| Scams from women on dating sites Posted: 9/9/2007 3:28:44 PM | Hi, I was on an other dating website and 5 out of 7 women i spoke too, fell in love after the 2nd or 3 email, then they mention that they are either begging for food or are in trouble and need me to send them money so they can come to me.90% wind up from Nigeria. I played the game to find out if any addresses match.Same country but not the same address. My point is: I met women i like but they looked too good to be there, maybe that's my problem. Any advice?? | |

| Scams from women on dating sites Posted: 9/9/2007 3:49:24 PM | | Don't date women from Nigeria. PoF allows to limit your searches to geographic areas. Someone from Nigeria won't know about the big whatever that happened on your local street corner, so you would probably have better success in your pre-screening process for determining the people you really want to meet in person. I imagine if somebody falls through email without there being a personal meeting, then there should really be a huge red flag. | |

| Scams from women on dating sites Posted: 9/9/2007 4:23:49 PM | Awwwwww, come on, Alain. You weren't born yesterday and you've surely owned a computer long before you joined POF. Anyone with half a brain cell knows almost everything coming out of that country is a SCAM.
You know what SCAM stands for, don't you? Screwing Crazy Americans (out of) Money.

| Scams from women on dating sites Posted: 9/9/2007 4:34:35 PM | I met a great lady this year, from Russia. It all seemed too good to be true, but she spoke (wrote) really good English, was well-read, sent me plenty of pics that weren't nudies, but pics of her, her parents, friends, etc. I was planning on going to Europe within the year, so thought wasn't out of the realm to meet up in some romantic country. International Blind Dates! A new reality show, right? Anyway, long and short, she said she obtained a short-term Visa to come to good old Utah instead-her idea-but she was short on money. She wanted me to go through MoneyGram and send her money. Anyway, I didn't, and in fact called Money Gram to see if the name Anna Gavrilova had any fraud hits on it lately. The security guy said, yea, in fact just that morning that name came up for some guy from another state that she solicited. Think about it--one of these beyotches pitches to 20 guys per month, maybe she gets five dumb enough to send her money. That's a pretty good living. Okay, I almost fell for it. But at least I had her checked out first. Michael | |

| Scams from women on dating sites Posted: 9/9/2007 5:53:04 PM | There is NO way that any SINGLE woman from the former USSR can obtain a visa to come to the USA. All you need to do it go to the department of state website and they will tell you this. I was on yahoo persomals for a while and I would get these "women" all the time they were all the same. 1. Much younger 2. Very attractive 3. E-mails they never really answered normal questions you asked of them. 4. They would be 'in-love' with you by the 3rd e-mail. 5. They always want you to send money to them so they can buy a ticket or whatever.
I got one from Nigera that stated she was orgianlly from the Tampa bay area. "She" knew nothing about the area or the state of Florida for that matter.
The reason I write "she" and "women" in quotations is because most of the time it is men who write them.

| Scams from women on dating sites Posted: 9/9/2007 7:32:16 PM | I want to thank you all for your responses,I am new here and didn't expect answers so fast.I already new it was a scam,I played along to see a connection as to where this was coming from. It's all from Nigeria so here's what I did!! I asked all 5 of them to take a picture of themselves holding a sign with my name on it to see if it was really them and not a model. Only one did it,she was the smarter one,she didn't ask for money right away, she wanted me to offer. She said she was starving! I decided to find out if she had a conscience.Turns out she didn't!! I told her that in deed I could get $2000 but would have to empty my 3 girls life savings to do it. She actually thanked me!! I have her on Yahoo messenger and decided to push it further or to drive her crazy. I said GOOD NEWS, instead of sending you the money,I got 1 week off from work and decided to surprise you,My plane will land in Lagos Nigeria in 7 days,I will spend the week with you and take you back with me! She got disconnected after that. LOL!! I kept the addresses and pictures, will probably email them to each other.
I guess that meant that I had time to kill and bad people to tourment.
Thanks again for all your responses.

