Pets on beds

I have had a friend visit this afternoon and she brought her dog along ...The bloody thing was casting hairs all over the place...I was very surprised when she said the dog slept on her bed, Ewwwwww...

Now I own 3 dogs myself, but I would never allow any of them to sleep in my room let alone on my bed...Although my youngest son used to have one of them sleep in his room till I put a stop to it, his excuse was it was cruel making him sleep in a kennel outside in the winter as he doesnt have a lot of hair ( Its a Jack Russel).Although they have ample bedding, and havent died from exposure yet..

So if you have pets, cats/dogs or the like, do you allow them to sleep on your bed or in your room..

My dog always tries to jump on my bed
As soon as I wake up, he also sleeps in my bedroom on his own dog blanket, he immediately jumps up on the bed and licks my face until I get up. Then he curls up in the place where I was slept, probably because it is warm. If I shut him out at night when I am going to sleep he cries until I let him in my room. If I go out I usually shut the bedroom door and he isn't bothered if I am not sleeping in there.

i have a staffie, and yes he is allowed on my bed, although he chooses to sleep with the boys on their beds..

he also sits on the sofa..

he does no less damage, nor makes any more mess than my 9 & 10 year old sons! lol

My eldest cat sleeps on my bed - she always has done. When she sees me locking the doors and switching the lights off late at night she shoots straight upstairs and claims her spot I don't mind - she's good company and doesn't snore or hog the quilt All my cats like to sleep on the furniture downstairs so when I' m off out anywhere I have special pet blankets I cover it up with .

It is cruel to put a dog in a kennel especially in the winter.

Why don't you just buy them their own bed (you can even get dog beds in the shape of sofa's now) and put it in your room. Dogs can easily be trained not to jump on the bed. It's mainly the company they crave.

it's not cruel to put a dof to sleep outside if they have been brought up to sleep outside..

i had a dog many years ago that slept outside, even in snow, and he never showed any sign of distress. however, he did grow a much thicker, greasier coat, which was horrible.

I'm with Willow on this, the few times I have let Princess sleep on my bed, I have regretted it in the morning due to her hairs, yuk, and the fact that the big lump ends up with more bed than me, farts for England, and snores like a trooper, infact when I wake up I think I am back with the ex

My dogs have always lived outside, and are very comfortable, they have dog beds and dog quilts etc..

So if you found yourself a partner who was aginst sleeping in the same bed as your pet, what would you do..

I wouldnt fancy sharing a bed with someones dog..

My dogs sleep in the kitchen. I wouldnt want them in my bedroom, in fact they're not allowed upstairs. Kitchens can be cleaned up easily if they have a little 'accident' or if they are sick. Wouldnt want that in my bedroom.

It depends on how big the dog is I spose? We used to have a huge whopping 13 stone rottweiler who wasnt allowed on the beds coz of his immense size and shedding of hairs, altho he was allowed in our rooms on the floor or downstairs on his blanket.

Cats Ive owned over the years have always been allowed on my bed, I love snuggling up with a cat and stroking them on the duvet, its very relaxing and calming :)

If I had a little dinky dog such as a westie, or yorkie or summat then I wouldnt mind but I dont think I'd wanna share my duvet with a dog any bigger than that!!!

I didn't realise you were from Denmark posh.

OT Sharing a bed with a hairy animal, ohhh the very thought, thankfully none of my Ex's could have thought the same.

A dog is a pack animal. If you choose to have a dog as a pet then you also choose to make it part of your "family" (the pack) which can be you and others or just you.
Where you allow your dog to go in YOUR house is entirely up to you. Of course that rule doesn't apply if your dog visits other houses. The rules of the owner of that house must apply.

Afraid my cats sleep on my bed, cant say b-e-d without them purring and running upstairs (had to type b-e-d that way incase they can read to). If they didn't I wouldn't get any peace from them tearing around. They always sleep by my feet though and don't shed that much or maybe that's cos their fur coordinates with my bedding.

my dad lost two siblings by letting Cats sleep with them.

the warmest place on your body is your head..

so the cat could snuggle over your face and suffocate, especially young children.

not good, not sensible.

Many untruths surround cats & newborn babies. Shelters are often asked to take in the family cat because a new baby has arrived & the parents worry about the risk the cat poses to the child.. It is far better for all concerned that future parents educate themselves on this matter.

During my recent pregnancy it was suggested by several well meaning (but uneducated) people that with a baby on the way we would have to get rid of the cats. People still believe the old wives tales about babies being smothered by cats. From research I did on the internet I found out that this is in fact totally untrue. There are cases of parents accidentally smothering their baby, but there are no reported cases of cats doing this (either on purpose or by accident). What has been suggested is that some babies die of SIDS & it so happens that the cat is found in the crib with the dead child. This is merely a coincidence. The cat was NOT the cause of the child's death.

Another urban legend is that cat's suck the baby's breath. Again, untrue. If a cat is found close to the baby's head it's more likely due to the cat seeking some warmth. If the above suggestions are followed, this won't happen.
Ensure your cat is regularly de-flead & de-wormed. Make sure the products you use on your cat are safe to use around the baby. If you are worried about your cat scratching your baby, (which is highly unlikely), you can either regularly trim your cat's claws (see trimming cat's claws), or use Soft Paws, which are plastic caps you glue over your cat's claws.
