| What Tree Are You? Posted: 11/3/2007 9:46:13 AM | | I received an email from my ex mother-in-law asking just this question and although the answers were determined by date of birth and followed by an in depth reading of the personalities of the trees themselves I thought it might be fun to change the rules a bit and ask the writers of the pond this same question. Please answer in poetic form in any style you chose and have fun. This is the season of autumn and the trees themselves are in their final glory. This is just for fun! | |

| What Tree Are You? Posted: 11/3/2007 9:52:38 AM | In taking the quiz I found myself to fall under the apple tree although personally I might have chosen a different tree myself to write on.
Apple Tree (Love) -- quiet and shy at times, lots of charm, appeal, And attraction, pleasant attitude, flirtatious smile, adventurous, sensitive, loyal in love, wants to love and be loved, faithful and tender partner, very generous, many talents, loves children, needs affectionate partner.

| What Tree Are You? Posted: 11/3/2007 9:55:08 AM | If I were a tree, I'd be an ash hard enough for wagon wheel spokes at least that would explain my bat please, no louisville slugger jokes | |
|
| What Tree Are You? Posted: 11/3/2007 10:07:28 AM | Ash Tree (Ambition) -- extremely attractive, vivacious, impulsive, demanding, does not care for criticism, ambitious, intelligent, talented, likes to play with fate, can be very egotistic, reliable, restless lover, sometimes money rules over the heart, demands attention, needs love and much emotional support.
Now don't take this personally BD but I did look up the Ash Tree in the definitions and the above is what they say it means. I like yours better "Slugger" *grin*

| What Tree Are You? Posted: 11/3/2007 10:37:15 AM | "The Stolen Branch" By Pablo Neruda
In the night we shall go in to steal a flowering branch.
We shall climb over the wall in the darkness of the alien garden, two shadows in the shadow.
Winter is not yet gone, and the apple tree appears suddenly changed into a cascade of fragrant stars.
In the night we shall go in up to its trembling firmament, and your little hands and mine will steal the stars.
And silently, to our house, in the night and the shadow, with your steps will enter perfume's silent step and with starry feet the clear body of spring.

| What Tree Are You? Posted: 11/3/2007 10:41:14 AM | THE TWO TREES
by: William Butler Yeats (1865-1939)
ELOVED, gaze in thine own heart, The holy tree is growing there; From joy the holy branches start, And all the trembling flowers they bear. The changing colours of its fruit Have dowered the stars with merry light; The surety of its hidden root Has planted quiet in the night; The shaking of its leafy head Has given the waves their melody, And made my lips and music wed, Murmuring a wizard song for thee. There the Loves a circle go, The flaming circle of our days, Gyring, spiring to and fro In those great ignorant leafy ways; Remembering all that shaken hair And how the wingèd sandals dart, Thine eyes grow full of tender care: Beloved, gaze in thine own heart. Gaze no more in the bitter glass The demons, with their subtle guile, Lift up before us when they pass, Or only gaze a little while; For there a fatal image grows That the stormy night receives, Roots half hidden under snows, Broken boughs and blackened leaves. For all things turn to barrenness In the dim glass the demons hold, The glass of outer weariness, Made when God slept in times of old. There, through the broken branches, go The ravens of unresting thought; Flying, crying, to and fro, Cruel claw and hungry throat, Or else they stand and sniff the wind, And shake their ragged wings; alas! Thy tender eyes grow all unkind: Gaze no more in the bitter glass.

I would be a basswood by Random Entry
I would be a basswood if ever I could for my leaves would tickle your knees and my pollen would make you sneeze
I would be a basswood if ever I could I say I'm ready to be carved in the light of day And few know I can go by American Linden, too for I'm most unappreciated just like you!
I would be a basswood if ever I could say, love Not so bloody good I will grow in time For in the country England I am known as the lime

| What Tree Are You? Posted: 11/3/2007 11:28:23 AM | The Chestnut
Trees our passageway through life As markers be it told From whence we came Long branches point the way Between the pages Of our foolishness Yet As friends they comfort now Drawing our spirit upon the earth As paintings from the lessons lost In ancient scribes In ochre hue Upon cave walls Their message fresh In seed and budding flower Travelling across our destiny May it be shown Our final resting place Beneath the tree that once Housed our dreams and muse We laid our babies at their feet Leaned our tired bodies against cool bark To sleep or read in quiet contemplation Our journey’s end or perhaps its beginning I bow to the dainty birch in golden garb She dances in the wind outside my house Beside her lives the maple In harmony they abide in peace Mixing the reds and yellows into my love If I was to fall from just one tree May it be the chestnut which houses my fascination still Strong and deep it watched Me grow from first kiss and hapless love to the last breath of autumns splendor Inside the seed so rich It stands still to tell the story.

| What Tree Are You? Posted: 11/3/2007 11:32:49 AM | Thank you Random Entry and the following is just for fun not to be taken seriously...
Lime Tree (Doubt) - intelligent, hard working, accepts what life dishes out, but not before trying to change bad circumstances into good ones, hates fighting and stress, enjoys getaway vacations, may appear tough, but is actually soft and relenting, always willing to make sacrifices for family and friends, has many talents but not always enough time to use them, great leadership qualities, is jealous at times but extremely loyal.