| Scams from women on dating sites Posted: 9/9/2007 7:57:51 PM | um, i'm sure there are women in nigeria that are
1.hungry 2.in need of money 3.attractive
...just like every other country on the planet. unless you have the money, but more importantly, the time, to actually go meet them and find out if they're right for you, then why even bother with the emails in the first place?
my 2 cents. | |

| Scams from women on dating sites Posted: 9/9/2007 8:13:33 PM | | Anyone that takes up with one of those foreign "ladies' is in serious trouble... or is incredibly naive. | |
|
| Scams from women on dating sites Posted: 9/9/2007 8:22:09 PM | | yes, it is starting to get clearer to them now,if you would see the pictures, you would now that they are not starving.2 of them figured it out. | |
|
| Scams from women on dating sites Posted: 9/9/2007 8:27:30 PM | One of them, said that her and her father had oil companies and had a falling out and now she audits the companies and then told me that she had 2 briefcases that contained 5.7 millions in cash and she wanted to send it to me,then she asked me to send her $850.00 .
So if she is starving or the others,if they are,how come they can afford to be on the net everyday and show pictures with very nice clothes?
As soon as they mention money or Western Union, ther's a problem.I think you would agree with me on that.

| Scams from women on dating sites Posted: 9/9/2007 9:36:45 PM | | hey..i want to also add that i was looking for a roommate some time ago...and i was getting messages from women from nigeria ..one sent me a check and if i weren't smart enough i would have deposited it into my account... see i was smart enough to inquire about the check that i recieved at the bank....i found out it was a fake ...bogus check ....therefore i would have been charged a fee for a bounced check ...you see you have to be much smarter than the next person male or female and read into what they say and do ...otherwise you would be the one getting screwed in the end. | |

