| Do Engilsh girls swoon over American accents?! Posted: 10/1/2007 10:33:14 AM | I know that American girls and guys are infatuated by the English & Australian accents... I wonder... Is it the same in reverse?! Do English and Australian guys & girls think the same about the American accent? Or do we just sound like a bunch of un-educated hicks?!

One thing about accents........some are so thick it's hard to interpret what they are saying, regardless which country they hail from.

Seriously, my mother is from England. She met my dad when he was in the Air Force stationed in England and she did swoon over his Okie drawl.
I find most accents interesting, no matter where they're from.

Yes, there is. Just take out all the abrasive tones in the "American" accent then add some education, class and humility. I must say there would be something unsettling about having the surgeon, about to operate on you, walk into the room and say "Howdy! How y'all doin'?"
*laugh* not remotely appealing to this one, though I like a Canadian accent with a dash of Irish mixed in *smiles at someone*.
^^^ That sounds like a Newfie... finest people on the planet...
I know it's "Ask a Girl", but I do love a French accent and some English accents. There are some English accents that leave me cringing...

| Do Engilsh girls swoon over American accents?! Posted: 10/1/2007 12:09:09 PM | | I'm from Massachusetts and I'm very conscious not to speak with a Boston accent. To me a Boston accent is the worst and is like nails down a chalk board. Wicked pissah! I do however love an English accent. I once dated a turkish man who was born in Turkey but moved to Austrailia at 10. I couldn't understand a word he said! | |

Itsounds very Bostonian, with a french twist. As far as English accents, it makes my hormones do backflips!

It wouldn't be a deal-breaker, but most of time it sounds a bit nasal. I think people "swoon" over accents simply because it's something a bit different to themselves. Whether it be Liverpudlian or Texan.

I do enjoy the American accent on guys, especially those from the south and in Florida, which is where I live now. I just love the way the guys call me sweetheart and sugar ............

| Do Engilsh girls swoon over American accents?! Posted: 10/1/2007 4:06:01 PM | I was just thinking about this recently, because there's a possibility I might be moving to New Zealand in the near future.
I don't know if I have a distinctly identifiable accent. Maybe people from other parts of the country might disagree, but I think my accent is kind of neutral, ordinary midwest American... you know, the accent that American broadcasters use. My dad's family is from the south, and my mom's is from the northeast, and I grew up in the southwest where people from all over the country migrate to. So I don't think there's anything distinctive here.
Anyway, I wonder how Kiwis would react to my accent?

Colin Farrell's Irish accent comes to mind. Hugh Grant's English accent - boyish and self deprecating. Antonio Banderas has a rather sexy voice.(although you do have to get past the Puss in Boots image to hear it)
Did I go off-topic?? | |
