Posted: 10/7/2007 12:04:46 AM | | Is there any anime that is corny, in your opinion, that you like/love to watch? Despite the fact that is has alot a melodramtic love scenes, or melodramatic scenes where the main character is all crying and stuff? Me, I'm into alot of anime, doesn't matter what anime it is. Some of the anime I watch may be considered corny, or melodramtic. I watch Sailor Moon(( Dubs, though I switch to subs every now and then, lolz, it's alot more vulgar, with the uses of s**** b****, and other things that the worried mothers of america wouldn't like one bit)) Naruto ((I got tired of Naruto being all melodramatic, and with Sakura crying about Sasuke, and stuff)) I also watch Digimon((This be really corny at times, but it has it's moments.)) | |

When she is put into a life threatening situation her clothes rip off (total nudety) and she transforms. But her transformation isn't to some muscular woman or anything like that. She changes her physical type and will go froma brunette to a blond, or a blond to a red head, etc. | |

Are you kidding? (no pun intended) Much of the anime out there is the last thing you want your kids watching. A lot of it has adults as its target market. Most of the stuff that's on regular TV has been hugely edited so it can be marked 'G'. Uncut versions of Ranma 1/2 and even Sailor Moon however, are really not suitable for children. The Japanese do have odd ideas for this kind of animation. The Manga Ranma 1/2 is about a teenage boy martial artist (of course) who has met with with an accident that makes him now transform into a girl when he has water splashed on him. Supporting cast include an elderly martial artist who is into bras and panties in a big way, and spends a lot of his time running around stealing them. My daughter was (and still is) heavily into Sailor Moon which I found to be really silly. | |

Have you ever heard of an anime called Urotsukido? Its a series of movies. It will knock your socks off with all the sex & violence. Then there's an American one from '82 called Heavy Metal, a favorite of mine. Another one from '71 called Fritz The Cat. There's another anime called Ghost In The Shell. That one I mentioned in an earlier post "Cutie Honrey is not for kids either. Way too deep for kids. There is anime out there that is way too adult for kids. | |

I remember coming home from school in the 70's and sitting down to watch Kimba the White Lion, Speed Racer, and a few other Japanese imports.
I do like Ghost in the Shell, Akira, Metropolis, Spirited Away, Castle in the Sky, Howl's Moving Castle, and a few others. I've seen some of the other strange titles mentioned, but I could never get into them... the theme songs always annoyed me.
If it had a cool theme song, I'd watch it. | |

Posted: 3/6/2008 1:11:31 PM | Ya manga/anime is definitely not aimed at children, the adult nature and themes in stuff like akira, ghost in the shell, ninja scrolls (which had been seriously cut down for the western audiences, the jap original has some pretty shocking scenes in it), legend of the overfiend is just completely mental, and ofc theres the full on hentai stuff thats DEFINITELY not aimed at children lol, more at lonely businessmen called chen.
Saying cartoons are only for kids is like saying the new's is only for adults because it has real people in it, its well worth giving it a look if you havnt already the animation technique alone is something worthy of awe if your into art etc, the film akira was entirely done by hand and it just blows you away. | |

Posted: 3/8/2008 12:39:01 PM | Oh man..i saw an anime topic and i had to jump in (is it wierd that i am the only girl here?) anywayz...i completely agree that anime is geared towards an adult audience yet it is introduced to the cildrens market through shows like poke-mon, and yu-gi-oh which hooks kids and get them to move up in the world of anime to stuff like Sailor Moon and DBZ, then futher moving on to shows lik Inuyasha, and Yu-Yu Hakusho, and then some of us move on to stuuf like...Gakuen Heaven, but thats just my point of veiw. And im not even going to go into Hentai...but anywayz...i think that the only reason that people beleive than anime is geared towards kids is bc children grow up watching it and then grow up into adults who still love it...at least thats what happened to me!
And Ghost in the Shell, FLCL, and Ninja Scroll can definitly be a little bit shocking if you arent expecting it
(i only watched subs most of the time so i am used to it)
Oh...and what was that i saw about the Hellsing Soundtrack?

But I still watched it only because I didn't have cable tv and there were nothing better to watch when I was a teen. But when Dragon Ball Z entered the scene I was hooked. Unlike Sailor Moon, it didn't have happy endings, magic wands, and fairy dust. Characters actually get killed, heads get decapitated with no remorse (but at the time I didn't know that because it was censored). I went out and bought t-shirts, hats, toys, everything I could get my hands on. Now that I am grown it's just not the same anymore. | |

Posted: 3/11/2008 6:05:58 AM | dragonball is great to watch when your drunk, its around about that point where the world is spinning and your sure you can actually hear the food in your stomach telling you its coming for a return visit that you can begin to understand what the hell is going on lol.
Omg.. on that subject.. the guyver! the greatest head >bleep< of all time and the dubbing is TREMENDOUS!, loved watching that with its tender moments suddenly broken with something having its head removed and then wild cuts to completel inanity like someone sitting at a desk .. brilliant lol.
Anyone a fan of monkey magic as were on the eastern subject?, loved that show to peices.. love it even more after the guy who played monkey explained how when he watched it back in the dubbed version half the stuff that was being "dubbed" wasnt even in the script lol.
Just a load of american producers having a bit of a laugh and he was more happy with the american version of it than he ever could of been with the original bless him!. | |

It was a sci-fi anime with no giant robots, no superpowers, no bikini-clad heroines, just a crapload of admirals, politicians, nobles, and a few Galactic Kaisers as they struggle through a period of galactic transition as control of humankind is contested between a brutal and oppressive monarchy and a corrupt and manipulative democracy. It can only be described as a historical documentary of the future... and if you watch it even anime fans will make fun of you for being a nerd...
Still not thinking its going to make it Stateside, though. A dang shame... | |

That also sparked what ended up being my final project for my Asian Studies major for college. It was the portrayal of women in Japanese Anime. Have to say was the best time I have had writing a 30 page paper in my life :) | |

Posted: 3/24/2008 2:46:14 PM | I enjoy watching anime, but I can only really stomach the lighthearted stuff, save for Cowboy Bebop and Death Note which are both excellent.
My favourite is Azumanga Daioh, followed closely by The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and FMP! Fumoffu? which are all similar in setting, but each has it's own quirks.
The current anime I'm watching is Lucky Star. It's not bad, but absolutely nothing happens in each episode, but the surreal comedy element keeps me watching it.
I'm going to have to watch Urotsukidoji one day just to see if it lives up to the hype. Was it the first ever film to feature tentacle rape?
