| What was the nicest thing anyone ever did for you? Posted: 10/22/2007 1:00:59 AM | I was sitting around, buming out about my ex who had decided to switch camps a couple weeks before when my roomate started asking me why I was so quiet I just said I was tiered for some reason. She just smiled and softly said, " you just rest up" and quietly slipped into her room. A half hour later a mutual friend showed up and told me her sisters car had broke down and asked me if I would come help her out so of course (I`m a mechanic) so I drag myself up off the couch. My roomate asks if she can get a ride and we drive off. The next thing I know were pulling up to one of the local bars she parks and gets out looking around she says "I don`t see her car" my roomate emerges and says "oh she must have figured it out" " lets go in and have a beer".....great.....I`m not into this I think, yet I follow them in. Once inside the otherwise empty bar I am met by a table full of girls, the two I`m with promptly sit at the table with all eyes on me my roomate speaks " we all thought you might need something to get your mind off ____ " All I could do is stand there... the laughter started a couple grabed me and led me to a seat with a couple of drinks waiting ......a few hours later THE EX walks in, and the table erupts, they all crowd around me, behind me, on my arms, in my lap, they chant my name, kisses flying after the shocked look on my face passes, I just get a glimpse of my ex`s blood red face before she grabs her dude and storms out. All the girls begin to cheer except my roomate she`s sitting, her head in her hands smiling away at me.......I met my best friend that night I never paid for a drink (not allowed) I spent the whole night with eleven beautiful girls not one guy allowed at the table .....really burned the ex`s *ss all because of that one girl....people really can have a heart eh? | What was the nicest thing anyone ever did for you? Posted: 10/22/2007 6:25:05 AM | | What a good friend! The best thing anyone ever did for me was my 40th birthday. My birthday falls on Valentines Day so it is a bad day to have a birthday anyway. I got stood up by a date and my best friend and her boyfriend showed up to hang out with me at the bar. She got me a dozen white roses, my favorite! The best birthday I could have ever wanted. Made me realize how very lucky I am to have a friend that stands by me. | |

| What was the nicest thing anyone ever did for you? Posted: 10/22/2007 7:43:59 AM | | Wow, there have been a lot especially by my best friend, but the biggest was probably arranging for me to have an interview at the company she worked for when a position became available and I was very unhappy where I was working. I interviewed and got the job; we still work together 5 years later. | |

| What was the nicest thing anyone ever did for you? Posted: 10/22/2007 8:48:19 AM | I have to laugh about it, since it was actually the ex I had the worst breakup with, and it was during our breakup.
Long convoluted story but in a nutshell, I was devestated and not taking it well, we were living together, but a big bag of crazy all around. She needed time by herself but didn't want to go out so she ended up getting a hold of someone I knew online (argues on forums constantly lol) and asked him to get me out of the house for awhile, etc. surprisingly, he did.
We ended up at some rat-hole of a bar the rest of the night just talking, shooting the bull and actually, launching the seed of our current business venture. Yeah, basically, she unknowingly introduced me to by best friend and also business partner.
Didn't mean it that way, I know, but ended up being the nicest thing done for me.

| What was the nicest thing anyone ever did for you? Posted: 10/22/2007 3:47:41 PM | The nicest thing ever done for me...I bought my home 2-1/2 years ago. After several months of borrowing my sisters lawn mower, my uncle gave me one (a very nice thing to do). I used the darn thing ONCE and it was stolen from my garage. I was sooo ticked! I wrote the chronicle (special column called 'as readers see it'), complaining how I work hard for the items I have and then someone walks off with my *new* mower. Lazy s.o.b's take something that belonged to me b/c they were too lazy to get one the honest way. It was printed.
I was on my porch one day, a couple weeks after this occured, watching a car drive real slow past my house, they were obviously looking for some house in particular. I walked outside and they asked if I was Jill ______. I said yes. The guy said, I have something for you and opens his trunk. Needless to say, I cried tears of joy. I was tired of borrowing my sisters (again) and I had recently lost my job (story of a Michiganders life now-a-days), so purchasing a new mower was a no go. He had a nice mower, all for me . They explained that they recently combined households (newlyweds, new wife was in the car) and they both agreed that they no longer needed two mowers. To top it off? The had $90 worth of work done to it at the local hardware store!! Two years later, I am still grateful to them and their unselfish act of kindness.
THAT was the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me.

