Instant message problem

I have searched the threads. I did read all the help on POF regarding instant messaging. I have searched for "IM", "Instant", "message" and "instant message". I found nothing that relates to this particular problem. Now, I know that I am not the only one affected by this so it bears discussion. Hopefully nobody will try to delete this post due to redundancy.

OK, so now the preamble is out of the way, here's the deal. When I am in an IM with another POF'er, if I am typing when the other person sends a line of text, my cursor disappears and, of course, anything I type after that fails to appear. I then have to move my mouse cursor into the dialog box, click it and then start typing again. VERY aggravating. Especially when you consider it happens ALL the time. I tend to write fairly long sentences when I am im'ing so my typing gets interrupted several times per sentence.

I am curious how many other users are affected similarly.

I have written to the company (userplane) also. If I get any suggestions back from them on how to alleviate this problem, I shall post them here.

I suspect it annoys all of us. Drives me buggy that as soon as the person sends a line of text the IM instantly goes on top. What can I say, you can either shut your messenger off or decide to be 100% focused on it. Multi tasking just is a pain in the butt.

First time I tried the IM here I got two windows opened at once and didn't know about this little fluke. I wrote a sentence, and half of it went in one window and the other half wound up in the other window. NEVER try to IM more than one woman at a time in this IM.

Sorry, you are referring to a different issue. You need to start a thread about that issue if you want to discuss it. I am not referring to the fact that the IM window comes to the foreground when a message comes in. Nor am I referring to the difficulties involved in trying to multi-task (IM and browse?).

I am talking about when you are in an IM window and your cursor disappears when a line of text from the other user comes in. That is the only issue this thread is supposed to be dealing with. This is an aggravating thing to deal with and needs to be solved.

I am not trying to be mean or abrupt with you and I do appreciate your input but it is important to keep the thread on the topic. If not, it won't get solved. Please don't get this thread off topic by introducing another problem. Start another thread if you want to discuss that problem. There's lots of room for more threads.

It is the same thing, guy. The IM does that for everyone. You type and if the other person types and sends before you are finished typing, your cursor goes to the reply window. It is just not that wonderful an IM software and as for threads, there are many of them on this subject. Sorry if we offended you for trying to help.

You need to take it up with Userplane - I have read.

This is a Browser/Adobe Flash/Advertising Feed Issue unfortunately, and not in favour of Firefox or anything that else that doesn't run on the Internet Explorer Engine.

IE has been "baptized" to Spam the H*ll out of you, and the Folks at Userplane haven't yet bothered to update their Client to fix this Instant Messenger Issue in respect to some other Browsers.

The very samething that renders Internet Explorer insecure is the very samething their Advertising Engines are operating on. Firefox doesn't have these gaping Security Holes, thus a price had to be paid. It may well be a technical Issue that may not be resolved among the aforementioned for some Time to come, but don't expect any Answers from Userplane either.

If you E-Mail them for support, they'll just just PR or bounce you back here again. They make their Money on the Advertising Feeds, not resolving your Browser Issues.

By all Means e-mail them, you'll just be the 20,756th User who has enquired about the very samething over the last couple of Years.

Does it look like Somebody cares?

Actually it is on topic and I responded accordingly. Sorry if you couldnt comprehend what I was saying but I am talking about the same issue. As for not trying to be mean or abrupt, dont worry I didnt take it such. In fact it just came across more rude than anything. Bottom line though it is NOT YOUR PLACE to be telling users to shut up and take it elsewhere.

Ticketoride:

Thanks for the very well written answer that puts the entire issue into perspective. I wasn't aware that Userplane would not respond in any useful fashion. Well, since this IM thing is a much deeper issue than I first thought, perhaps I will just keep Yahoo and MSN Messenger on standby and switch to either of those programs at the first opportunity.

Thanks again for the pertinent, useful info! Awesome job!

Deceased, the problem that you refer to is a result of the cursor focus being shifted to the new IM window when it pops up. That is why you typed in two windows. Your message was split when the second window opened and your cursor moved to the new window. It is much akin to what allison mentioned, the new window comes to the front and steals the cursor focus. Admittedly, it is aggravating but it isn't what I was talking about.

I am sure you can see now that I was not referring to your specific issue so, no, they are not the same thing. I was referring to the fact that when you are typing in ONE window ..oh hell, why am I explaining it again? Just re-read my original post.

I have actually had a dialogue going with Userplane over the past few days. However as TicketToRide stated, their replies are more PR than help as they keep claiming they are unable to replicate this annoying issue.

As more of the world sees the light and moves to the vastly superior FireFox browser, Userplanes business model will start to collapse.

their replies are PR claiming they are unable to replicate this annoying issue.

Well ... they assume you are a complete Moron and "Willingness" is not Part of their Vocabulary.

What happened to that Userplane Rep that used to have an Account around here, supposedly pretending to render "Tech Support"?

If he really wanted to "Help" (so "uncorporate" ... lol) he could make a Thread polling Users for these Type of Errors and investigate, remain in Contact with the Base and give Feedback to resolve these Problems.

They can bullsh!t each single User who makes Enquiries at their End, but can't run this PR Crap off on Everybody around here.

Just use Yahoo, MSN, SKYPE and what not. Don't bother with Userplane Trashware.

And if anyone gets "apprehensive" why you are not running "Instant Messenger", just point them to this Thread.

John Siscel
Technical Support Engineer

No shame calling himself an Engineer after 2 Years of Complaints and no Action/Investigation taken? I doubt its more than a made-up Title for yet another 'Go-For' answering the Phone/E-Mails.
