| Zombie Awareness Day Posted: 9/13/2007 10:31:45 PM | By now, the majority of North America is aware of International Talk Like a Pirate Day (ITLAPD), a holiday for pirate enthusiasts worldwide. I was pondering on ITLAPD and began to wonder to myself: if pirates have a day, why not zombies? If ITLAPD could start with two men talking about it in 1995, what would it take for zombie enthusiasts to get their day? A day for Zombie Awareness?
With this in mind I began to search the internet to find if there was just such a day, mostly as an excuse to run an event at my university. I soon discovered that there had been several disparate attempts by different parties to come up with a zombie day, but there was never any consensus and often the days were picked at random. As officer commanding of the [removed] Zombie Militia, I felt the need to establish an official day to spread zombie awareness. After some thought, I had my answer.
On October 1st 1968, George A. Romero's immortal classic Night of the Living Dead premiered at the Fulton Theater in Pittsburgh. This was a landmark day in zombie culture, changing the face of the zombie movie genre as we knew it. When one thinks of a zombie movie, Night of the Living Dead is often the first to come to mind.
So with this in mind, and to commemorate that day, I proclaim October 1st to be Zombie Awareness Day.
On Zombie Awareness Day, people should take a moment to reflect on the coming Zombie Apocalypse, and to take stock of how prepared they are for it. A day to tell a friend about the Undead Menace, to teach a stranger the best ways to defend themselves from these ghouls. A Day to celebrate all those who work to protect humanity from the jaws of the zombies. When the zombies rise (and if movies have taught me anything, it is that they WILL rise), will you be zombie bait? On Zombie Awareness Day we must all ask ourselves: ARE WE PREPARED?
I realize that many of us are not. As officer commanding of the [removed] Zombie Militia, I feel that it is my duty to make sure that as many people as possible ARE prepared for that fateful day. So on October 1st 2007, I will holding events at [removed] to celebrate the first annual Zombie Awareness Day. We will teach those who are in the dark to protect themselves from the Undead Menace and spread awareness of their threat to humanity.
Perhaps it is fitting that October 1st is also World Vegetarian Day, for the meat the zombies would eat is our own!
I hope everyone joins me in celebrating Zombie Awareness Day and to spread the word to as many people as possible.
Organize before they rise!

I cannot make a story about a self made thing on wikipedia, it would be deleted, someone else has to write it.

| Zombie Awareness Day Posted: 9/14/2007 11:19:10 AM | I will support your creation of Zombie Awareness Day, and believe October 1st to be an excellent day to commemorate and celebrate the coming of the gray moaning hordes.
I have my plan, do you have yours?

| Zombie Awareness Day Posted: 9/14/2007 1:31:06 PM | | I thought most people were already "aware" on Halloween...October 31st? But, if the date wants to be moves to segragate and idolize just one sort of horror, then, to be politically correct, we should be assigning days for all the other ghouls, creepy-crawlies and monsters out there. | |

| Zombie Awareness Day Posted: 9/14/2007 1:46:12 PM | | Every day is Zombie Awareness Day, right up until you slip. Then every day is Huuuuurh ... Braaaaains Day. | |
|
| Zombie Awareness Day Posted: 9/14/2007 2:06:08 PM | | I want to suggest that those of us with college age children email them about this observance, because, as we all know, it's not really going to be an event until they put it on Facebook! | |

| Zombie Awareness Day Posted: 9/14/2007 2:09:39 PM | Apparently theres alot of Zombie protests going on, called "Zombie walk"- according to Wiki, it started in Toronto with a whole 6 people, and by a year and half later, grew to 600 people in Vancouver.
So far, the biggest Zombie Walk occured last October, in the mall that Dawn of the Dead was filmed in Pittsburgh, with over 800 people
Some of these are for charity purposes, however- Zombie Walk for Blood, as they are essentially blood drives with alot more corn syrup.....

| Zombie Awareness Day Posted: 9/14/2007 6:02:49 PM | | ERrrmmm..... Weeeelll, there's Easter. Rename that one?? Run a search for Zombie Jesus. | |
|
| Zombie Awareness Day Posted: 9/14/2007 7:08:54 PM | The event IS on facebook, I am hoping people spread it around.
I DO have a plan for the zombie apocalypse, as well as plans for an event up at the uni to celebrate the day.
Having the day on Halloween would be like having it on Christmas, no one would care.
Zombie walks are kick ass, but they are not coordinated and are disparate events by different groups. I want a Day that all will know about.

| Zombie Awareness Day Posted: 9/16/2007 12:50:39 PM | You know what? Zombies are people too! Yeah they want to eat your flesh and brains, and sure they drone on all day and night with that monotone low level humming, and occasionally they try to kill Mila Jovovich, but they just want to be who they are, just like any one of us.
So yeah, let's give them a day at least! Maybe if we give them a day of respect and dignity, they will just snap our necks before they start eating us when they eventually take over.

Some friends of mine and I have a movie idea where Jesus returns in the second coming, only he is PISSED (about the crucifixion or the state of the world or such) so he raises an army of zombies to destroy the world and it is up to Buddha to save the day.

Anyhow's. ..Lots of zombie costumes out there for sale at this time of year. Most have some excellent pieces that go with them! I saw a ceramic skull with "slime brains" in them....they feel gross...
What about taking ceramic skulls, filling them with jello that has gummi worms in it? Neat for a gross treat!