| What was the nicest thing anyone ever did for you? Posted: 10/22/2007 5:56:00 PM | It was more than 20 years ago and it was just a little thing but I've never forgotten it for some reason.
At 3AM I was having trouble sleeping due to some really bad heartburn. My girlfriend got up and walked the block to the party store and got some Malox for me. She came back gave it too me and rubbed my back till I went back to sleep.
It was the tiniest thing but it's one of the things I remember about her clearly. She passed away about 10 years ago so I prefer to remember that sort of thing about her.

| What was the nicest thing anyone ever did for you? Posted: 10/22/2007 9:01:03 PM | Just before I came to Canada, my Mum gave me a card from my Grandad, who is a gruff, no-nonsense man not given to displays of affection. He had written inside that he'd have given anything to see the Rockies one last time, but he was too old to fly now, so instead he said he would be thinking of me all the way over here on my big adventure, and he had folded a bunch of $50 notes inside the card to help me along. He's 90 years old now, and I recently sent him a letter with a little piece of Lake Moraine rock in it (a little piece of the Rockies!). He was pleased as punch. Spread the love people! That card meant the world to me. God bless ya Grandad xxx | |

| What was the nicest thing anyone ever did for you? Posted: 10/24/2007 6:28:35 AM | This is a very good question , people seem to always remember the things someone has done to them, and often forgets the nice things done for them. This question makes you stop to think about the good things that others do for you, and that the world still has very good and special loving people. As of late a very sweet person has thought of me, and my partial Cherokee Heritage, and has given me thoughtful gifts . The thought that someone has thought of you, is the gift. | |

| What was the nicest thing anyone ever did for you? Posted: 10/24/2007 8:27:13 AM | My sisters husband gets major snaps this year. He has been so great to me, my ex ran off with a coworker in January and I lived with him and my sister till' I got my own place in the spring. Here is the list of sweet things he has done for me this year:
1. Took me out for wings and a beer the first night my ex had my kids and I was all alone. 2. Gave me his old lawnmower when I got my own house, he showed me how to turn it in on and gave me pointers on mowing. 3. Gave me a power drill and a lesson on how to use it. 4. Called and asked me to go to dinner on my birthday. Told him I was already having a little party at home with the kids and to come on over, the more the merrier. He let out a big sigh and said, "no I'm exausted...I just didn't want you to be lonely on your birthday." 5. Made a Pinewood derby car with my son. Though it was nice for my son, it really made me happy and glad too.
My sister really hit gold when she met him, for him to have extra energy for me during a really a tough time in my life practically brings tears to my eyes. He makes me sure there is a wonderful guy waiting out there for me.
This is a cool thread, I love the positivity.
Best, Amy | |

| What was the nicest thing anyone ever did for you? Posted: 10/24/2007 3:19:03 PM | My birthday just passed. My sis called to wish me happy bday. We talked about the family tradition of picking our flavor of birthday cake when we were kids, a little more chit-chat and goodbye. Before the end of the day I got called to the office. There was sis and my favorite flavor of cupcakes...She lives two states away and thought a nice way to spend her day off would be to suprise me.
That may not be the nicest thing that was ever done for me but anything I can think of would be a similar story. Someone did something nice that they didn't have to do, just to show they cared.

| What was the nicest thing anyone ever did for you? Posted: 10/24/2007 3:20:20 PM | Arbie, that made me smile...My Grandpa had a stroke over a year ago & had to be driven to the hospital near my apt. two hours away. I was there most of every day to be near him. I realize life goes on around us & he understands that I can't be home helping him out w/ the walker & other things that have made him seem so frail. He sent me a $20 bill last week for groceries for the kids & I. We are blessed. | |
