| New Music ...., as in something really different ! Posted: 9/28/2007 11:58:33 PM | These days its very hard to find genuinely original and NEW music ......, allegedly there is nothing new under the musical sun. I cant say I have heard that much that is new (lately at least)....., BUT..., I did rather like Joe Strummer & the Mescaleroes a couple of years ago (all 3 albums). ANYWAY ..., I challenge all you fish out there...., have you heard any seriously new and original music lately that really floats your boat, grabs your ear, kicks butt or is generally in a class of its own etc etc. More importantly can you enlighten the rest of us ?
Who do you think is Fresh/New/Inovative/Cutting Edge ?

Seventh - Aussie band and Rude Kostry - a Czech band who are quite good, if your a rock buff look up their track 'PsuedoHendrix' The Coral - English band, not bad at and very different for sure! Have to say my favourite track of theirs is 'dreaming of you'

The song was "Once I killed a Hamster with a Stick". Surprisingly it didn't fare too well in the charts, dunno why...
Up my way it's hard to see new talent in the flesh which is a tad limiting.
When 'New kids on the Block' were popular a Townsville band called 'New skids on your Jock' were circulating the pubs. They couldn't sing for sh1t, but hilarious nontheless.

Posted: 9/29/2007 5:37:48 PM | About a year ago got into a quite different double CD commissioned by Johnny Depp , who (so the story goes) during the shoots for the pirate movies ...., was given to (alegedly as part of research) a bit of drinking and singing sea shanties and pirate songs. Anyway various people would drop by and they really got into it . So the upshot was Depp ended up paying a chap to do some research ..., who then came back with 600 plus songs ! Johnny whacked a few pieces of eight in the kitty..., rang a few mates and got all these 'high falutin' music star mates to pop into their local recording studio....., and hey presto they bunged out the double CD called..........., "Rouges Gallery"!! And its a fair dinkum cracker mate ! All the words to the piratin classic "The Good Ship Venus" are there...., I did notice Serenex had purloined the words and changed them a wee bit in one of the other forums ....., very funny stuff. BUT ...., Seriously...., it's worth checking out....... so...., Do yourselves a flavor etc etc etc.

The front man has a really unique voice which has been likened to that of Billy Corgan's, of Smashing Pumpkins fame. My prediction is that their song ,Lazy eye, will be number 1 on this year's Triple J's hottest 100. Watch this space.

The Beautiful Girls are a bit more upbeat, they have a song called "In Love" which isn't too bad...

I liked it enough to try some more... Thanks Mattox My daughter is thrashing Bluejuice & Urthboy & I'm torturing her with The Hives' Tick Tick Boom
