| | Imagine a world without black supremacyPage 1 of 6 (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6) | There are so many government sponsored programs to help the "inner city" kids, which is great, but they don't address the problem. In the media, being a gangbanger is cool, having a hard live is cool...it sells more records, and helps on the affirmative action front.
I had a hard life, lived in a bad neighborhood, but still did my best, and I'm somewhat successful now, but since I'm white, my family wasn't able to get into the "urban youth development", and even though I scored a 99% on a test and had a degree in electronics, for a city job to repair a/v and networking systems, 2 black women (that were on welfare) got the job because the city needed to "fill their quota".
Now I don't care if someone who is more qualified then I am gets the job, but anything else is racism. Yes people, there is racism going on still, that I have to pay for even though my family didn't come here until 1946, I still owe the black man from 1860. Would the 2 black women who got the job over me just because of their race pay reparations to my descendants 150 years later? No 'cause we're just a bunch of crackers.
Racism goes both ways people, and unfortunately, it will never go away.

| Imagine a world without black supremacy Posted: 11/19/2007 1:35:14 PM | Nate, Sigh...
I never thought I would say this but the OP has a point.
Reverse discrimination does exist and does cause much anger to those who grow up in similar circumstances as the 'racially marginalized'. They have the same shit to go through but are given less oppportunity out of it. At least in regards to Canada's inner city communities.

GOTCHA!!! The old double-standard rears its ugly head again!! The "...white supremacy" thread is in this section, therefore...
(Or is this yet another case of the discrimination the OP mentions? Hmmmm? )
What's good for the goose...

| Imagine a world without black supremacy Posted: 11/20/2007 12:15:30 AM | Gotta agree with you...I try so hard to teach my kids that we are all the same under the skin color...but how can I fight the racism they experience everyday?..They are white...they go to mostly black schools...they try to learn & do right..while the black kids get away with acting however they want & causing constant disruptions....they are picked on constantly...I've already had 2 attacked for nothing...just because they are white...one of my sons was standing talking to friends...when 5 black strangers threw him to the ground & began kicking him...because he is white...my other son was taunted to fight for months on the bus by several of them...why?...because he is white & has long hair...he would come home & say mom I don't know what to do...I'm not doing anything to them...he finally had to bust one in the nose to get them to leave him alone... My neighborhood used to be really nice...now there are little gangs of them roaming around starting trouble....tearing stuff up...twice now we've had one of them bring a loaded gun to school... I recently got through reading Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl..an autobiography written in the 1850's...it infuriated me...made me want to go back & help every slave that ever lived.. I'm from the South & I know for a fact my family used to own slaves...I've been to the plantation...I've seen the old slave houses...I think it's horrible...but it's not my fault...I didn't do it....I would never choose to do it...so why should we have to pay for it...why should we be hated for what our ancestors did?...are they not intelligent enough to realise this?....they aren't living as slaves now...they have all the opportunities we have & then some...& quite honestly I'm sick of the idea that I should feel guilty for something that I didn't do...& worrying about the safety of my children simply because they are white...my words sound hollow, when I say respect everyone..judge a person for what is in their heart...when they have to constantly put up with crap & have only been able to make a few intelligent black friends...no matter how hard they try... | |

grog, I think that one is in the wrong section as well and multiple people have posted "wrong forum" on that thread. If you go back and look at all the posts you'll see I am one of them, so no there is no double standard....GOT YOU!
There's nothing wrong with the subject. It is a good one. It just has nothing to do with science and philosophy. It's a political issue.
|
| Imagine a world without black supremacy Posted: 11/20/2007 5:03:26 AM | Why do I think this should be in the politics forum?
Because politics has been the work horse for social change and reform. Did we abolish slavery in the US because of science? No we didn't. Back then many people actually believed that people of different races were also a different spicies. (As unbelievable as that idea is to me, they did believe that.)
Did Philosophy have an impact on racism? No, not at all. We had to enact political reform to force people to change. As much as we hate being told what to do, politics had to rear it's ugly head and save us from ourselves.
As long as racism, and yes I agree it is still with us, is shoved into the backround, which is what happens when you discus it in a forum that has no power, it won't change.
You want change? Put the discussion where it will do some good. Don't sit around and talk about it in a safe ineffective place where everyone pretty much feels the same, get out and do something about it. Talk about it in politics where others may disagree with you. Martin Luther King Jr and the many great leaders who made us open our eyes didn't sit and complain in their cozy homes, they went to the places that would make a difference. They were leaders, they were heros!
That's why I say it is in the wrong forum.

