The Winner between Hawaii & Boise St. will go to a BCS Bowl.

| college football season 2007 Posted: 8/25/2007 1:42:44 PM | | thats one team that i feel is a big time sleeper team in the alabama crimson tide, i think they'll make a great run at the sec title. | |

| college football season 2007 Posted: 9/1/2007 10:29:58 PM | | man i tell you, i knew a loss was predictable and the irish are a young team this year but i was hoping for a better effort than that. i have to give my props to that g tech defense they came ready to play. and that running back of theirs, well....he's good. but as a fan i cant give up on them. there's still 11 games to play, cant start dwelling now. and app. state, where'd they come from, wow! | |
|
| college football season 2007 Posted: 9/1/2007 10:44:49 PM | | georgia tech is pretty good but i didn't think they'd give the dames a beat down like they did. as for app. st., 1-aa champion or not michigan should have beat that team by 30.......can you imagine those guys getting probably 300,000 to go to "the big house'" and then get the win on top of it. those people in boone, north carolina will party for days. | |
|
| college football season 2007 Posted: 9/2/2007 12:37:54 AM | | i agree the wolverines should have put a beating on app. state. no disrespect to them, but 1-aa schools don't usually produce the kind of teams that the division 1 teams do, which what makes this win special for them. nobody thought this would happen not even the app state fans. all i know is whoever put money on app state made a lot of money today and we'll probably never see an upset like this again. as far as the irish are concerned from my fan's point of view, i just hope they can turn things around and start playing better because they're schedule isn't getting any easier for the next month and a half. most of today was disaster but i saw some positives. nonetheless they've played one game, so now they're broken in. hopefully they can minimize their mistakes and protect that football. | |

not gonna say anymore, as I hate the irish, good to see them get drilled yesterday.....
tech was favored by 3 yesterday......eman is now $200 richer this morning because of it....
long season for the irish.....
|
| college football season 2007 Posted: 9/2/2007 7:38:47 AM | | i stand corrected. appalachian st. got 400,000 to go to the big house and take a beat down. the wolveines may wan their money back. | |

| college football season 2007 Posted: 9/2/2007 7:49:21 AM | | Yeah folks, there were some major embarrasment this week, LSU over Miss. St. 45-0, OMG, I watch this games with disbelief. N. Colorado loss to Hawaii 63-3, I care nothing for these two, but D*MN! Oklahoma 79, N. Texas 10, spanked that as*. Also, there was Penn State beating Florida Int. 59-0, embarrasing! I could really care less about Cinncinatti winning to S. Missouri St. 59-3, but man! Of course I will save the best for last, Alabama over W. Carolina 52-6, ROLL TIDE people !!!!!!! What the hell is a Catamount anyway? | |

| college football season 2007 Posted: 9/2/2007 8:17:20 AM | First of all gl with nd this year- gonna be a long season for yeah-absolutely decimated by grads,
won the proline pools-$288 lol
Nebraska is the team to beat this year, alongside California.

| college football season 2007 Posted: 9/2/2007 8:40:08 AM | Congratulations to Appalachian State and thanks, Mountaineers, for bringing a little sunshine into an otherwise not so uplifting Saturday!
Oh yeah, and coach Weiss: Let's stop pretending that 'this team is ready to win' and just come out with the plainly visible fact that this is indeed a rebuilding year. We are Notre Dame, we can handle the truth.