| Scams from women on dating sites Posted: 9/9/2007 9:43:22 PM | Western Union must do a good business in Nigeria. When I first started this online dating thing, the first person to contact me was a gorgeous blonde 26 year old named "Debby". I thought from the beginning there must be something going on, considering my overall luck with this online dating thing. She contacted me out of the blue also. I decided to play with it a little bit and see where it went. I would not normally reveal an email conversation I had with a woman, but I am sure this was a scam and not a real person. Here are some of the emails- "Debby"-
Hi Marcopolo9442 How are you doing? I just checked your profile and i am really interested in the way you kept it simple also wondered if you were up for a chat on yahoo messenger sometime or if you have the time you can send me a message on my yahoomail which is xxxxxxxxxx because my subscription will soon end .In your email you can tell me all about you and what kind of woman you are looking for to call your soulmate and also send me pictures of you if you have and i will reply with mine? I hope to hear from you with anticipation. Debby xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx I had pictures up in my profile! Why is she asking as if she hadn't seen them. Anyway, I sent her a few more.
I cannot find the first couple of emails I sent her for some reason, but anyway... "Debby"-
Hi I wanted to thank you for wanting to be a friend of mine and I assure you that I'll be the Honest,Caring,Trustworthy woman that I said I was.... One moral that I have always excersized in my everyday life style is the upmost respect for people and who they are ... I respect every man that has ever been a part of my life from my grandpa and dad to my uncle and all my friends.... I am a very energetic and get things done kinda girl... I am a true romantic in all aspects of the word... I feel a true romantic is a person who has good morals, a conscience, sensitive to feelings and knows how to treat a (woman or man) for who they are and what they mean to you in life.... It is a trait that is learned not given.... Marriage is a issue that needs time to be understood because people just jump into it without checking their compatibility with the other partner at all thereby causing problems along the way , The issue of divorce is one which i dont want to come across in my life thats why i am taking time to make sure i make the right decision that will last the rest of my life and try to keep my head up at all times and be determined to be someone in life not minding what may come my way .The kind of man i will love to marry must be honest , open , sincere, loving, caring. because all these matters in a relationship , he must be a man who will love me for who i am , and believe in me , a man that will be there for me and lend me a caring shoulder and smile to comfort me when the whole world is against me . dont let me bore you with myself tell more about yourself and what you like your ideal woman to have . Right now i am planning to settle down cause i have been facing my studies and am a vounteer field student with UNICEF and currently away from home , been to Liberia , Congo and right now in Nigeria , so i will like to know if you wont mind that ? and what are your plans for the future , maybe ts better we chat on yahoo messenger my id is (xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx).try and download it so we can chat,i dont have any other messenger to use . Have I bored you yet?...I hope not cuz this part of gettin to know someone is very important to the person explaining as well as the person thats reading... Anyway without being to lengthy and boring....I am a very humorous kinda lady who also knows what it means to be responsible and be there when needed for whatever it may be.... One of my favorite past times and hobbies is (Being with my loved ones) listening to music with my friends.... I Love To Play Music!!!!Mostly Blues and R&B some gospel,MetalHealth and just about any requests.... I like being outdoors horse riding, volleyball, running, and my fav.swimming!.... My fav. colors are BLACK,BROWN,pink GREEN,PURPLE and DEEP BLUE colors..Well, I guess I probably said more than enough.i hope to hear back from you, Debby Red flag #1-She discusses marriage Red Flag#2-She uses some of the same slang I used, coincidence? Red Flag#3-She is in NIGERIA ......run Forrest run!!! Me-
Hi Debby, I am confused now, are you in Vallejo or Nigeria?
"Debby"-
I am presently in nigeria rite now,i work in an orphanage centre,i am the welfare manager of the orphanage centre, plz write and tell me more about yourself.
Red Flag #4, she is from California but she is using British English, we don't say "centre" in California, we say "center"!
Me-
Fascinating, what is the name of the orphanage centre you work at? Are you originally from California then? I have always wanted to visit Africa myself, especially East Africa with all the animals. What do you want to know about me?
"Debby"-
Goodday and how are you doing today Thanks for your emailing me , well i cant describe myself but i will follow the way people will say Debby is very simple . caring , good listener, trustworthy and honest but i wont say i m perfect and not subject to mistakes.the name of my orphange centre is God's Own orphanage home,i am from vallejo, was born in CA. I would like to get to know you can you tell me about your past relationships and your views about marriage and divorce .I just got out of a 2 years relationship when i discovered that the man i as in love with was gay and i caught him in the act a few days after we got engaged , it really hurt me so much that it took me so time to get over it then this job came by (i used to work with the United Nations Children Fund team in London along Kingsway before i got transferred to Nigeria in an orphanage village for children refugees and children soldiers and also for polio vaccination so i decided to accept it so that i can get busy and forget all the memories of my relationship well after a while i decided to try online dating and see what oppurtunities it has for me because i have heard success stories . I grew up with my aunt because my dad died after he had a fatal car accident when i was a kid and my mum passed away a few years later (i guess it was the heart break that killed her) I was raised by a very strict aunt who is a strict christain since i was a kid that taught me all the moral values i needed in life and to count on God for support and wisdom . .The issue of divorce is one which i dont want to come across in my life thats why i am taking time to make sure i make the right decision that will last the rest of my life and try to keep my head up at all times and be determined to be someone in life not minding what may come my way age , religion, tribe or educational level doesnt matter as long as he loves me a man that will be there for better for worse and his love will never change to me . Have a nice day and i have attached a few of my pictures to this email .Bye and have a blessed day. Kisses and hugs from Debby
Red Flag #5-why is she talking about herself in the third person?
Obviously "she" is on to me suspecting a scam and tries to make up a story about why "she" knows nothing about California and is using British English. And here is red flag #6- I find another profile with her face and even same name, but on it she states she is in Austin, Texas! I knew she was too good to be true. Anyway, I continue to BS "her"-
Hi Debby, I didn't get the pictures for some reason, would have loved to see them. Anyway, about me, I am independently wealthy. I patented an invention and make royalties off the intellectual property from that. Needless to say, I never have to work another day in my life if I don't want to. I don't know why your boyfriend stayed in the closet for so long, there is no need to hide that here in California. Do you miss California? What were some of your favorite things to do around Vallejo when you lived here? Did you like to go to San Francisco much?
"Debby"-
well to let you know,i was bor in vallejo,i left vallejo when i was a little girl,i didnt move around,i was only 9 when i left,i moved to the Uk to stay with my aunt after the death of my parent.i only miss my real home, where i truely come from.
Me-
Did I mention what a total hottie I think you are? I just want to have hot steamy sex with you in the hot steamy Nigerian jungle:-)
nothing..... Me-
Hi Debby, I haven't heard from you, hope you are okay. I really do wanna make hot steamy passionate love with you in the jungle, and I know you want it too:) I know you cannot resist a hot piece of man-candy like me:)) BTW, what is your favorite sexual position? Do you have any naked pics?
nothing....obviously on to me knowing it was a scam, oh, well, I decided to generously write a critique for the scammers anyway...
Me-
I am really disappointed in you, you didn't even make it to the part where you have to flee because of political unrest, you fear for your life and you need me to wire you a bunch of money to Nigeria. Anyhow, since you have apparently given up already, I will at least do you the favour of critiquing your scam. It is good that you at least got some fake friends on your profile to vouch for you (or are those just other chumps you are in the process of ripping off?). Anyway, that part was very clever. You also had more than one photo, also good, but pretty easy to rip off someone elses profile and post them anyway. She was also beautiful but "real" looking, ie not some fake looking bikini supermodel, so she was hot but convincing. However, there are some places where you royally screwed up. The most glaring screwup is when you used British English. Since when does someone born in California use British English!? I think you realized that and tried to save yourself but it was too late. The other obvious screwup is mentioning the word "Nigeria", I mean, come on, everyone with any sense whatsoever knows that Nigeria is the scam capital of the world! Next time at least say you were in Zimbabwe or something, that would be a little believable because everyone knows what an a**hole Mugabe is. But Nigeria! come on, that one is getting old. There is also no record of mentioned orphanage or of "Debby" that I could find anywhere, except on another personal site which is probably also your doing. Anyway, bottom line is that you really suck as a scammer, and I would recommend retaking scamming 101 at Nigeria University and perhaps some more advanced internet scamming courses as well before you try this again. later dude, and better luck next time!

