Curious, how many women know how to cook!

I know how to cook but I am just wondering how many women do also. I know that time has changed over the years with prepared meal from fast food to microwave instants.
Just wondering who knows how and your age. You don't have to have recipes memorized but that is great if you do but I am just looking for those that really can cook by looking at a recipe from scratch or something they have in a cook book.

I was going to ask the same about sewing, I sort of know the answer to that one.

Thanks,
Marcus

That is awesome Malley. I am impressed.
When I cook I clean at the same time. By the time I have the dish or supper done I have the kitchen clean. I always clean up before I sit down to eat. I have never been one to clean after eating, but if I clean before I eat I can enjoy the rest.

I know how to cook and bake. I can somewhat throw something together and it be eatable. It may not taste fantastic but it's doable. :)

I am 36 and I love to cook, have tons of recipes in my head and I change them all the time when I get bored. With most of the things I make I can tell people how to do it but could never tell them how much of anything. I don't measure lol

I guess I should have been a little more descriptive. I look at cooking encompassing baking as a part of it. My bad. But I think its interesting how this seems to be splitting into 2 different things. Very interesting.
I just assumed is all. So with that, I will guess that some do baking but not cook and vice versa. I would still count either one as the ability to cook.

Well, baking is an exact science while cooking is throwing stuff together in a pot to make it taste good, so I DO see a difference. I know a LOT of good cooks who cannot bake.

I cook: some things well, some things not so well. But I have to be in the mood, and I have to have someone to cook FOR. (Please delete my post for "self-pity" )

I bake: a few things really well, and then crash and burn (literally) the others

In high school I went to tech school for Culinary. I absolutely LOVE it. (I mean come on my dad had me making him breakfast since I was 8 yearsold.) If you know how to follow directions, you know how to cook, regardless of what you think.
There isnt one I like more, cooking or baking, I love to do both. Im starting to get into sewing (I blame my latest job.... I used to work at a fabric store). My grandmother got me a brand new sewing machine and I was just taught how to work it on this past Saturday, now I just need to find the time lol.

Im 33 and cant cook!
I used to be able to kind of then, circumstances changed and i ended up living back at home.
I think i sort of forgot and in comparison anythin i can throw together isnt as good as what anyone else can make in my house and noone will eat my food after givin them food poisonin heatin up a crispy pancake last week!
Im not totally rubbish! I make nice toast and if i have to feed myself then i can make it with a variety of topings and im good at makin microwave meals i can heat up stir frys and stuff out of bag.
If you mean cook from scratch then no, even if i follow instructions its a goner!
If its up to me to make anythin i have take away and i eat out alot.
All the men ive dated can cook though and if i was livin on my own or somethin i know id have to re learn im not totally lazy i guess at the moment it just isnt a priority lol
As for sewing, well i can sew!
I cant knit or darn or anythin fancy but i have respect for my stuff so it anythin needs repairin i will do it!

Sure, I know how to cook. I like to eat good food and control whats going into my body. :)

My specialty cuisines are northern Indian and Japanese. I've just begun experimenting with Italian and its so easy! Love it so far. Mario has some great recipes.

I can bake, but thats a lot harder than cooking. Pies are a breeze, but I've yet to make a decent souffle. :( Thankfully I have employees who will eat my baked creations. I can't keep pie in my home without inhaling it. :(

What I hate about cooking is cleaning. I HATE washing dishes. It is not zen, it is not calming, it is gross. I'll happily cook for a man who will do the bloody dishes. Bleh.

Oh, the age...I'm 30.

edit: Sew? Nope, can't sew at all. I can knit and crochet..does that count? *lol*

I believe that I am quite good at both cooking and baking. I own several cookbooks, and am always in the market for more.

I also love men who cook. Preparing a dinner for two with a loved one is great fun.

I am not good at cooking at all. It is something on my 'to learn' list though. I'd like to learn proper cooking and also baking. One day...

I can cook, but I don't do much if it is just myself. I need a recipe for most things. When I do cook, I do cook from scratch. I never use stuff like cans of cream of mushroom soup, Velveeta, bisquick, etc.

I enjoy baking. I usually bring my baked good to work to share. I always bake from scratch. It's much cheaper, and I can control the quality of ingredients.

I am 35. I can't sew.

Ya I don't have many recipes myself. I do have a bunch of cook books. The only things I have been making are stews, shortbread, and biscotti. Simple stuff I know. During summer I make a mean burger with a ton of sides.
I have been debating on cooking thanksgiving dinner, don't have family or friends to cook for so I am not sure if I want to do it or not. I am sure my roommate would love it! I haven't made a big dinner before, think I might try my hand with some duck and rice. Mom has a killer recipe!
Guess it would be better to murder one person with my creation vs. a whole family!

I love to bake! Especially deserts and breads (which is why I don't want to date those on any Atkins-based diet). I also do different entrees and things in the oven....cornish hens, stuffed peppers, twice-baked potatoes, whatever.

I only cook very basic things....eggs, grilled cheese, soup, quick veggies or meat. The most complicated things would be deserts involving stovetop cooking.

You should actually split this into 3 categories....What about cooking on the grill?

In the summer I do basic things on the grill, like lamb steaks, fish, chicken, asparagus, green beans, and s'mores!

Grill is rather simple I think. Same with camp cooking. I can camp cook like no one business! Done that enough over the years I have it down pretty good, it also helps that the campers are so hungry they will eat anything!

I will have to agree there are some other things you just can’t do in a kitchen like you can with a grill. At least I haven’t been able to.

I cook AND I sew!!!!
Okay, I'm gonna brag a bit here. (Also knit, too)
I love to cook. I especially like cooking with someone (especially a date)
I love to can - remember that? Tomatoes, applesauce, jam...
I make the big feasts and the nicer dishes - I make a mean beef stroganoff. Those are my favorite.
I cook for regular dinner - its not as easy for me - but I've got a few strategies. I made all my kids baby food. And my kids sing my praises about their dinner - they LOVE my meatloaf. And I can cook over a campfire! I LOVE reading cookbooks - it's usually my pathetic answer to "what books have you read lately?" Uhhhhh...
I sew, too!
I made all the curtains and drapes in my house. And my kids halloween costumes - Pebbles and Bam bam, jackolantern, king and flying vampire bat . I've made some clothes for us. I used to do civil war reenacting so I sewed my X 's shirts, my shirts and skirts and yes, I HAVE made a corset. I knit sweaters, blankets, all sizes.
Sometimes I feel too old fashioned, because not many people (at least my way) have these skills. But I like doing it and it makes me proud that I can do these things for my family.

Hey POF ladies - sounds like we need to have a Stitch 'N Bitch - who's in?
That's what those silly web cams are for, eh?

They're pretty simple. You just bake a potato, slice it in half, scoop out the innards without piercing the skin, mix the innards with a variety of things (seasoning, milk, bacon, cheese, chives, etc.), plop them back into the skins, top them with cheese then bake for another 10 - 15 minutes. I can't eat stuff like that without blowing up, but they are tasty. :)
