Has anyone out there heard of Macaroni Pie? (It's an Italain dish- my grandfathers favorite) And if you have do you have a good reciepe? I can't seem to get the family receipe correct. This is one dish I never saw any of my aunts make so-- I guess each time I try. 2 to 6 eggs and no more then a quart of milk-- just too many combinations. Was hoping someone else has heard of this. Thanks if you can help.

That sounds a bit like a Noodle Kugel my g'mother made... (A very Jewish variant on the macaroni pie)

10 (ten) oz medium egg noodles
4 tablespoons butter
Salt
2 eggs
1/2 lb curd or cream cheese
2 cups sour cream
A good pinch of nutmeg (optional)

Cook the noodles in boiling salted water till tender, then drain, and mix with the butter.

At the same time, in a large bowl, with a fork, beat the eggs with the curd or cream cheese, then beat in the sour cream. Add salt and nutmeg, if using, and mix in the cooked pasta. Pour into a baking dish and bake at 350 F (180 C) for 30 minutes, or until set.

Variations:
For a sweet dessert: do not add salt or nutmeg to the cheese mixture. Add instead 1/2 cup (125 g) sugar, the grated zest of an orange or a lemon and 3/4 cup (100 g) black or golden raisins, or dried pitted cherries.

You can make it a more savory dish by leaving out the nutmeg, add some fresh basil and a little oregano, a small saute'd onion, maybe a small handful of saute'd mushrooms, and substitute olive oil for the butter.

Can't take credit for this.....I googled it. Maybe it's what you are looking for.

ITALIAN MACARONI PIE

1 (7 oz.) pkg. elbow macaroni (2 c. uncooked)
1 lb. ground beef
1/4 c. sliced celery
1 (15 oz.) jar spaghetti sauce
1 (4.5 oz.) jar or can sliced mushrooms, drained
2 eggs, slightly beaten
1/3 c. grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 tsp. garlic salt
Parmesan cheese to sprinkle

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 10 inch pie pan or 9 inch square pan. Prepare macaroni according to package directions; drain.
In large skillet, brown ground beef with celery; drain. Stir in spaghetti sauce and mushrooms. Simmer 15 minutes.

In large bowl combine cooked macaroni, eggs, 1/3 cup Parmesan cheese and garlic salt. Toss lightly. Place macaroni mixture in prepared pan. Press evenly in bottom and up sides of pan forming a crust. Pour meat mixture over macaroni. Cover with foil. Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes. Remove foil and let stand 5 minutes before slicing. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. Serves 6.

Thanks-- these are close- pie crust based but they all have meat-- this is like a cheese custard with pasta in a pie crust. I keep looking-- even family members can't help me out more then my aunt did. I really wish I had the chance to make it with her once. Thanks again. I'll keep looking--and playing with the recipe I have --- maybe someday I'll get it right.