| What Tree Are You? Posted: 11/3/2007 11:33:08 AM | well, I wouldn't be Pine Too soft, stays green forever... sappy too. I wouldn't be Maple, Too hard, although colourful at times... Hmmm Cedar, interesting! long lasting, resilient, yet toxic and boring. Oaks, well, there's a few different colours that stand alone, but naw, too typical, besides, who wants to stand on corners all their lives. Walnut, well now there's a tree that likes to throw rocks. Poplars, um, yeah, if you like tall slim numbers, and they seldom pick up after themselves. Ash, ok, it's nice, and tends to mean well (like good luck) but so does Hickory, and they tend to axe a lot. ( sons initials, btw) Bonzi's, cute, but too short. Blossom Cherries, mmmm, very pretty! And quite romantic! But naw, they fall when things get rough. Ebony, no, who wants to be stuck on an Island. Purpleheart, now there's a tree that likes to give, splinters that is. Holly, naw, too white. Rosewood, yes, Brazilian Rosewood (although I have no clue what the tree looks like) the smell, colour, richness of the inside, durability, works well for me ok, the yield's not great, we're rare and expensive, like diamonds in the rough but we like to be amongst other trees and don't consider ourselves, exotic but hey, if I could be a giver, like every tree, I'd be A Brazilian Rosewood | |

| What Tree Are You? Posted: 11/3/2007 11:49:40 AM | I don't know what tree I am but if I could choose....Pernambuco because it's used to make violin bows. (Nice thread AF).
Pernambuco endangered the weeping violin silent
|
| What Tree Are You? Posted: 11/3/2007 11:57:58 AM | I should have guessed Om that you would pick a tree that is not in the list. *grin* Unique like you!
One of nature's most beautiful materials for making the classical guitar. Dalbergia nigra (that's the botanical name for Brazilian rosewood) an endangered species of trees that hopefully will be saved from extinction.

| What Tree Are You? Posted: 11/3/2007 12:04:25 PM | Brazilwood or Pau-Brasil, sometimes known as Pernambuco (Caesalpinia echinata syn. Guilandina echinata (Lam.) Spreng.) is a Brazilian timber tree. This plant has a dense, orange-red wood (which takes a high shine), and it is the premier wood used for making bows for string instruments from the violin family. The wood also yields a red dye called brazilin, which oxidizes to brazilein.
Yup that is a perfect tree for you as an artist SR and thank you I think it is a thread that has many possibilities and hopefully it will inspire some creativity.

| What Tree Are You? Posted: 11/3/2007 12:11:21 PM | The Willow
The willow weeping branches in sorrow Weeping and crying for the sad tomorrow Branches bent down and stooping low Cast a shade below the sun's bright glow Roots running long and just below earth It can sense sorrow and taste sweet mirth It has a history it has a long magical past Dark times has the Willow last During yester years it's magic was noted During moonlight dances it's branches floated Leaves danced to the sound of gypsy drums Drunken orges went on as the fiddle strums Spring would come and buds would ripen Willow flowers for a while would suddenly brighten Bright green leaves would brust forth and suddenly sing With the whistle of the wind bells would ring Lovers gave the tree a cautious wide birth It's dark mysteries of the planet earth It was not a tree to carve on your name It's bark would not allow such mortal shame The architecture of the willow, its sculptured form Its crown of leaves for a while adorn During summer days it has a crowning glory But autumn nights tell a different story Fairies dance around the base of the willow Not all fairies are cheeful and mellow Spirits are known to guard this ancient tree From human beings like you and me Treat the hallowed ground with just regard And during the still of night listen for the bard His somber songs and the chords of the lute As he plays along to the "Auld Orange Flute"

| What Tree Are You? Posted: 11/3/2007 12:15:52 PM | Thank you Bird on the wire that was beautiful!
Weeping Willow (Melancholy) - likes to be stress free, loves family life, full of hopes and dreams, attractive, very empathetic, loves anything beautiful, musically inclined, loves to travel to exotic places, restless, capricious, honest, can be influenced but is not easy to live with when pressured, sometimes demanding, good intuition, suffers in love until they find that one loyal, steadfast partner; loves to make others laugh.
Om like you once said "Anything Goes" *grin* including totems LOL

| What Tree Are You? Posted: 11/3/2007 12:41:22 PM | I AM THE YEW TREE.
Low bows the church Yew tree Guarding those who have passed away Gnarled servant of known longevity Sacred in transformation’s play
Beloved, this tree of Hecate’s fame Prosperous in its magical property Working in service to a God’s good name A servant for God and all humanity
The lonely sound of a church bell ringing Haunts the churchyards on darkened nights The wind sets the Yew Tree singing And round its base are dancing sprites
The creaking branches warn the bad The body-snatchers and the leper-bell Those who sleep are safe and glad Those who harm will go straight to hell.
|
| What Tree Are You? Posted: 11/3/2007 12:55:42 PM | The yew is often found in churchyards from England and Ireland to Galicia; some of these trees are exceptionally large (over 3 m diameter) and may be up to 2,000 years old, though few if any predate the churches they are beside. Many believe that the enormous sacred evergreen at the Temple at Uppsala was a yew. The Christian church commonly found it expedient to take over these existing sacred sites for churches. It is sometimes suggested that these were planted as a symbol of long life or trees of death. An explanation that the yews were planted to discourage farmers and drovers from letting their animals wander into the burial grounds, with the poisonous foliage being the disincentive, may be intentionally prosaic.
A good match to your poem and a toast to long life. Cheers Star Poet

| What Tree Are You? Posted: 11/3/2007 1:29:43 PM | Thank you, Poetess... In astrology; the Yew Tree is connected to the planet Pluto, the planet which symbolises transformation, to become 'Changed', to end so that a new beginning is re-birthed. Pluto is the ruling planet of Scorpio.
The Yew was also used to make the famous English 'Longbows', a 'Death-Clout'.

Drea if a shady elm is what you wish to be then so be it. I can see you sitting beneath the elm.
Elm Tree (Noble-mindedness ) -- pleasant shape, tasteful clothes, Modest demands, tends not to forgive mistakes, cheerful, likes to lead but Not to obey, honest and faithful partner, likes making decisions for others, noble-minded, generous, good sense of humour, practical.
Candi apple a coconut tree it is and welcome.
