wondering if anyone out there has participated in a home exchange for his/her vacation? Like the movie - swap a cottage/condo/lst or 2nd home of your own for one in a different province/state/country? Any advice from those who have? I'm considering it and am curious.

Where is AC... means air conditioning to me lol.

Yes, I've done it. Swapped my 2B/2B walk to the gulf of Mexico near 33708 for a loft in Manhattan for 2 mths. Great experience but I'd suggest you check each other out carefully to ensure you have similar lifestyles.

I'm considering doing it again with my 1B/1B, Any takers?

"ensuring similar lifestyles"?

Not sure but I'm guessing that if you like to keep to yourself and don't often entertain a house full of peopole, maybe you wouldn't want to trade with someone that might stand on the table at closing time and say, "everyone to 100 easy street for drinks".

You're absolutely right! We covered that aspect because both places had strict rules and neither wanted to get into trouble with the association, although there were other surprises.

The photos forwarned me to expect clutter. We'd discussed no pets, no smoking and agreed there would not be any. Their place reeked of cigarette smoke, strong pet odors and was dirty. Sanitized and cleaned for days.

Worried my place would not be in the same condition. Fortunately, it was

I did my first home exchange this summer - 3 weeks in Scotland. It was a very positive expericence overall, and I am eager to arrange another swap for next summer.

Trust is the single most important element in home exchange. Communicating beforehand your mutal expectations regarding cleanliness, use of cars, phone bills, contacts, etc. is essential. I emailed back and forth with my exchange parteners for about 5 months prior, and we were in contact throughout the actual vacation period as well.

If you do your homework, and go in with an open mind you should be able to arrange the holiday of a lifetime. I know I did!

Best of Luck....

I would love to do a home exchange at some point. My mother did one from Victoria to Halifax for a month and loved it.

My daughter in Heidelberg, Germany is involved with couchsurfing.com and has hosted and been hosted as opposed to trading. This is a no-cost option more so for the young at heart.

couchsurfing.com

What an excellent site - thanks so much for posting that. I have heard good things about it from other people since you mentioned it and am looking at hosting.

^^ Thailand's a great place to unwind and relax for a good price. It's also one of the safest places for women to travel alone and not be hassled.

Its a cheap way of seeing the world.

If anyone wants to see the Area where i live than use Google earth and look for carlisle on the border of scotland /England then look for a town called ASPATRIA in cumbria and then i live in a village called Prospect
3 miles to the beach
35 miles to Scotland and gretna green
12 miles to the lakes and mountains
20 miles from the wonderful city of carilsle
Glasgow/Edinbugh 110 miles
newcastle 75 miles

You never know 2008 could be a year of good travels
