Ads on profile pages, how does this work?

Are the ads that come up next to profiles just random, set by POF to whomever buys the space? Thr reason I ask is becuase I went to look at this one older man`s profile and right next to his head shot was a big ad for Viagara. I started laughing my butt off and wondered if he knew it had popped up there---definitely made an impact! What is the story?

If you want to get rid of Google ads on all websites you visit

There is more than a couple of ways to remove Google syndication ads from the web sites you visit. One approach which i did not try is install AdBlock extension in Firefox and block everything containing 'ads'.
The method i personally use requires GreaseMonkey exntension for Firefox and this script. You can try also this script http://docs.g-blog.net/code/greasemonkey/hide_google_adsense.user.js or check website http://userscripts.org/tag/google
Make sure to block images from *.googlesyndication.* You will see 1 pixel image on many websites with image downloading from http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/imp.gif
Alternatively you can consider using AdBlock extension and filter *googlesyndication* (see menu Tools/AdBlock/Preferencies). AdBlock prevents loading and executing JS in the first place.

Advertising Blockers:

Browsers: Firefox - Ad, Flash & Spam Blockers
Browsers: Internet Explorer - Ad, Flash & Spam Blockers
Internet Explorer: Turn On or Turn Off Play Sounds in Web Pages
Firefox: Turn On or Turn Off Play Sounds in Web Pages
Browsers: Kill off Adobe Flash Audio
Internet Explorer: Turn Off Sound Schemes

Your have the HotBar.com Toolbar installed for Internet Explorer which seems to be launching Advertising, aka. possibly Browser HiJack

How to I Remove HotBar?
You can remove HotBar through Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel, however it leaves behind some tracks that will have to be removed manually. After removing the program through the Add/Remove section, you'll want to run Regedit and remove the following keys in the registry.

HKey_Current_User\Software\Hotbar
HKey_Local_Machine\Software\Hotbar
HKey_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\B195B3B3-8A05-11D3-97A4-0004ACA6948E
HKey_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\User Agent\Post Platform\Hotbar 3.0

You can also delete the 'HotBar 3.0' string from

HKey_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\User Agent

You can also download the Vendor's "Uninstall Program" if your A/V Program cannot remove it, but TrendMicro ( The People that brought you HijackThis ) has labelled it a "Dangerous" Site, so if you can follow the manual Removal Instructions above, do so.

I recommend after you have removed the Toolbar to install and use Firefox Browser with Instant Messenger.

Further, many Add-ons are available for it to block such Malware as shown in the Link below:

You also have the following
Malware on your Computer:
