| England can recover, England must recover.............. Posted: 11/23/2007 11:47:35 AM | for the good of football England must get over the 'everyone knew' disaster.
it is a pity to see how a great country with plenty of great footballers is always doomed to fail because of silly managers, whose knowledge of football is similar to mine of building space rockets.
both Mc Laren and Sven Erikson are the worst managers that i have ever seen. now it seems Mourinho will take the seat, really? when are those old fossils of the FA going to learn the lesson as we say in Spain?

| England can recover, England must recover.............. Posted: 11/23/2007 4:21:46 PM | | I don't think all the blame can rest with the Manager, FA or the players. The clubs too must shoulder some responsibility. There are too many foreign has beens denying the young talent of this country places and experience because clubs like to have "Big Name" players in their teams. | |

| England can recover, England must recover.............. Posted: 11/23/2007 6:28:27 PM | I hear this arguement about foreign imports into our game, but most other countries international teams are made up of players that play in other countries so having a league that is made up of home grown talent to pick from is a little bit of a false arguement and ours is not the only league with lots of imports.
the population of croatia is approx 4,493,312 a lot lot less than ours and you only need 16 players(including subs) and if a country that small can produce a team that beat us twice, its because they played to their strengths, we need to go back to the basics and instead of trying to play as the opposition does we should play like we do in the premiership, .

| England can recover, England must recover.............. Posted: 11/24/2007 2:52:08 AM | for the good of football England must get over the 'everyone knew' disaster. What planet are you on???? It is not a God given right for England to qualify for every major tournament, they have to play well and beat good teams to earn that right!!! They didnt do that, not all due to poor management but mainlt due to the over rated, over paid ,egotistical English players who with unbleivable arrogance under estimate a lot of very good teams!! This shower of players think that it IS there right to play in every tournament and have come down to earth with a huge bump when they where dumped out on there ar*es by a very ordinary Croatia side! Get over it, deal with it. Theres troops being killed in Iraq and Afghanistan almost daily, dont you think that is a more worthwhile headline??? | |

Posted: 11/24/2007 4:52:07 AM | | well we got what we deserved in the end.we proved we had not got what it takes this time.but yes its about time we started looking back to go forward again, like our players managers yes even the fa remember the honours of representing our country instead of themselves, scotlands finest played all their matches with passion hence they did so well and it was a shame to see them go out.

Unfortunately the current team have gained a reputation of ballsing things up at the last minute, a talent they again displayed on Wednesday.
I didn't realise that the Croation population was so tiny, less than 5 million? That's less than the population of London. Could we have established an England team just from the London clubs? Probably not, how many players in London at the mo would qualify as English?

| England can recover, England must recover.............. Posted: 11/24/2007 10:48:07 AM | I persoanlly think that this may do England some good...
Trouble with england is that the press are so anti it if we dont win every single game..same as most of the supporters. We need to build a team from scratch and we need to support it through the early years and not shout for new managers/old players if a game doesnt go well...
Man U early 90s built their team up through young players..Arsenal built their team up...France built their team up to win the WC...it takes time.
HOpefully the country will get behind the new management and team.
Its amazing how many great england managers their could be by listening to the comments in the local pub...someone has to make decisions and be strong minded and not listen to the press and so called supporters who in hindsight would do things differently!!
(bet i explained this in a confusing way havent i ..)

Posted: 11/24/2007 12:06:18 PM | | I'd actually not be overly upset if they decided to call it a day, give up on football entirely and spend the money on better roads, schools, hospitals, hell even on planting a few trees would feel like money better spent lol

we could put together such a team, but there might be some square pegs in round holes. and that would be unforgivable! Is that a yes or a no then?
spend the money on better roads, schools, hospitals, hell even on planting a few trees would feel like money better spent lol
Gosh, I know I don't know a lot about international football, but I certainly didn't know it was Government funded!

| England can recover, England must recover.............. Posted: 11/24/2007 3:00:47 PM | I didnt say it WAS government funding, I just said I'd rather see the money spent on something else, anything else almost lol
How about they set up an under 25's all female nude volley ball team instead? At least then most of the spectators wouldnt care if they won or lost, infact they probably wouldnt even realise if they did or didnt

'when are those old fossils of the FA going to learn the lesson', as we say in Spain? what a quaint saying hold me back, ma, I'm slipping into sarky-mode!!
As a passive observer of the English footballing or cricketing, leagues, and comparing them to other countries' players, i'd have to say that the 'hunger' has been paid out of them. Years ago the incredible honour a footballer or cricketer had to be chosen for and to play for the national team, was immense. It was the accolade each young player aimed for and often was the epitome of their career. Nowadays, it's just another game. No spark, no teamship, no national pride..... . .. but how can there be when the biggest percent of players in this country are bought in from other countries anyway, or even our best players exported to other countries.
Football is crappola now as a icon of national pride - Rugby is the way to go.

Posted: 11/24/2007 3:14:49 PM | | before i start im a football nut even branded myself with tatoos to my shame but its a beautiful and frustrating game, thats why i love it....but when are you going to realise, were mediocre, were the spurs of the international league...used to be great but now living and hanging on to the past glory, the sooner we realise that the sooner we can build from the bottom up, and stop expecting to win games...were not that good, we have to work hard for a win as most do, and we need to install that ethic again...until we do, the 120k brigade will think they can walk on water, with the knowledge, thell still get paid evan if they're on the bench.

| England can recover, England must recover.............. Posted: 11/24/2007 3:54:06 PM | well you got the "old fossils" right. more like dinosaurs, who like them should be extinct. should be replaced by ex players and managers who at least know the game at the top level. and the failure will continue till the grassroots level and academies get sorted out! | |
|
| England can recover, England must recover.............. Posted: 11/25/2007 1:47:16 AM | When you approach every game looking to win, that is a good thing. If you approach every game with no respect for 'Johnny Foreigner' you deserve to fall. Such is England's perennial attitude problem. This is ENTIRELY down to the idiot-level media that whips up enthusiasm for ordinary players. The FA believe the Premier League is 'the best in the world'. What about the Italian one? English arrogance to the fore again! | |
|
| England can recover, England must recover.............. Posted: 11/25/2007 6:07:55 AM | msg 13"With all due respect, we can't keep harping on about 1966."
I hardly think that mentioning an England success to someone who clearly is unaware of it can be described as 'harping on'.
Ignoring history is never the best way, no matter if the topic is football or politics. England's footballing history has various turning points from which lessons were and could be learned.
Wembley 1953 (Hungary), for example, was a wake-up call, as was the previous World Cup in Brazil. I'm sure few people need reminding of England's appalling record in penalty shoot-outs and of the need to improve that (not difficult).
Recent history shows us that having a non-English manager is never the best option, as he cannot be committed 100% to the cause.
