| | Virtual InvisibilityPage 1 of 1 | Hi,
I clicked hide my profile, and at the top of inbox page it states
"Your profile is hidden, instant messaging is disabled, no user can find you in search results. Unhide Profile Now!"
When I search my username, no results are thrown up - fine!
However, I am listed on people's favourite lists, also people can view my profile through the link "view profile" on forum posts, and IM is not disabled, as IMs are still coming through to me (sure I could disable it through the mail settings page, but I want my profile to be properly "hidden" at present, so that I can use the forums, mail my friends, and not have people having the same abilities to see when I'm online and to try to have IM conversations with me unless I choose to IM them)...
Any advice? | |

| Virtual Invisibility Posted: 10/16/2007 9:46:57 PM | as IMs are still coming through to me (sure I could disable it through the mail settings page Your User Name cannot be found in any Searches, so who is Instant Messaging you?
Are they IM's from your Favourites List?
Hiding your Profile does not prevent anyone from contacting you, be it Instant Messenger or E-mail, it only keeps you off the Search Radars.
No one can Instant Message you only to the Degree you cannot be located.
For this Reason Hiding your Profile is not a Mail Setting Contact Restriction.
Purely Search.
If you want to hide any further, ie. "Contact Restrictions" do so in your Mail Settings.
If you want to cut off everyone, except those on your Favourites from getting in contact with you, then take your 'City' and 'Postal Code' out of your Profile and set the Contact Limit to 75 Miles in your Mail Settings
You might show up, if your Profile is not hidden, on a Province/State wide Search along with Tens of Thousands of other Users ... ie. a Needle in the Haystack.
Still further, enter an extremely 'Off-Beat' or non-existent Interest Item into your Profile to get a Seat on the Back of the Bus.
| Those on your Favourites Lists can always contact you, so remove any you don't want to message you. |

| Virtual Invisibility Posted: 10/17/2007 2:42:24 AM | Thanks for the advice, I preffered the old way where people who had hidden their profiles didnt appear on a favourites list even if they were on it.... Maybe considering the situation I should just leave the site... I like the forums tho :|
Also with Ireland's counties being so small, any man searching by county is going to easily spot if searching by county (which incidentally comes under city rather than state), as in the county I live in there isn't more than 200 women on here, if there's even over 100.

| Virtual Invisibility Posted: 10/23/2007 10:41:39 AM | I am trying to hide my profile until i feel like i can breathe again. Information overload... i don't know which end is up anymore and don't see how i can do anyone any justice like that. When i click on hide my profile i don't have anything showing that it is indeed hidden or an option to reverse this...
Any suggestions? | |

| Virtual Invisibility Posted: 10/23/2007 10:44:42 AM | Nevermind... i see now it has un - in front of " hide my profile click here." Pretty subtle, especially compared to what the OP was saying she had to indicate her profile was hidden.
Another question though, if you email people they will still be able to see your profile is that right? From what i understand you are only hiding your profile from searches and matches, not your favourites or people who have already contacted you, is that correct?
Thanks | |

| Virtual Invisibility Posted: 10/23/2007 10:52:54 AM | When i click on hide my profile i don't have anything showing that it is indeed hidden or an option to reverse this... All hiding a Profile essentially does is remove you from other People's Search Radars.
It does not restrict anyone from contacting you as set out in your Mail Settings, it only prevents anyone from finding you.
| And if you can't be found, you can't be contacted. |
From what i understand you are only hiding your profile from searches and matches, not your favourites or people who have already contacted you, is that correct? Correct.
if you email people they will still be able to see your profile is that right? They cannot find you in Searches either, but since they have your E-Mail, they can view your profile and freely contact you.
E-Mail Block to remove anyone from your Favourites List. |

if you are seriously bothered by others who may or may not be viewing and or contacting you but want to continue participating in the forums.. simply delete your current account and create a new one. No favorites..no problem. Set your restrictions to exclude everybody and post to your heart's content.
