I don't mean the generic stuff like "honesty", that's a given. But is there some little trivial quality you always hoped to find in someone but didn't? Personally I've always thought it'd be awesome to be with a woman that was sentimental. As in documenting the special times of the relationship, like with a photo album or scrapbook. Making a quilt for us, cross-stitching one of those lovey dovey pictures with our names on it... that sort of thing.

I know it probably sounds really silly doesn't it, and it isn't like a prerequisite for me or anything that someone be like that. Just saying... it'd be nice. One of those qualities I always secretly hoped to find in someone after I became involved with them, but never did.

So how about you guys?

uhh..not necessarily...believe it or not, not everyone thinks monogomy is a must in a relationship.

The one quality I always wished for...was the handy man...the one that would fix my door because it squeaked, or changed that bulb on the basement stair that I can't reach so that I don't kill myself trying to make my way downstairs in the dark, someone who could light the BBQ without fear and grill like a man possessed.

Dominance.

Now.......dont read that the wrong way - Im not into S&M .

But I like guys to be MEN. Since I have a strong personality myself - takes alot for someone to meet me on that - I usually end up making alot of the decisions and having the final say. Guess you could say im a little bit spoiled. :P

WOuld love for someone to challenge me on SOME issues. Not all - only some. Financially! haha. I stress about money like no end - wish someone else could take care of the budgeting for a change: even if it meant handing over my paycheck and just trusting that everything would get paid. I havent met anyone yet that is good with money that way though - or maybe its just not as important to them.........who knows!

Am I making any sense? haha. Its kind of ealy in the morning for me here! lol

It suprises me that you havent been with somoene sentimental - I thought that most girls were.......... Im going to start watching couples now - just to see! heheee

uhh.. most people wouldn't consider monogamy a unique, trivial quaility that you'd hope for in someone; That kind of thing is generally expected believe it or not.

Yep JanieGirl you are and your comment was interesting I thought. I'm noticing more here lately how that women outside of the U.S. seem to have an extraordinarily different way of thinking than those here in the states. If a man shows so much as a hint of a dominant nature to the typical American woman, she'll haul ass in the other direction so fast she'll leave firery footprints behind her.

Yep, I would think monogamy would be one of the must-haves. But judging by some posts I've read from my fellow guys expounding about how it's not in men's "nature" to stay with one woman their entire lives, I'm beginning to wonder?

And yes, I agree with matches. Be "very" careful about just what kind of dominance you want. Most American women recoil just mentioning the term.

I agree somewhat with Janie. To me there is a difference between being macho and being dominant. Dominant implies that the person possesses the knowledge and skills to put plans into action and see them through, while any guy can act macho while not having a freaking clue. I don't mind, in fact prefer, a take-charge kind of guy IF he knows what he's doing, but 'posers' need to get the h*** out of my way cuz I didn't manage to live this long by being a complete idiot. I want a man who knows how to rein me in without trying to break my spirit.

Ive always gotten all the important qualities I want in a man. After all if he didnt have the qualities I want....I wouldnt be with him. Im kinda picky that way!!!

However...a nice LUXURY....something none of my guys has been really good at....tho most of them THOUGHT THEY WERE...I want a guy who can give a GREAT massage!! Not jsut jabin and rubbin and mashing here and there. I want a guy who KNOWS HOW to give a GREAT massage. that entails some understanding of anatomy and what lines the muscles follow and how they funciton....along with the niceties of knowing how to set the atmosphere for relaxation. Im not talking about sex ...Im talkin about a frikkin GOOD MASSAGE. Too many people think thats one and the same thing. It aint brotha...it aint. A GREAT massage is something tobe savored and appreciated alll for itself........ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

anyhoo...i've had good men. but they gave crappy massages!

merry xmas

Windroper, Janie, and My2 have valid wishes....I can sympathize because those were traits none of my partners ever had either. But, the one trait I wish at least one of the guys that had walked through my life possessed, was the ability to really love me. I think a few "thought" they did, but as it turned out they mistook a romp in the sack and deep affection for being love. I've never ever been with a man who really loved me or even made love to me...and believe me, there is a difference between that and just sex with someone ya like alot, at least from what I have always heard. It would have been nice to, at some point in my life, have been shown the tenderness and devotion of another person toward me, it just never happened.

Lol, hey Unmatchable, you'da loved having me around then....and thanks for your post, seriously!!! One of the pet peeves both my ex husbands say drove them straight up the wall was how I was always the queen of domesticity and belonged a few centuries back in time. Don't get me wrong, Martha Stewart I'm not...and my house looks more like Roseanne Barr's old place rather than from the pages of Better Homes and Gardens...but I was forever trying new recipe's, canning, freezing, making handmade gifts, cross-stitching, knitting, crocheting, doing something for those I loved. I had even made wedding samplers I've since packed away for the kids, from when I was married to their dads. I thought a few days ago...men hate this kinda corny stuff so much, I'll never find anyone who thinks of this kinda thing as an endearing quality. Thank you for dispelling that notion!!! Being creative in such a way is a big part of who I am, and it's nice to know that wouldn't necessarily be frowned upon by every guy out there.

I'd like to find a person that enjoyed the water as much as I do - rent a houseboat a couple of times a year - buy a john boat and go fishing a few times a month - surprise me with a quick outing after work on a beautiful evening.

~heavy sigh~ Now I'm feeling melancholy.

I feel your pain Prairie, I feel your pain... It's like my Father told me once, he said "Son from time to time you'll meet a woman with perfectly good sense who's completely rational, but it's just a matter of time before she goes completely bugshit crazy" =.=

Women... gotta love em'

"...it's nice to know that wouldn't necessarily be frowned upon by every guy out there."

You have some very redeeming qualities there regalrose, things like you've described about yourself are some of the most attractive and respectable qualities that any woman could have, whether she's young or old or whatever. The person who told you that you belonged a few centuries back in time should have his head checked, he was very fortunate to have a woman who isn't afraid to actually act like a woman.

I've always hoped to meet someone who wanted to help with volunteer work and charity. I know there are a few guys out there that do, but I haven't been with one.

I don't just mean giving money as that's easy. It would be cool to find a partner that wants to do Habitat for Humanity or any other worthwhile cause.

OMG...is there ever !

I'm one of the least picky persons you'd ever meet and so when I started working about 40 minutes away from home, I thought it would be helpful if the "ex" would take some initiative around the house: example, put the whites in to wash, or start dinner and I'll finish when I get in, or go ahead and wrap a few christmas gifts, etc.

I'm not sure of what you'd call that .... maybe a "self starter" or someone that shows some initiative.

NOOOOOO!!! NOT THE LAUNDRY!!! AND ESPECIALLY NOT THE WHITES!!!

Sorry... okay... I'm better now. Either I am one of the world's worst about wanting things done a specific way or the guys I married figured out the best way to get out of doing chores was to purposefully do it 'wrong' so I wouldn't ask or trust them to do it anymore. I swear... if I was working overtime and asked my ex to wash a load of clothes he would shrink my favorite shirt every time (of course a different one each time). H***! I got to where I couldn't AFFORD for him to do laundry. Wiping down wood furniture with an excessively wet cloth and (worse yet) not wiping off the excess with a dry cloth will just about send me into convulsions. It's just not done.

Yeah, a man that will defend women while he is standing around all the guys and they start bad mouthing their wives, gf, or women in general!!
Wouldn't THAT be different!! (more a miracle I think)

A Traditional man. A man who feels repsponsible for his family. A man who enjoys knowing he can provide for the ones he loves whether he has to or not. A man who feels good to wake up in the morning knowing everyone is safe and sound and he makes sure of it.

There are millions of little boys who act macho and command the stature of dominance but arent willing to earn the title. A truly dominant man is almost extitnct...A man who is in not afraid to take charge, who has an action plan and knows just what to do to make it happen...he becomes dominant in the eyes of those who respect him. No woman wants to follow a man who doesnt have a clue! lol...Submissive is good depending on how you look at it. There is a certain resilient strength found in someone who will follow (submission)it is the furthest thing from being weak.

Pfft not this man, I don't want the title. I've always wanted a woman with some backbone who isn't afraid to actually take some initiative with things and run things together with me. But all I've ever had were the whiney submissive types who are addicted to playing follow the leader. ArrrrrrrrRRRRRRghhhh!! So annoying.

I have always wanted a girl that is as intelligent as I am, maybe even more than me.
Someone as honest too.. Adventurous, dedicated, open, loving, affectionate, good social skills, sexy and cares how she looks. Someone that can be a true mate and work with me to build a home and a future that we can be proud of and enjoy for the rest of our lives. Someone who would enjoy going places with me doing fun things like camping with 2,000 hippies at a national rainbow gathering.
A gal who would be proud to hold hands and hang on my arm in public, who doesn't get mad or shy away when I kiss her while we are shopping.
Someone that likes to be held close and feels the love all the way to their soul while getting those long hugs.
A gal who is still a girl and a woman at the same time. One who has control of herself at all times and doesn't go nuts and act crazy or be hateful because she's jealouse.
A girl that won't take advantage of me and will give her all just as I will.
I guess you can say that I want a GODDESS.
