Oct 10 MMP vote in Ontario

Wondering how many people actually know what MMP is about. We have to vote on it next week, yet everyone I talk to have no idea how it will work.

The Pro-sites (voteformmp.com) make it sound nice, but don't really explain how the 39 proportional or list MPPs will be choosen.

While the Anti-sites (nommp.ca) make it sound like all hell will break loose.

So does anyone here know what it is and how it will work? Like who gets the proportional seats?

Well this does not look good.
A vote that could change things in a drastic way and no one has an opinion.

Personally I have too many unasnwered question to give it a Yes vote.

I am voting for it.

Keep in mind that CURRENT EVENTS is a global forum. Most people that contribute here are not from Ontario, so they have no idea what you are talking about here.

try this trewq. there's at least a couple of Ontarioans that have an opinion.

http://forums.plentyoffish.com/datingPosts8076050.aspx

BC and PEI recently voted it down. It doesn't seem as simple as the brochure they sent out with our documents for the election.

And the extra's are picked from a list. The government tells us they will publish the list well in advance of the election in order for us to make an informed decision. Well, the election's only 6 daas away, but i haven't seen any lists yet...and neither to my knowledge, has anyone in the government seen the lists.

There's a wee bit on wiki that might help sort thru some of the confusion, but even our northern reps have no idea who'll be on the list. So if the present politicians don't know who's on the list, how the hell are we supposed to make an informed decision.

Ps. I'm voting NO to it as well. We get less representation in the north from 10 seats down to 9, while the total number of seats across the province goes up by 20%. N-O spells no. Not big on mushroom management of people. Keep 'em in the dark and feed 'em lots of bullsh1t.
Just an opinion.

MMP would kick in for the next Ontario provincial election in 2011.

I don't like "extra" MPs from those lists. It smacks of patronage.

Ooops, sorry trewq. I forgot two more links for ya

http://www.citizensassembly.gov.on.ca/assets/Description%20of%20the%20Ontario%20Citizens'%20Assembly's%20MMP%20System.pdf
(might take a minute to load)

and
Ontario electoral reform referendum, 2007

ps. It doesn't matter what folks think about wiki as a source of reference. Most folks don't even bothering referencing their left nut. What is important however, is all the links provided at the end of the articles for you to explore the matter further.

Thanks guys.
First I posted here as it is a current event here (Ontario). And it bothers me that no one (Media) is talking about it. While I heard one Politian say they are not allowed to talk about it....Huh?
Yet as I said earlier, no one I talk to knows any thing about it.
Yea Mushroom management alright.

And although all the major parties have made statments about how "Transparent" the "Appointments" will be. There is no real proceedure layed out for it, only Promises. And we all know what their promises mean. I fear they are just moving their lips.
