Anti-farmer attitude

Okay, here it goes. I'm a farmer...I might change occupations if I find that special someone but it seems whenever I meet someone online or in person they right away perceive a negative attitude about my vocation and relate to a pre-established stereotype about those involved in farming. My question is has anyone turned down a guy because of vocation or has anyone else felt the same backlash?? Thanks.

Ifarm and have another job, between them I make over 100,000 a year, but since they are blue collar type jobs I get turned down by alot of women. One time yahoo had a free trial,so I put in one ad that said
Farmer, works odd hours, doesn't meet any women through work and a second ad,,,
Doctor works odd hours, doesn't meet any single women at work, everything else identical in the ad,,received 4 responses for the farmer, plugged the 100 slot mailbox for the doctor in 2 days.
Women who thought the farmer was boring thought the doctor was down to earth for enjoying the same things.

I personally love farmers. I come from a family of farmers and have true respect for all farmers... I'd rather have a man that goes to work and comes home dirty, than the suit and tie type...

Why would anyone put you down for farming? Just think of this way, dear countryboy, those friends or possible dates or possible girlfriends must not have been the type of friends or dates that are meant for you! If they cannot respect you for who you are or what your career choice is, they don't deserve you to call them friend, let alone call them for a date!

Just thought I had to encourage you, hope my 2 cents did.

Well, I guess a lot of women stereotype farmers as old men in over-alls with a pitchfork in their hand...

However, I personally don't ask what a person does for a living because I feel that a job isn't what defines you.

Someone on here told me that your job DOES define you, but that is SO untrue. A lot of people work because they HAVE to, not because they enjoy doing what they do.

Farmers are wonderful people who feed others, however, for some reason I clash with farmers. I just don't go out with farners or country boys. I am a city gal and I tend to like the arts. I like living in the trendy parts of a city.

Actually, some of us are also in the Farming/Ranching industry. I'm not sure that my agricultural occupation has turned guys off, but I definitely would have to do some thinking if a city-slicker wanted to court me.

There's certain things that are just to come expected when someone is in the Ag industry... It's hard to take someone who doesn't understand that, and try and teach them the old ways.

Just make sure your profile is detailed about yourself, and what kind of person you are looking for! That should be a given for any person, in any industry!

I think some of it is unfamiliarity, since farmers are now such a small part of the population. Most people probably have no clue what that life is really like.

I grew up on a small farm, and swore that I would never, ever live on a farm ever again. Now that I'm older though, I do see some of the advantages, and might consider a very small hobby farm in the future.

I also think it's a wonderful family environment. There is really no other way of life in this country where dad, mom and kids can all work side-by-side every day. Every family member has a stake in their livelihood. It promotes a great work ethic, I think.

Keep at it- those wholesome country girls are still out there!