Reverse-racism is really a double negative, although like "irregardless", will no doubt become an official word :P

Pasquel, I'm not exactly sure the level of sincerity from the OP, but it appears like a valid statement from that person's view. Racism and racial preferences is an issue that affects all human beings, not just a segment of society.
However, the issue may be logistically political, it is certainly a candidate for philosophical discussion. Philosophy is a method of seeking truth through discussion so that we may gain wisdom from such efforts. Isolating the topic in a political realm can often lead to belittling the thought of the minority thinker. Politics, in my opinion, does not strive for the level of thinking that philosophizing produces.
The only hope for such a topic to transcend its seclusion in the political realm is to take a constructive philosophical take on the issue. It is certainly not an issue of black and white, though the OP, I'm sure, uses the extreme shades as example (though there are literal impressions, of course).
Reverse-racism is really a double negative, although like "irregardless", will no doubt become an official word...
Let's hope not, Nate! "Irregardless" of how often "regardless" is inappropriately used.

| Imagine a world without black supremacy Posted: 11/20/2007 4:55:00 PM | I agree, lets thow out both words, and know that whites are indeed a minority in many instances, and go from there...thanks~
ps while we are at it 'inner city' can go out with the other two non words also~
literal impressions is rubbing me a bit inappropriately also~isn't most language of opinions' sake figurative?
edited to say, not concerned about the wording or the title of the thread or which forum it belongs, it's a valid topic, too bad it's not going to get more attention~from many different types of people~

Anyway, don't attack Panagonia...regardless of her words, she speaks truth, ya know; suburbs with a primary ethnicity are like that. My relatives live in the Jewish district in T.O.; and non Jews may not be told they're inferior, but...well, silence is the loudest noise.
Some areas are a bit more vocal and/or violent about it than others, but cliques will be cliques.

Reverse discrimination does exist and does cause much anger to those who grow up in similar circumstances as the 'racially marginalized'. The sad and unfortunate reality of it is that in such highly charged and emotional issues the pendulum always swings to both extremes before settling in the middle.
What some seem to forget, especially in the US, is that it hasn't really even been 1 full generation since the end of fully legal racism in North America and it almost always takes longer than that for "the pendulum to settle" when such major social changes occur (the majority of last generation to be born into that legal racism have not even reached retirement age yet).

| Imagine a world without black supremacy Posted: 11/21/2007 7:44:37 PM | I think there is something philosophical about this issue, therefore I figure it IS in the right thread. After all, philosophy does nothing either, in real terms! LOL!
Anyways...discrimination comes in many forms and from many areas in life. Is it right for a guy to live like a pauper while the ex and kids are eating steak and eggs for breakfast? Think about that one. Is it right that some feel women should not be the breadwinner in a two parent family? Millions of guys head off to work daily to support the family....so, if women are equal, they can do the same. Courts seem to look the other way on this topic. Being white isn't a drawback...nor is being black, red, yellow or whatever shade your skin may be, in todays society. There are equalization programs out there to level the playing field. But, when some push that envelope and cut out certain segments of society from recieving those chances, then we have a problem. Try setting up a scholarship for "whites only" today...see what happens. Some societies in the USA do have them though...but they are "kept quiet".
Todays society is all about EQUALITY. this is as I feel it should be...nobody given special priveledge for any reasons, all given equal chances. Sure...hard when you are poor...but not necessarily impossible. Lots of programs out there to help.
To be equal, though, people MUST accept the responsibility that comes with it. Many don't want the responsibility...just the benefits.

| Imagine a world without black supremacy Posted: 11/21/2007 7:54:03 PM | In my opinion, this is a simple case of the "turning of the worm".
For hundreds of years whites used "Manifest Destiny" as a rationale and excuse for subjugating and killing people of color all over the world. When the Civil Rights movement got started, it called attention to the horrors people of color had experienced at the hands of whites. Don't forget, there were many white people who agreed that everyone should enjoy the same freedoms and opportunities that whites had solely enjoyed and laws were passed to level the playing field. And now everyone a shot at the pursuit of happiness no matter their color. The days of "whites only" are gone.
OP, you stated, "I still owe the black man from 1860." You don't owe anyone anything, except respect.
|
| Imagine a world without black supremacy Posted: 11/21/2007 9:57:15 PM | You people are so short sighted.
There are approximately 4 billion people in China, India and other Asian and the only thing you folks think of when race is brought up is black and white.
China wins now go buy your made in China Christmas presents and if you have to call someone about it talk to India.

