From the Desk of Donald Rumsfeld . . . In Sometimes-Brusque 'Snowflakes,' He Shared Worldview, Shaped Policy
By Robin Wright Washington Post Staff Writer Thursday, November 1, 2007; A01
[bIn a series of internal musings and memos to his staff, then-Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld argued that Muslims avoid "physical labor" and wrote of the need to "keep elevating the threat," "link Iraq to Iran" and develop "bumper sticker statements" to rally public support for an increasingly unpopular war.
The memos, often referred to as "snowflakes," shed light on Rumsfeld's brusque management style and on his efforts to address key challenges during his tenure as Pentagon chief. Spanning from 2002 to shortly after his resignation following the 2006 congressional elections, a sampling of his trademark missives obtained yesterday reveals a defense secretary disdainful of media criticism and driven to reshape public opinion of the Iraq war.
Here are the highlights of the memos:
1. Let the propaganda machines run well.
Under siege in April 2006, when a series of retired generals denounced him and called for his resignation in newspaper op-ed pieces, Rumsfeld produced a memo after a conference call with military analysts. "Talk about Somalia, the Philippines, etc. Make the American people realize they are surrounded in the world by violent extremists," he wrote.
2. Bully other nations
In a memo to national security adviser Stephen J. Hadley in July 2006, Rumsfeld warned that the United States is "getting run out of Central Asia" by the Russians, who are doing a "considerably better job at bullying" than Washington is doing to "counter their bullying."

| A nation terrorized.... Posted: 11/1/2007 9:08:10 PM | another article that shows how orchestrated the iraq war was!
things just didn't happen, they were set in motion and if the messenger didn't fit the message (eg, joe wilson, general john abizaid, general george casey) they were replaced or smeared, this administration had an agenda, 9/11 was just an excuse to do what was already on the table…
but even with proof, like this article, hell, if there was a signed confession (obtained without waterboarding) that this administration created the climate AND "necessity" for the iraq war, there would always be a group of neocons that would deny it…
this administration has taken “control the fear, control the person” to a new level-

For the love of God I wish they would not ruin my life like that. Wahh Wahh Wahh Please save me from the bumper stickers it is absolute terrorism; how on Earth can they call flying a 747 after cutting people up with razor blades and killing 6000 people terrorism when I have to deal with "snow flakes" also known as bumper stickers.

(By the way, nice job of lending credibility to your side of the debate. )

Prepare to get flamed by right wing loonies. - It doesn't bother me at all if they get flamed especially by facts and truth. It further implies that people are blind-folded by the government, media as well as their own restricted viewpoints.

I know what you are talking about I seen a bumper sticker today and it is terrozing my life. - Still unaware of what terrorizing means.
For the love of God I wish they would not ruin my life like that. Wahh Wahh Wahh Please save me from the bumper stickers it is absolute terrorism; - And still unaware of what terrorizes him.
how on Earth can they call flying a 747 after cutting people up with razor blades and killing 6000 people terrorism when I have to deal with "snow flakes" also known as bumper stickers. - Got proof of who "they" were? No - Ever seen any evidence of it shown by the government? No - Hmmm. I wonder if the pilot was someone like you. - The US government has terrorized millions of people all over the world. Let's not forget Hiroshima 140000, around 80000 civilians in Iraq and countless number of people in Afghanistan. I wonder who the real terrorist is.

| A nation terrorized.... Posted: 11/2/2007 1:10:45 PM | Passionate,
I really don't care....You do what you have to do; I will do what I have to do. You support your leader and your country and I will support mine.
I know that you think that the US is brianwashed by its leaders but maybe Canadians are also brainwashed by it's leaders.
The US is going to be killing a whole lot of poeple in the middle east and I think that if someone had a problem with it they would have said something.
Also, do you really have proof that the US dropped a nuclear bomb? Maybe it is false and it is just propaganda to make it look like there is such a thing as a nuclear bomb when in fact there isn't such a thing...(there have at a taste of your own medicine)

| A nation terrorized.... Posted: 11/3/2007 4:19:52 AM | | Does anybody ever post an original thought or opinion when beginning a thread anymore. Or do we continue to have to debate over a website topic that any of us can find with our own souped up search engine. Cmon folks. Some of us are here to exchange dialog with real people who have real ideas, thoughts and opinions that we'd like to hear and respond to. This isn't some my googling is better than your googling drag race for crying out loud. Jeez. | |

I get very bored reading anything that has been copied or pasted, not to mention I have a very bad attention disorder. I particularly hate it when someone post a mountain of copy and pasted info. I more often ignore the whole post and move on to the next.

