| Refusal/acceptance of organ donation due to.. Posted: 10/30/2007 1:42:13 AM | Many people are saved each day due to organ donation. Often they have a life threatening condition or perhaps had some sort of accident that means they now need a donation.
After reading many of the posts on here my question is..would you refuse an organ from someone because of prejudice? As an example..you or someone you loved could get an organ from someone who was gay, transgendered, different ethnic group, different religon, a racist, was sexually prolific, a single mother, a single father, sex offender etc
If you knew in advance..would you refuse or accept? Is it then ok at that point, to accept the gift of life from someone you have been only too happy to shout about when healthy?

I would not have any problem with accepting an organ from whatever background it come from.... just as long as it is human... actually a sheeps heart is just as good... ............

| Refusal/acceptance of organ donation due to.. Posted: 10/30/2007 1:52:05 AM | | Absolutely not! I would accept an organ off any human being regardless of race. I cant imagine anyone refusing - that would be a true definition of racism. | |

| Refusal/acceptance of organ donation due to.. Posted: 10/30/2007 2:32:23 AM | For me it wouldn't matter where or who it came from.
Lets face the facts here , If you need an organ donation its because your organ can't function properly (pretty serious don't you think). So why would anyone worry about whether it came from someone who was good or bad and who are we to judge somebody else anyway.
I'm a organ donor card carrier and as far as I'm concerned they can use whatever they want when I die. How I look at it is you never know what the future holds, one day it might be me who needs a transplant, if no one carries that card then I could die. I'm no expert here , but even if the organ was from a sex offender or a racist or a different religion etc, its a organ , it doesn't mean that you'd turn into the person who donated it. Although I wonder if you would if it was a brain transplant? after all It's the brain that makes the decisions we make.

Of course the bigots would accept said organ/s. Wouldn't they?
There would always be a reason to make it ok. Perhaps remarking on how the donor deserved death and the recipient had a better reason for it's use?
(I am only guessing at the reactions.)

If I needed an organ transplant then I wouldn't care if the organ came from a paedophile or event a serial killer!
At the end of the day, if I have been lucky enough given another chance at life then I should just embrace it

| Refusal/acceptance of organ donation due to.. Posted: 10/30/2007 3:45:04 AM | | It's a very sad world when people would refuse organs due to there origin but i admit i do know of people who would do such a thing...please note i did not say friends.... | |

| Refusal/acceptance of organ donation due to.. Posted: 10/30/2007 3:50:49 AM | I think it would be very interesting to see if the homophobes and racists would accept an organ from someone they blatantly do not like or accept in today's society, would they choose death, I think not, should they be offered an organ from someone who they despise, due to colour or sexual orientation, once again I think not..
Hypocrisy at the highest level..

| Refusal/acceptance of organ donation due to.. Posted: 10/30/2007 3:56:01 AM | | If i was to lose my legs in an accident i'd quite happily accept the donation of a new pair from a Gay Black man. Then i'd get myself down to the nearest discotheque, dance my ass off and approach women in a seemingly non-threatening manner. | |

| Refusal/acceptance of organ donation due to.. Posted: 10/30/2007 4:06:19 AM | Are people actually told here where the organ comes from??
In most states in the US I think the donor or family of the donor has the option to give information to the recipient but in most cases that type of information is withheld. So how would the recipient know?
Personally I think that's just stuipd but on the other hand, someone who has the beliefs - well do I really want them around anyway?

| Refusal/acceptance of organ donation due to.. Posted: 10/30/2007 4:16:45 AM | i was under the impression that the organ donor's identity, unless a parent or family member, was kept confidential?
and even if it wasn't, their sexuality wouldn't be disclosed anyway...
but to answer the question, if i was to know the details, no i wouldn't refuse....unless i found out they were from grimsby

| Refusal/acceptance of organ donation due to.. Posted: 10/30/2007 8:15:42 AM | No I would be happy to accept anyones organs!! Now don't be rude!!
I carry an organ donor card but I think I am the only one in my family who does! My cousin died a few years ago waiting on a heart and lung transplant.
When my boyfriend died his family donated any organ the hospital could use. So at least there are some people who have benefitted from the loss.

| Refusal/acceptance of organ donation due to.. Posted: 10/31/2007 2:06:46 AM | Perhaps the recipient might just have an epiphany.... Maybe they might just see the error of their ways and become a lover of all humankind and it's diversity...
More likely they'd try and keep the origin of the organ they received secret and go back to Black/gay/ whatever bashing without a thought...
Me? I don't think I would care at all where the organ came from. I would just be eternally grateful to the person/family who were brave enough to donate....

| Refusal/acceptance of organ donation due to.. Posted: 10/31/2007 3:44:24 AM | I would.
Not because I have a problem with anyones lifestyle choices, and as far as I know organs do not come in different colours...
I just find the whole idea of a transplant utterly repugnant..
We all have to die at some time, and I would rather die of organ failure than live on with a dead persons bits inside me.

| Refusal/acceptance of organ donation due to.. Posted: 10/31/2007 4:16:39 AM | ^^ I dont agree in 'its our time to die' nonsense, if they can medically extend my life longer by adding a few bits and pieces of someone else in me, i'd happily jump on the table!
I honestly wouldnt mind who's parts it was. I'd just be grateful to have a few more years alive.

| Refusal/acceptance of organ donation due to.. Posted: 11/11/2007 9:57:27 AM | | i used to think the same thing but when one of your family needs an organ you dont care where it comes from. 18 years ago my dad needed a kidney and i was not able to give him one of mine because i only have one fully functioning kidney. It was sad that the kidney dad had came from a young motorcyclist who had been killed but dad came home that was what mattered to us. after that i went on the donor register it really is a good thing to do. | |
