| 50ish clubbing??? Posted: 11/16/2007 7:14:31 PM | Well, I've been reading some of the postings and it seems some of you are ready to be measured for caskets and are sitting at home on Saturday night composing words of whit for your headstones.
I'm not sure I'm ready for all that just yet! Yes, my hair has made a rapid retreat towards the back of my neck, and yes I have aches and pains when I wake up in the morning and I might need a "blue pill" once in a while. (Better living through chemistry!) But I'm not ready to pack it in so soon.
Others in the forums have intimated that because they have steady jobs they just want to stay at home, go to sleep and "stay out of trouble". Oh my, since when does doing a little partying equal getting into trouble. A night out does not have to include an armed robbery of your local convenience store. If you think it does.... well, then you DO need to stay at home.
OK, at long last... here is my point. I don't see a lot of "seniors" (50 and up) having much fun in Vegas... besides sitting for hours at a penny slot with a cigarette dangling from their slack lips and the ever present "7 and 7" within handy reach.
I'm 57, and by God I want to have FUN!! It does not have to include drunken debauchery or sex with small furry creatures. In many cities I have visited there are clubs for people of this age group.... say 40 thru 70. There's dancing and talking and flirting and eventual dating and some eventual whatever... A good example is San Antonio. Not my favorite city by any means, but there is a great club there near the airport called "Raffles". Small, but filled with people wanting to have fun with OTHER PEOPLE, not mindless machines bent on making your retirement years a blur of welfare checks and government cheese. Don't get me wrong, I gamble a bit myself. But it's important to keep it within reason and NOT the focal point of my life.
There used to be a club here down on Trop or Flamingo called "The hop". It was fun and I met some nice people there. Sadly it has closed. Does anyone know of any clubs in Vegas that might be fun for people of my age? I don't mean the local PT's and their ilk that are on every corner. That does not appeal to me at all.
OK, I have waxed philosophic long enough. I'd love to hear some suggestions and perhaps your take on clubbing in the 50s.
See ya! | |

| 50ish clubbing??? Posted: 12/9/2007 1:51:37 PM | LOL Yeah Vegas is a town of the young and the old and rich (High Rollers). They seem to be the only ones out having fun... I have gone to many of the clubs and have been the oldest one there (57 years young) with most being in 20's and 30's.
I went to a POF gathering once and was talking to some of the women my age and they all said they stay at home and do not go out much. No wonder no one is hooking up. I went for a long time here in POF and finally got a sort of girlfriend who lives in Sacramento of all places. She was the closest one who responded. None of the women here seem to be interested in meeting anyone unless they are rich, drive a BMW and live in Green Valley or Summerlin...
So good luck trying to find people who party here...
Hey there is always the Red Rooster or the Green Door ROFLMAO

| 50ish clubbing??? Posted: 12/19/2007 5:52:41 AM | I would be interested in going dancing, at a club that catered to people over 50. We don't like the same music as the under 30 crowd. Just having someplace to go on a weekend that wasn't filled with young people would be great. | |

| 50ish clubbing??? Posted: 12/26/2007 10:57:16 AM | well, if you are in your 50's, chances are pretty good you partied in the 1970's.
I haven't been there, but Polly Esther's in the Strat has a 70's club, and I've heard real good things about it from friends.

| 50ish clubbing??? Posted: 1/23/2008 2:16:37 PM | Polly Esthers is a lot of fun. Actually, I took my 70 year old mother there and we danced and had a great time!
I'm setting something up for the Stratosphere with the Salsa dancing next month.
Let me know if you're interested... so what if you're the oldest. You'll be the oldest having the most fun!

| 50ish clubbing??? Posted: 1/26/2008 3:10:52 PM | I agree with everything that all of you have said, and i've experienced it first hand. The atmosphere has changed....no more live music, it is all closed circuit large screen TV's.....makes it very impersonal. I have been to most all of the local bars, casinos, clubs that tout live music, and they're all filled with younger people...the women dance by themselves and the guys are in short supply. Feels like there is NO fun night life for people my age....and I am definintely NOT ready for a rocking chair by a long shot.
More of us baby boomers need to respond to these threads and perhaps organize to put some fun stuff together
For those of you who don't already know....we all get together for breakfast at the Cracked Egg on Cheyenne & Buffalo. We sit outside on the patio and have coffee and meet for a low key get together. Its held at 10 AM, Sundays...btw.

Posted: 1/26/2008 3:13:42 PM | oh yeah, almost forgot....do like country music...one of the few country bars that has a live band plays at the Saddle n Spurs over on Jones & Smoke Ranch.....however...EVERYBODY THERE IS AT LEAST 60 OR ABOVE AND A FEW HAD WALKERS. This is NOT funny....geez where CAN we go to have a good time?

| 50ish clubbing??? Posted: 2/16/2008 3:07:14 PM | Y'know. The Saddle is my favorite hang-out--though I'm more of a biker than cowboy. I watched Mr D's start up a "biker night" on wednesdays (went over big) and thought that something like that might work at the Saddle for thursdays (they have a jam session with the band that night and very few people show up to appreciate it). I put forth making it a singles night and suggested it HERE on this site, but had little response----NO WAIT!!! Y'R RIGHT: (#%$@%) I JUST TURNED 60 . . . . Egorhh | |

| 50ish clubbing??? Posted: 3/10/2008 11:03:37 AM | The "Hop" was a great place! I always had fun there and I am not even a good dancer. It was a fun bunch of folks there.
Thanks everyone for listing the dance places for me to check out.
It is still an awkward feeling for me to walk into a strange place not knowing anyone in there. You would think at my age I would have gotten over that!