| A nation terrorized.... Posted: 11/30/2007 3:30:43 AM | Anything and all that happens in the world today is all pre-planned to happen that way. From the CIA (CFR) ordered JFK killing to 911. It is all geared to scare people into accepting these new freedom removing laws to protect you from so called terrorists. Problem is, the terrorists are sitting at the round tables in our so called democratic governments of the world. Planning out their next move to suppress more freedoms, to bring more terror, and to scare us all into accepting their way as the only way....problem is, people are waking up real quick to this scam and they are the ones now getting scared. You see, there is more of us wanting freedom, them of them wanting to take it away. Rise up, take back what is yours. YOUR FREEDOMS AND RIGHTS. No government agency is going to do that for you, neither is your neighbors, or your teachers, or employers. Don't be such followers, be leaders. WAKE UP, RISE UP and TAKE IT BACK. | |

| A nation terrorized.... Posted: 11/30/2007 6:50:09 AM | For your amusement and future reference, here's what Bush has said about bin Laden at various points in time, depending on how he was trying to spin things:
"The most important thing is for us to find Osama bin Laden. It is our number one priority and we will not rest until we find him." - G.W. Bush, 9/13/01
"I want justice...There's an old poster out West, as I recall, that said, 'Wanted: Dead or Alive,'" - G.W. Bush, 9/17/01, UPI
"...Secondly, he is not escaping us. This is a guy, who, three months ago, was in control of a county [sic]. Now he's maybe in control of a cave. He's on the run. Listen, a while ago I said to the American people, our objective is more than bin Laden. But one of the things for certain is we're going to get him running and keep him running, and bring him to justice. And that's what's happening. He's on the run, if he's running at all. So we don't know whether he's in cave with the door shut, or a cave with the door open -- we just don't know...." - Bush, in remarks in a Press Availablity with the Press Travel Pool, The Prairie Chapel Ranch, Crawford TX, 12/28/01, as reported on official White House site
"I don't know where bin Laden is. I have no idea and really don't care. It's not that important. It's not our priority." - G.W. Bush, 3/13/02
"I am truly not that concerned about him." - G.W. Bush, repsonding to a question about bin Laden's whereabouts, 3/13/02 (The New American, 4/8/02)
so what happened between 9/01 and 3/02 to make OBL go from number one priority to no priority? Oh yeah the war had started.

- Re-read the post. It is not Rob wright's statements. It is excerpts of the memo from a government who has been involved in lots of terroristic activities including:
1. Funding radical mujhaideen in Afghanistan during Soviet Union, whose big shot was Osama Bin Laudin
2. Using nuclear weapons on humans.
3. Invading other countries, such as AFghanistan and Iraq and killing innocent men, women and c hildren.
4. Stealing and exploiting the wealth of other nations.
- It makes ya think who the real terrorist is.

All of this has been known about and accepted as fact by many of us outside of the US for a very long time? Can these really still be debatable point in that country?

| A nation terrorized.... Posted: 12/5/2007 11:46:40 AM | Funny thing is that every single country that the US has bombed and destroted was rebuilt and stronger than before the US bombed them. If want to better your nation just have the US invade it. Japan was completly rebuilt by the US along with Gemany. The US gives everything it has to better Iraq and Afganistan including the lives of our people.
The US has never stolen anything but the land where it sits from the American Indians.
What has Canada or Scottland given to the world? What country has Canada completley rebuilt. Did Scottland ever save Europe from and evel dictator? Who stopped ethnic cleansing in Europe, was it a Canadian? Who saved the poeple of Kuwait? No it wasn't those people outside the US. It has always ben the US becaue here in the US we have more than just our mouths.

| A nation terrorized.... Posted: 12/5/2007 1:44:02 PM | | Scottish soldiers have given far more than just their mouths and for far longer than any current wars. Since the clearances of the seventeen hundreds when genocide was practiced on the people of the highlands and thousands were sent off in boats to practice genocide on the native people of America, Scottish soldiers have served on the front line to build what was the Brittish Empire and then in two world wars and every major conflict since. First because they were expendable and then just because they were that good. Remember who your country's allies are. Which means that our young men are dying right beside your's. Does that not give us the right to question or state our point of view? | |

Why would you come out and say other countries have never done anything of use? Are you a world history major? Canada was in both world wars before the US and played integral parts in winning them. Maybe you should take some pride in our country without being so degrading to others. ihaveaname4you makes me sad to be an American

| A nation terrorized.... Posted: 12/5/2007 5:00:25 PM | The Federal Reserve international bankers want war, because no country can afford to go to war, so with that being said, both sides have to borrow money from the World Bankers to fund their wars, this drives each country deeper and deeper into debt. Since president Woodrow Wilson sold out the Americans to the Federal reserve in 1913, the 50 million dollar debt has risen to trillions. This will never be paid back, and will only keep the citizens enslaved by way of illegal taxation on the fruits of their labor by a corrupt taxation system. Most countries are set up this way today. Look at all the wars since these bankers have taken over numerous countries worldwide. Those that are not controlled are listed as the Axis of Evil states. You see, they have money, oil and natural resources and do not require the international bankers. So to be able to bring forth a One World Government, you have to have a full 100% control of every country on the planet. There are only 5 countries left that fall under this category of non-control. Can you guess which ones they are? The Media talks of them almost daily in one way or another... | |

Haha, are you serious? For starters Canada and Scottland (sic) have given the world proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, clarity of thought, proper usage of past and present tense, as well as a touch of humility and humour.

Although I may feel much comfort in hearing the bag pipes on the battle field Rest assured if they were true Scot I wouldn't understand a word they say, But I would help drink their rations.
edit: perhaps it is the amount of a good Highland water consumed that makes them understandable.
Oh yeah America and the Revolutionary war were fought in large part based on taxation of American made Highland water made by Scots and yes though it hurts to say the Irish also.

We really don't have any use for all that in the US excpet for gay urban areas. I beliece we call them dandies here in the states. Sure Oscar Wilde was a great writer but also a little light in the loafers.