| college football season 2007 Posted: 9/2/2007 9:01:21 AM | Fun start to the season, for sure. Deejayehn is more than right about Appalachian State; they have won the last two 1-AA(or whatever it's called now) national championships. If they weren't such a small school, they could probably make a legitimate jump to D-I and make a bowl game fairly regularly. It's still a huge win over a Michigan team favored by some analysts to win the national title. For as great a team as USC is supposed to be, I found them 'under'-whelming in their opener against Idaho. I don't think it's that they aren't that great, but that they are somewhat 'going through the motions'. They better not get complacent, especially against a MUCH improved Nebraska team in a couple of weeks. Last year, Callahan (NU's coach) played to not get blown out. With the level of talent, speed and depth they have this year, and at HOME, he will be playing to win. Texas was totally unimpressive, too, but that is normal for them early in the season. The part I would be worried about, if I were them, is that they were outyarded by a truly weak opponent. They also allowed them the edge in time of possession. If a good team accomplishes those two stats, Texas will lose. | |
|
| college football season 2007 Posted: 9/2/2007 9:04:12 AM | How can you dis the irish like that?Breaks my heart! But hey you like the Bronco's so I guess there is not accounting for taste! | |
|
| college football season 2007 Posted: 9/2/2007 11:17:04 AM | Marshall used to be 1-AA a few years back... the Griz could never seem too beat them.
Now they have the same problem with App. State.
|
| college football season 2007 Posted: 9/2/2007 11:25:02 AM | | in what conference would appy st. make a bowl game if they were 1-a? the lowly acc? they'd get clocked 6 times a year. | |
|
| college football season 2007 Posted: 9/2/2007 12:59:43 PM | My hats off to Appalachian State. They went into the Big House a showed themselves to be a quality football team......no matter what division they play in!!
They are the exact type of team that has plagued Michigan for years.....and obviously still do. A team that spreads the field with a very agile, mobile QB.
This may have been the first time a ranked team has lost to a 1-AA school....but it will not be the last!! As more games are scheduled early in the season there will be other times that this happens too. Maybe not a Top 5 as Michigan was......but ranked teams will fall.
(But Michigan is ranked at 5 because of so-called experts selling magazines and hyping early season match ups. Rankings should be earned on the field and not given by name alone as they are. Why not have the rankings come out October 1?? Because of the multi million dollar preseason football magazine industry........but thats a whole 'nother arguement there!!)
You have to remember that those Top Division 1 players that get dismissed from teams they committed to go to Division 1-AA schools so they don't have to sit out a year and they can still play football . The NFL is full of Div 1-AA players. GOOD NFL PLAYERS! These are not players that play Division 1-AA because they are not good enough to play Div 1.
Once again......Appalachian State is a very good quality football team. They are not 2 time 1-AA National Champions by accident.
|
| college football season 2007 Posted: 9/2/2007 2:13:39 PM | Great points, Niteowl. The NFL is indeed chock full of 1-AA graduates. There are a plethora of reasons that athletes don't go to D-I programs, few of which have to do with a lack of talent.
"in what conference would appy st. make a bowl game if they were 1-a? the lowly acc? they'd get clocked 6 times a year."
Apparently, they could do it in the Big 10, since Michigan is supposed to be one of the elite in that conference. In all seriousness, App State could be very competitive in the WAC, the MAC, Conf USA, and all of those conferences had multiple bowl teams last year.

Granted Michigan had opportunities to win yesterday even with their clearly lackluster play (there' no excuse to have 2 blocked field goals in the final 2 minutes of play, or to allow a team to freely move down the field for a winning FG in the final minute and a half!), I think that the Appalchian State team that was on the field yesterday would give any conference in America a very good showing. I can't think of any of them that they couldn't beat the lower teams in, and like against UM, even pull the major upset or 2.

| college football season 2007 Posted: 9/2/2007 2:56:04 PM | | before this thread goes any further i want to give everyone a fair warning. there will be no team bashing on here or any show of disrespect. i dont care what happened yesterday nobody or their team deserves to be disrespected or bashed. i missed a couple of trashing threads but if it happens again i will see to it that the post is deleted. doesn't matter the team whether its michigan, nd, app state, usc, whoever. so play nice! | |

| college football season 2007 Posted: 9/2/2007 3:34:13 PM | congrats to app state...great win...
but filthy makes a point...
If app state had to play teams like michigan EVERY WEEK, how would they fare?....
boise state played OU tough and beat them last year, but I think if you put boise state in the big 12 they would just be another team.
Its a great win for ONE WEEK!!!!....just remember, app state doesnt have to play teams like ohio state, penn state, and the irish every week.
I agree they are a good team, but gimmie michigan to win that game probably 9 out of 10 times
|
| college football season 2007 Posted: 9/2/2007 5:42:52 PM | nonetheless even though app state upset michigan, they're still a force to be reckoned with. mike hart: 23 carries for 188 yards and 3 td's. and chad henne: 19 0f 37 on passing for 233 yards and 1 td and one pick. and the michigan receivers, well that says it all right there. so to all michigan fans it sucks i know, but michigan in my book is still a great team and a powerful force to reckon with. | |
