want that person in your life. either as a friend or more. that is to say. if you don't want to know they. do not exchange your personal information. or meet offline. but that is just me

| has anyone tried the other online dating sites? Posted: 8/15/2007 1:46:18 PM | | I've tried the big ones, tried free ones, paid for a couple. They're all pretty much the same. And you'll see basically the same core people on all of them from your area. | |

| has anyone tried the other online dating sites? Posted: 8/15/2007 1:54:57 PM | e harmony is a joke. I did the free two weeks trial, but you still have to give them your credit card info and they charge it just to get the free trial going, then if you're not happy they credit it back. By day three, I had received like 7 matches, all of whom were long distance. The one that was physically attractive to me, said ''no long distance'', the others were hideously ugly to me, and a few had no photos at all. So, I called to cancel the service and have my credit card credited. They practically begged me to stay. They explained new matches would be coming. Well, none came after a few more days and i called and cancelled. At that point they told me, that sometimes it takes months to find my ''true'' soulmate match. UHM...why??? Because he's not using their service yet? I think they may hold matches back, who knows? Seemed like a big scam to me.
I hated when match.com changed their payment policy. But when I was able to answer emails from men, I found most were just looking for sex anyways. So why pay? I can get that on free sites.

| has anyone tried the other online dating sites? Posted: 8/26/2007 6:31:42 PM | | There is a new site called club462.com. They have been beta-testing until now and go live Sep 1st. They look really awesome and offer something completely different from anything I have seen so far. | |

| has anyone tried the other online dating sites? Posted: 8/26/2007 10:37:28 PM | | I've been on POF for a while, little response and lots of rejection, so I just signed up for lavalife and so far get spam from Russian mail order brides and noone responding. | |

| has anyone tried the other online dating sites? Posted: 10/15/2007 10:55:46 PM | Hello,
Lately, I have invested some moneys into other dating sites with a great limited success (even in terms of being viewed).
I know some sites have an un-even ratio of men to women (5 men to every single lady) which I found some-what counter-productive considering I am male.
I don’t wish to continually strive to be within an 80 to 85 percentile margin of interest simply to be noticed – the work involved is already quite taxing.
I think a dating site should provide free allowance to women and charge men; this would in effect establish a functional equilibrium for me.
Does any-one know of a site which still operates as such?
My over-all plan is to promote my-self across the larger of dating sites and money is of no issue to me.
Thanks. | |