| Scams from women on dating sites Posted: 9/10/2007 4:31:06 AM | hi Marcopolo9442, Thanks, I really got a good laugh.
I'm still keeping them waiting and tourmenting them. I got them on .com ,that website got me to discover this one. I'm considering eventually posting their ID for others to drive them crazy. One thing I did notice is that they all make typing mistakes and eventually, their story changes. They say they want you and can't live without you but when you tell them that you're coming to see them, thet freak out.
I want to thank everyone again for your responses, I learned a lot and got some interesting info, like this: Avoiding scams and fraud
You can sidestep would-be scammers by following these common-sense rules: DEAL LOCALLY WITH FOLKS YOU CAN MEET IN PERSON - follow this one simple rule and you will avoid 99% of the scam attempts on craigslist.
NEVER WIRE FUNDS VIA WESTERN UNION, MONEYGRAM or any other wire service - anyone who asks you to do so is a scammer.
FAKE CASHIER CHECKS & MONEY ORDERS ARE COMMON, and BANKS WILL CASH THEM AND THEN HOLD YOU RESPONSIBLE when the fake is discovered weeks later.
NEVER GIVE OUT FINANCIAL INFORMATION (bank account number, social security number, eBay/PayPal info, etc.)
AVOID DEALS INVOLVING SHIPPING OR ESCROW SERVICES and know that ONLY A SCAMMER WILL "GUARANTEE" YOUR TRANSACTION.

| Scams from women on dating sites Posted: 9/10/2007 10:06:53 AM | I am not from Nigeria or Russia or any foreign country. I am from Florida. I am not exactly hungry or living on the streets but I still need your help. Christmas is coming pretty quick and I need some extra money.
OK, I once bought 100 Lotto tickets with the same numbers thinking I'd increase my chances of having a winner, so sign me up for 50 emails, add me to your favorites and when can we chat ( I know you're bluffing here)?
BTW your email address is not working, so how do I arrange payment in advance for services rendered?
