Here are my connotations: "Goddess"--worship her or die; usually granola; not necessarily pretty "Diva"--do as she says or be gone; usually city-chic; not necessarily pretty, but wears lots of make-up to good effect "Princess"--do as she says or she'll pout; usually Beverly Hills/Hamptons rich brat; often pretty as a picture, which is why men let them get away with it "Sassy"--thinks she's "assertive" but really is just a pissy princess/bitch without the money; usually blue-collar; can be pretty without make-up

| Goddess,diva.princess,sassy---What do they mean? Posted: 11/29/2007 11:18:35 AM | Those self-labels are scary. They translate to mean: Goddess: self-absorbed and delusional Diva: self-centered and demanding Princess: Immature-- oh grow up little girl Sassy: rude but we're all supposed to think it's "cute"." It isn't.

| Goddess,diva.princess,sassy---What do they mean? Posted: 11/29/2007 11:24:18 AM | | I think you have to take it in context, as most of the ones I've seen it's pretty obviously tongue in cheek. I think some use it to screen out those that are too serious and don't have much of a sense of humor. | |

Good post OP - I agree with you, so it's not just you. I certainly see these as red-flags and give a wide bearth to any names and profiles including them as self-description. Add the following too
brat/bratty flirty sexy - (not conclusive this one, maybe an amber flag, but I'm generally suspicious of someone self-describing with this term)

| Goddess,diva.princess,sassy---What do they mean? Posted: 11/29/2007 11:41:19 AM | My ex had business cards made up with her name followed by "Firefighter - Godess"
I was completely OK with it - I saw if for what it was meant to be - humourous.
I suspect that the same applies on dating sites. Not an issue for me.

I have "Diva", "Goddess", "Bon-bon tester", and "Socialite" as my "occupation" and that is how it is meant to be taken. And yes, I do use it to frighten the humorless.
What's worse is then they wear these emblazoned on a pink t-shirt. In rhinestones. RUN! I completely agree with this statement and sadly, I see it too often in my neck of the woods.

| Goddess,diva.princess,sassy---What do they mean? Posted: 11/29/2007 11:54:04 AM | Well, we are prizes, don't you realize that??
All too well... That's why guys can't afford them and not every guy wants to share a woman with other guys and still pay everything he's got.

Unfortunately humorlessness (if that's a word..hehe) runs amok. I wrote a flat out psycho profile before, and had a few take it seriously. So over the top...DUH!
If they don't get it well....they just don't get it.

| Goddess,diva.princess,sassy---What do they mean? Posted: 11/29/2007 12:33:16 PM | I think what is humorless is that a lot of those who label themselves as "princess" (and mean it) seem to forget a key fact. The princess is not supposed to date the servants. She is supposed to date the prince---or a knight.
A princess is waited on, but she is waited on by her lady's maids and the various servants of the castle...not by the prince. Yes, the prince courts the princess and treats her like a lady...but he is NOT her servant.

| Goddess,diva.princess,sassy---What do they mean? Posted: 11/29/2007 12:34:38 PM | I find it hilarious myself when a girl says she's "average" when really, she's the size of a double decker bus.
All these names that women give to themsevles, it's just to make them feel better and to make them seem something their not. I'd ignore it if I were you and ignore them too! They're more often than not, nothing but trouble.

| Goddess,diva.princess,sassy---What do they mean? Posted: 11/29/2007 12:44:07 PM | After a few years of online dating AND dating guys in real life, I've come to suspect that there is no such thing as dating anymore, it's simply a hunt for red flags so that no one need take any emotional risks. I'm not advocating that everyone toss all their standards and requirements out the window and settle for whatever they can find, but this whole red flag thing is getting ridiculous! Cindy O Living breathing red flag. | |

My feelings exactly.

I agree. I know women with those names and they're not at all like the stereotypes listed here.
My own nickname doesn't mean I like cats, for example (I hate them). It means that navigating the dating process is similar to the lost cause of attempting to herd cats! Nearly impossible sometimes!
There is so much opportunity to over think this stuff, good to see it's not being wasted!

Goddess,diva.princess,sassy---What do they mean?
I don't think a woman calling herself these things has anything to do with men at all. It's in that same strictly female realm as Oprah, that reality TV contest with the clothes designers, tampons and bachelorette parties. That's why there is no guy equivalent.
That said, sassy or "sarcastic" are red flags because women who label themselves as such are typically just plain rude and ****y and call it sarcasm.
OTOH, women who call themselves "divas" are typically not divas at all. A real diva would have NO sense of humor whatsoever and would never call herself a diva.
