Well, fellow UK residents, what are your drinking habits when it comes to water?
Straight from the tap, filtered or bottled? Bottled water is a multi million pounds industry, is there a reason for it to be?

Of course there is. Marketing departments are very skilled at targeting stupid people.

| do you drink tap water? Posted: 8/29/2007 9:43:12 AM | I always have to smile when I see "best before end of August 2008" on bottles of water. I mean, its been running around for millions of years and now we've only got 12 months to drink it before it goes off?
What do they do to it? | |
|
| do you drink tap water? Posted: 8/29/2007 9:43:41 AM | I drink tap water.
Have you ever considered what Evian is, backwards? I really don't understand why people are so easily sucked into the latest fads - and that includes the 'I only drink bottled water' fashion.

| do you drink tap water? Posted: 8/29/2007 9:47:32 AM | I drink tap water - always have done and always will. I don't even filter it - seems pure enough for me once it's been in the fridge a while and I drink at least 6 litres of it a day which is why I'm always running to the loo | |
|
| do you drink tap water? Posted: 8/29/2007 9:48:49 AM | Tap water, bottled.
I do the bottling myself though, rather than pay Coco-Cola Schwepps a lot of money to do it for me.

You've got me there SJS....can I have another clue?
I drink tap water and bottled water...depends which area of the country I am in and my decision usually lies within the kettles of the area in question and the hideous amount of limesacle on the element within.

| do you drink tap water? Posted: 8/29/2007 9:54:22 AM | How do you get away with not appearing rude when offered a cup of tea, to which you reply..
"Can I have a look inside your kettle first, luv"

| do you drink tap water? But I have to say that one brand (Vittel) I actually do buy sometimes - tastes somehow "lighter" than any other water. Then I reuse those bottles. | |

yeah take the company who promotes peter andre for example
off topic sh*t yeah bottled/tap water for or against! tapped for me because bottled is a rip off, and i put enough impurities in my body at weekends with lashings of pints of beer to worry about the odd one or two toxins from the odd pint of tapwater in the week

| do you drink tap water? Posted: 8/29/2007 10:04:16 AM | I live within spitting distance of Buxton and its pure spa water, yet do we get Buxton water out of our taps??.. oh no. We get it from Stockport after its been syphoned through there from Buxton; through the water treatment works down the Corporation and has all manner of things done to it.. filtered through huge charcoal cylinders then has additives put into it, like flouride. It smells bleeding nasty when it comes out of the tap - like bleach almost!.. so no, I don't drink cold tap water - I always buy Buxton fizziated stuff. | |

| do you drink tap water? Posted: 8/29/2007 10:08:39 AM | A few years ago no , because UK tap water contained a bug cripto sporidium which would give you the runs, now yes, but not water on its own , feel a tad childish but I have water with cordial.
But not in London , when I lived there the water was so incredibly hard it'd take a whole bar of soap just to get a tiny bit of foam for a morning shave and that water has been through the kidneys of 14 people too to boot!. (London water still gives me the runs)
EDIT you live near buxton? , hmm hows about a cuppa next time me and my riders pop that way? , (end of the Cat N fiddle)

| do you drink tap water? Posted: 8/29/2007 10:14:22 AM | | Nearly always, unless out on the road. The controls surrounding public drinking water are very tight, it is safe enough. Ours is quite soft water too, comes from the Lake District into Manchester. I can imagine there are parts of the country where bottled water is better, the sort of areas where you have to buy a new washing machine each year due to the hardness. | |

| do you drink tap water? Posted: 8/29/2007 10:14:51 AM | I always drink tap water though i do bottle it and put it in the fridge as its never really cold enough just out of the tap and i like it really cold. I usually have a bottle of water in my bag as i'm trying to drink more water, dont drink enough, but it is tap water that i have bottled myself. I think bottled water is a total rip off. | |
|
| do you drink tap water? Posted: 8/29/2007 10:19:16 AM | | Always tap water. Bottled water is the biggest con ever, and the amount of waste created with all those plastic bottles in unimaginable. | |
|
| do you drink tap water? Posted: 8/29/2007 10:34:32 AM | | Always have drank straight from the tap but I find some areas taste better than others, still drink it though. I think the use before date is on the plastic bottled water because of the plastic. I'm sure but not certain that it eventually gives off nasty chemicals. | |
|
| do you drink tap water? Posted: 8/29/2007 10:39:29 AM | | I never drink water from a tap , the only time I ever drink water is from a bottle when I go to the gym...Other than that it has to be boiling and have coffee in it.. | |
|
| do you drink tap water? Posted: 8/29/2007 10:43:28 AM | All I drink is water... So im like a wine expert ...... I can tell the difference between bottled..(different brands) and tap water from different areas... * sad cow!* I know!
I drink bottled water if in Worcester.... (horrid stuff!) Now brummy water......... *lovely!!!!* drink gallons of the stuff....
<div class="quote">I drink tap water and bottled water...depends which area of the country I am in and my decision usually lies within the kettles of the area in question and the hideous amount of limesacle on the element within.
I used to go by this... until just recently... I went to see friends in Cheltenham and asked what the hell had happened?.... everyone had new kettles
during the floods not long back, they were issued "bottle spring water" and it broke the kettles due to all the lime scale build up (this is within a 2 week period)
Scared the shite out of me ..... so tap water all the way from now on

| do you drink tap water? Posted: 8/29/2007 10:55:00 AM | | My dad works for severn trent and he said all you have to do to make tap water taste good is to pour it into a jug/bottle/glass and leave it for a few hours because the chlorine and other treatments are gaseous and they evaporate very quickly, changing the taste... I tried it and it is true.. I don't drink tea or coffee just tap or bottled water depending upon where I am.. | |

| do you drink tap water? Posted: 8/29/2007 11:01:00 AM | | Well I did an apprenticeship in pluming & have seen first hand old pipework & I dont drink tap water if I can help it!!! | |
|
| do you drink tap water? Posted: 8/29/2007 11:02:10 AM | I never drink tap water, where i live it doesnt even smell very nice, so if im drinking water its bottled.
I do use tap water in the kettle for tea & coffee, boiling it seems to get rid of the smell.
|
| do you drink tap water? Posted: 8/29/2007 11:12:47 AM | I don't drink water at all unless its used in coffee.
I've moved around the UK quite a bit in the past and in some places the water is disgusting. Scotland as a rule has soft water which is much nicer to drink but in peaty area's it can become discoloured after heavy rain
|
| do you drink tap water? Posted: 8/29/2007 11:13:20 AM | Always have done, and I always will do.
I sometimes filter my drinking water, but that's because London's water furs up the kettle and iron (whatever one of those is). I never had to do that in Halifax.
Otherwise, it's straight from the tap and into my stomach.
Bottled water is an expensive con.
|
| do you drink tap water? Posted: 8/29/2007 11:16:47 AM | yes i drink tap water it is quite soft up here and very good
if you only drink water with drinks like tea and coffee it is better to only boil the kettle once as re boiling water constantly decrease the minerals in it