EHN! Wrong. To say that something is owed implies debt; You don't owe anyone respect unless their are respectful to you - which is entirely voluntary. That's one of the things that makes me despise pride movements of any kind. The first step to making me hate you is demanding that I respect you; my response to that is "f.uckin' earn it!".

| Imagine a world without black supremacy Posted: 11/23/2007 6:40:58 AM | | I agree 100% with letsgopens. For years I have seen this in North Carolina, and though I'm not the fitting description for the "white" race, I do hate to see anyone mistreated, and if there was any race in the USA mistreated, it is the white or Caucasian race. | |

| Imagine a world without black supremacy Posted: 11/23/2007 7:20:39 AM | Thought I might add...
NateC I thought I might mention that it is proven fact that people are paid, given bonuses and incentives to be racist in the hiring sectors. I've been there before owning my own business, though I never followed those incentives, the business was a hard start. Again I know what people go through being a government sponsored program. Also hiring minority type races over majority qualifies the business for over 500 grant programs through the US government (perhaps thats another incentive?).
The only program I ever took advantage of was hiring veterans, though I'm one myself, I do have a soft spot for those whom have served. Though I hired veterans as a priority, everyone else was off of pure qualification. If a black female was more qualified for the position than a white male, she got the job, period. And visa-versa. I'm the kind of person that is personally wearied from all of the race crap that still occurs in this country. And to be honest, we aren't going to progress this country too much further forward until the anti-racist (which are racist) stop their absurd practices and oppressing their beliefs in this country. I believe that if the country has a ratio of 60% white, 40% black, then the unemployment ratio should be the same, not opposite.
Thinking back to those days of good ole army service, I wish it could be the same today. Meaning I sort of wish employers acted like the DoD when it came to race, because I've never seen a more fair system in this country. In the armed services it didn't matter what race you were, you could die just like the other races, because one thing was always the same....
You were American. We all realized that, we all recpected each other for that fact and didn't care what race they were, we fought beside of them just as if we were color blind so to speak.

| Imagine a world without black supremacy Posted: 11/23/2007 10:06:58 AM | Want to know what I have noticed, In the thread of white supremacy. mongojoe was against it white supremacy. In this thread, sounds as if white people need to give time for things to settle concerning black supremacy. In the white supremacy thread, NateC implies white abusers as bigots. In this thread, the minority abusers are cliques. These 2 men are perfect examples of double standards . My thoughts on black supremacy. I think it is needed as long as there is white supremacy. Back in the 60s(even before), black people did not have the rights the white people had. I am happy to say they have come along way and I am proud and respect them for that. I understand why quotas needed to be in place. But these days, black supremacy has gone way overboard.I mean seriously, 6 blacks try to kill a white boy then claim they were charged with murder because they are black. That blacks commit the most crimes(according to FBI reports and my personal observation)but claim more blacks go to prison because they are black. They claim no help came to New Orleans because they were mostly black, but maybe I think the Utah coal minors could have been saved if they were not mostly white. I am sure there are racist DAs that unjustly charge blacks with crimes, butI am sure there are politically correct DAs that unjustly charge whites with crimes to make people believe he is not a racist. Same goes for racist and pc judges. | |

But the person who wants it has the onus of having you keep that respect for them. If their actions/words/ whatever make them lose respect in your eyes, then it is up to them to earn it back. Those "demanding" respect have already lost some in my eyes. Guess they will have to earn it back huh?

| Imagine a world without black supremacy Posted: 11/23/2007 2:17:04 PM | | businesses take advantage of hiring " minorities", because they get special tax status, and write- offs. This has been going on for some time now. It is interesting, as an employee, to see at my company, everytime they are hiring new people, how many are from different races, and ethniticies. Lately, because i am in the Seattle area, my company is definitey going global by the different foreign people they have been hiring. The new employees are mostly Asian, and predominately from the Phillipines. At my place of employment, us white and black employees are a huge minority. Companies are going global.... cheaper costs for hiring from third world countries, I don't want to upset the apple cart, but Americans should " wake up."... and start asking questions????? some economy we have!!!!!!!!!!! I agree with ghostknight's post earlier. The issue isn't black and white anymore, it is global now...........and a lot more complicated. | |

Want to know what I have noticed, In the thread of white supremacy. mongojoe was against it white supremacy. In this thread, sounds as if white people need to give time for things to settle concerning black supremacy Um, no dear...
I did not say that "black supremacy" needs time to settle. I said that "reverse discrimination" needs time to settle.
In case you were not aware, "reverse discrimination" is a term applied to things like affirmative action, forced bussing, etc. not "black supremacy" (as in blacks are superior to whites).
In case you were not aware, ALL of these "social justice" laws were passed by white majority legislatures not by blacks of their own accord. Did you get that? The part about these laws being passed mainly by whites not blacks (so much for the black supremacy angle)?
You know, reading comprehension is a strength, not a sign of weakness.
