Not a trace of desperation. Great posts as well. I've told various other people that they need more than one picture in their profile (ie.: 'body-shots', nature background, etc.) but for you, this one picture is all you need. maybe breakdown when you start talking about something different into a new paragraph, but otherwise its good.
Best way to check any changes ask a female relative or friend to read it, they will know if you are stretching any points a bit too far.
No point in nopt telling ther truth, as any prospective partner would find out when you met anyways.
