| Would this intimidate you Posted: 10/20/2007 8:13:13 PM | | I enjoy working out and lifting weights. Would you be intimidated if you ask a girl how much she can leg press, and her 1 rep max was higher than yours? BTW mine is under 200 lbs, so its not that much. How bout if she lifts more weight than you on an average set but you can still lift more as a 1 rep max? just courious | |

| Would this intimidate you Posted: 10/20/2007 8:18:30 PM | | wouldn't corncern me much at all, considering I really do not lift weights at all.I really perfer more of a stretching routine then lifting.I get enough lifting at work to fill my needs. | |

| Would this intimidate you Posted: 10/20/2007 8:27:13 PM | What's this lifting weights thing of which you speak?
Kidding.
Honestly, I don't lift weights though, partially because I have nowhere to do it(Small nowhere town with no weight room anywhere to speak of..), and partially low motivation.
I tend to do other things like helping move large objects, or moving heavy things that tend to keep my muscles decent.
Did just buy some arm and leg strap on adjustable weights to do exercise with though, and kind of got sidetracked right after buying them, I need to start using them though.
I blame the lack of bad food(joking).
I just had to switch to a healthier diet because the doctor told me since my blood pressure is high(That's been normal for a few years...), and that I have really high cholesterol now, that if I don't do something soon, I'm going to end up with something like diabetes or this other little disorder(Forget what he called it..), so I had to start buying "healthy" food and being more active.
I've been losing weight though. I guess that's a good thing?
So I have no doubt you could probably beat me at reps.
Am I intimidated? No. Do I feel like I need to be doing more? Yes. Will I? Who knows.

| Would this intimidate you Posted: 10/20/2007 8:39:08 PM | G'day,
Personally I wouldn't be intimidated, although I'd probably use it as motivation.
Keep up the good work.
Cheers | |

| Would this intimidate you Posted: 10/20/2007 8:42:41 PM | | I couldn't care less about bodybuilding and thus couldn't care less about how many reps a woman could do. I will say, however, that I have seen video and pics from some Miss Universe competitions and find an incredibly ripped, muscular female body to look too similar to that of a man to be attracted to it. | |
|
| Would this intimidate you Posted: 10/20/2007 8:48:35 PM | | Yeah. I would be intimidated. I would probably hide in the bathroom and cry like a little girl whose Barbie just had her head ripped off and melted on the stove burner. | |
|
| Would this intimidate you Posted: 10/20/2007 8:55:30 PM | I cant imagine that that would intimedate anyone, except the meekest of guys out there.
its only once you start getting into talking about body building, do guys start to get weirded out with girls doing it. not many guys want a girl that looks like arnold schwartzenegger. mainly, cause plainly put, guys want girls, to be girls.... and theres a very specific idea of whats considerd "girly". very weird if you start to try and break it down.... but I dont want hijack your thread here, so I'll be quiet now.

| Would this intimidate you Posted: 10/21/2007 5:08:25 PM | | It wouldn't bother me a bit, if you work out regularly and I'm not I would expect you to have better conditioning than me! | |
|
| Would this intimidate you Posted: 10/21/2007 5:27:40 PM | | It makes it easier because you don't need to switch weights each set between you too. | |
|
| Would this intimidate you Posted: 10/21/2007 6:05:29 PM | | Actually it does not bother me a bit. I dated a woman once and her leg press was 800lbs. I guess I am comfortable with who I am so there wasn't a problem. | |
|
| Would this intimidate you Posted: 10/21/2007 6:26:42 PM | | I can do the splits both ways would that intimidate you? I think that physically people are all different so why should someone with stronger body strength be intimidating? It kind of is the same with level of education too. Someone with a Phd might scare someone with no post secondary but who knows they might not be able to change a tire. I guess it comes down to the whole package. | |

I noticed at my gym that many of the people who lift a lot bigger stacks than me are not doing it properly. I can lift more too if I acted like them, but I am going to continue what I am doing because I am getting results.
They speed through it like it is a race. Sometimes, you can hear the stacks smashing down after each rep. You are supposed to take it slow, especially on the return part of rep. You don't let the weights touch.
At my gym, I am not in competition with anybody BUT myself. I am not concerned with what other guys or ladies do at the gym.

| Would this intimidate you Posted: 10/21/2007 6:37:32 PM | I'd more than likely think "cool, maybe I can get some pointers" or "someone must take good care of themselves"
i can see how some men can be intiidated by that tho, they're also the ones who get intimidated by a woman having anything more than them.

