Hmmmm.
Let's think about this, folks. First, observe this:
In the Mail Options elections page, the first selectable option is phrased as this:
Block users from making first contact that have messaged others for sex or intimate encounters
Based on the way this setting is phrased, it is difficult to accurately determine functionality of the block. The option uses the word "messaged". Is this e-mail or IM? Both? Difficult to know, because the the language is inprecise. Additionally, the statement uses the past tense "Block users... that have messaged".
Presuming that "messaged" indicates e-mail, selecting this option should block any user that meets the following criterion:
1. Has a current setting of "Intimate Encounter" in the I Am Looking for field in their own profile at the time they are sending the initial e-mail message to the user who has enabled the block.
2. Has sent e-mail messages to other users at a time when they had a setting of "Intimate Encounter" in the I Am Looking for field in their own profile.
3. Has sent messages to another user at a time when the "Intimate encounter" setting was enabled in that other user's profile.
These are the three conditions that would indicate that the user is, or was, actively looking for an intimate encounter. It's not just the current setting in a field, it is their history on the site. Any of these scenarios should trip a flag in their profile, and this flag should be examined to determineif they should be blocked.
I doubt very much if the site has been programmed to capture all of these scenarios. I'm pretty confident that, when the initial e-mail is being drafted, the software examines the setting in the profile for "Intimate Encounter", and makes a decision from there.
Therefore, the option in the Mail Options elections page should be rephrased to descrbe what I presume is the current functionality:
Block users from making first contact that have a current setting of "Intimate Encounter" in the I Am Looking for field in their profile.
