Is the nick name important?

How did you choose your nick name? Is it important to attract a potential Friend/Date/Partner ...?
Do you think the nick name say's something about that person?
When I created my profile, I infact took quite long to find a name - mine is actually a name of a book, which I have been given but never came around to read. I choose it only because it was in sight when I was thinking about which name to use and this title did somehow fit.

How much do you take in account the nick name in your consideration of contacting a person? What would be the percentage of "age - looks - profile description - nick name" in your decision to contact someone?

I guess mine would be "10 - 30 - 30 - 30"

I gave 30% to a persons nick name as I exclude some names with certain words in it - is it just me or is there anybody else who does this?

Is the nick name important?

While I did put a lot of thought into my name, I don't assume others did the same. I also try not to assume a meaning to another's name because without actually knowing what they were thinking when they picked it, I can't truly know what they meant.
If your going to make a lot of assumptions about a person you've never met, I think your going to be disappointed a lot as people are not always what they seem at first glance/read.
I suggest you try to remain open and just treat the whole profile thing as a contact point only. You may find your one and only has a lousy pic up, but that's the only one he cared to post. Possibly he can't write a profile to save his life, but he's the kindest man you'll ever know. Even age; I only consider that a factor because I would not date anyone in my children's age group, that is a personal preference.
As this is not real life I don't think it's wise to give anything on here as much credence as you would to a real meet in person.
I always keep in mind the old adage, 'Don't judge a book by it's cover'.

Hope this helps.

OP: FYI, there's a thread somewhere around here asking what the heck does "zest for life" really mean anyway? It's one of those catchphrases one sees in many profiles.

P.S. - I chose mine simply on the basis that its initials are LoL!

I don't normally care what the nic is unless it has 69, triple x's or other related words in it. :/

Nicknames aren't terribly important to me but some are intriguing.

['Don't judge a book by it's cover']

I think you have a good point - I might be too judgemental in this case. That's exactely what I don't want to be.

Mine is my first name and the year I was born. My nickname is "Jody" from my middle name of Jo .

I don't mind certain people calling me Jo or Jody.

Glad you explained. It initially came across as an imperative, one with dubious overtones at that, just so you know.

I think, yet, that mom already got "poked," or at least "boinked."

I don't think a nickname is very important. Sometimes I pick a random username/password based upon the first word I hear on the TV. You can spend a long time thinking of one otherwise and it'll not be available.

In my current case, however, mikeilike is an old childhood nickname my grandfather gave me.

I dont find them of much importance, but some do intrigue. I am a simple man, and not good on remembering 12 different usernames. So mine is the same for most everything. I am not just a redneck. I am the king redneck. lol. I somehow expect someone to say something about winning the Special olympics, and still being a retard.

Hmm, not really, no. Nicknames won't typically mean anything unless the name is some type of advertisement, like hotsex69, then I'll typically ignore them.

I think the biggest turn OFF for me on any of the PoF profiles I've run across are spelling errors. Forums are one thing - we type away madly to get our post out. However, when we create a profile to represent ourselves, shouldn't we want to make it look appealing? My immediate thought upon reading a profile with many misspelled words is "I can't read this, this person is an idiot." End of story.

Same with run-on sentences and a lack of any type of capitalization. Oh, lest we forget, the all too common all caps descriptions: SUMTHNG LIKE THIS DO U LIKE ME I THINK I R PRETY.

So, I suppose I start out with looks - make it to at least halfway decent and I move on to profile facts (or fictions) and then on to what they wrote about themselves. I'd put the weight at about 30 (looks) - 25 (PoF facts) - 45 (description). But the nickname will not typically have any weight at all.

And my nickname, I think, is fairly obvious. Since I'm Jim, I thought playing on Jihad would be rather comical and stand out.

Nick names can say things about us. When I see a funny nickname I want to get to know the person behind it. I want to know the personality behind the name. Our personalities help us choose our online name.

My nickname is boring.
I must be boring.

It's not really that important, but it can often mean something to the one that choose the handle.

For example: I choose Jammer because I love to write original & alternative instrumentals (not bluegrass nor country) on my banjo. In fact, I get some airplay, and jamming happens to be a love of my life. Next I added the zip code to where I live because it is very hard to find singles out here in the sticks where I live. Thus my handle: Jammer40351.

Normally, I don't give any consideration to someone's screen name. Then again, sometimes, it says a great deal about the person. If your screen name is MomOf6, then that may give me pause. So would ImaHore, or GodComesFirst. People that choose names like that, tend to be making statements about who they are. For the vast majority of us though, I don't find that to be the case.

I picked mine because I couldn't come up with anything better. I dunno. I like trees, and it sounds nice.