| Would this intimidate you Posted: 10/21/2007 6:40:43 PM | Women's lower halves---specifically the legs---are where their centers of gravity are concentrated and they can easily achieve very impressive leg strength. If you're talking a real leg press with the bar behind your head, resting on your neck and not on some machine then I'd be VERY impressed by that near-200 pound feat considering your height. Now if you want to talk intimidation.........................
When I was newly home from the USMC in about 1973 I was all muscle with a bit of attitude thrown in and loved nothing more than spending most of my daylight free time playing basketball on a school playground. A rather tall girl started hanging around and it was easy to see she wanted to play in a game or two. Well...............as it turns out she was a varsity volley ball player on the local huge state college team and had been a high school standout in girls basketball. Fast as lightning and not a bit afraid to post up and check someone on defense she was pretty much an amazing player. My short self and she dated for about 6 months and naturally basketball played a part. There's nothing more "intimidating" than having your best shot stuffed back into your face by your girlfriend who's about 7 inches taller than you (bare footed, standing up) with a vertical leap of about 24 inches! Aye caramba---good thing I had a decent shot from the top of the key! LOL
Guys who are "intimidated" by your hard work aren't worth your concern or interest--find someone who'd encourage and help you in all this---that would be fun as well as productive and maybe inspire you to a level you never imagined!

| Would this intimidate you Posted: 10/21/2007 6:43:20 PM | | It wouldn't intimidate me, but from a physical standpoint she probably wouldn't look very feminine if she could lift as much as me. | |
|
| Would this intimidate you Posted: 10/21/2007 6:48:14 PM | | Actually that would be really cool - I enjoy workouts and might be something we can enjoy doing together. | |

| Would this intimidate you Posted: 10/21/2007 7:11:10 PM | I enjoy working out and lifting weights. I fall into the muscular female category... I am 5'10 1/2 246 I bench press 200 plus pounds in reps of 5 I leg press 875 pounds in reps of 8... I have never met a man who was intimidated, it just means I'm not dainty, and I can help him carry heavy things he can't by himself, and stronger legs to wrap around him and pull him in :) plus having very strong legs and arms means I can do lots of positions even being a larger woman... I have never run into a problem with a guy feeling emasculated by me :) If I ever intimidate anyone it's with my mind :) I'm a pretty smart fart :) lol
Keeping in mind I am a fuller figured woman, sometimes people don't realize that I am as strong as I actually am. Which sometimes gets on my nerves... I thank God that when I stand up completely straight puff my chest out, if I was in a dark alley, men would not harm me cause trust me one finger on my body I do not want, and it will be off as well as other limbs, appendages, and members of the body..
|
| Would this intimidate you Posted: 10/21/2007 7:15:05 PM | | OP, this wouldn't bother me but as long as your body was not starting to shape like a man. I am attracted to the body of a woman, not a man. Other than that, I wouldn’t feel intimidated by a woman who is physically stronger than me. | |
|
| Would this intimidate you Posted: 10/21/2007 7:43:09 PM | | Lifting weights, what is that? If i want to lift anything, i either get help or fire up the ol' fork lift. | |
|
| Would this intimidate you Posted: 10/21/2007 8:06:21 PM | | I wouldn't ask a girl how much she can press, lift, or otherwise... it's never a bad thing when a woman works out, but that's because it shows you care about fitness and taking care of yourself. Whether you can bench press a car or a cat isn't really going to affect my judgement of someone. | |
|
| Would this intimidate you Posted: 10/21/2007 8:48:53 PM | | The only thing women should lift are pots and pans to make me dinner. Yum! | |
|
| Would this intimidate you Posted: 10/21/2007 8:49:31 PM | | No it wouldnt intimidate me, even if she had some muscle. Now, if she threatens to kick my ass, that might worry me a little bit... | |
|
| Would this intimidate you Posted: 10/21/2007 9:39:47 PM | Actually, I would find that extremely hot! A strong woman who took great care of herself & could push me in the gym...? I am SO there!
My last girlfriend swam competitively in college. At 43, she could run 5 or 6 miles w/ me, we'd hike sometimes 10 or 12, bike 40...it was heaven!
JWR (Oorah, Marine!) makes a good point. Although womem can't typically go head-to-head w/ men in sports requiring primarily upper body strength, they often have much closer parity to men when it comes to lower body strength. Running, skating, biking, equestrian sports...a man can definitely get his *ss kicked by a woman! So don't take it personally guys. Maybe just work a liitle harder.
