| Fernando Torres Posted: 11/29/2007 5:06:11 PM | How good will Fernando Torres get? He's only 23 and has already shown amazing potential. Will we look back in 10 years on highlight videos and say that he was as exciting to watch as Ronaldo, Zlatan, C. Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, etc.. | |
|
| Fernando Torres Posted: 11/29/2007 10:40:21 PM | who is Fernando Torres? Ummm... who are the other names? What sport? Does anybody watch?
Saying a no name is a talent is like saying some soccer player is a great athlete. Ludicrous. Tell the diving sissies to play a real sport.

| Fernando Torres Posted: 11/29/2007 10:53:25 PM | Give it a rest. If you dont like the real football ok.
Leave the football threads for those who do.
|
| Fernando Torres Posted: 11/30/2007 4:56:19 PM | Fernando will kick a*s in the premiership & now he's scored his first goals for Liverpool in Europe he'll help bring a 6th european cup to Anfield.

Oh and pray tell what is a real man's sport over in the US.....Oh yes it's Rugby with padding, lasts about 3 weeks per game & is the perfect cure for insomnia. Since when is it FOOTBALL, the only time you kick it is when you kick it for the sticks.
In football you use....your....feet hence the name Football. As for not being athletes, I don't see American football players running around for almost a full hour and a half, sometimes two hours depending on the competition that's being played.

| Fernando Torres Posted: 11/30/2007 6:07:30 PM | Hey you guys, this is an open forum and if you are not willing to take the hits like everybody else is then don't post.
There is ONE real Football and it's played in the United States by REAL men who can take hits, get smacked around every week, catch a real football and run with one too.
So, as you can see, everyone does have an oppinion. Even a Woman !!!!!

| Fernando Torres Posted: 11/30/2007 8:27:25 PM | | This debate is about Fernando Torres. | |
|
| Fernando Torres Posted: 11/30/2007 8:32:34 PM | Torres is having a brutal season...last year wasn't much better. In fact he really hasn't done anything since the 05 Stanley Cup finals. But that's no reason to insult him by calling him Fernando
I say the Oilers should trade him
|
| Fernando Torres Posted: 11/30/2007 8:46:05 PM | watched him playing the other day where he scored 2 goals... well, he's good, he can play, havent seen any greatness in him yet though. when we talk about Ronaldo, we see a great player and ppl respect him for his skills on the field and stuff. anyways, Torres' cuter than Ronaldo :P | |

Blonde ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There is quite a few Gridiron threads on here. If you like that long steroid fueled ad break then by all means post with like minded individuals on those.
You dont have to take every football (soccer) thread as an attack on Americanism.

| Fernando Torres Posted: 12/1/2007 3:49:10 AM | yeah Fernando Torres is the best Spanish footballer ever playing in the Premiership.
Liverpool are quite lucky to have got him. the other day he scored 2 goals. it seems he was born with a ball.................
even if he played for Atletico Madrid before joining the Reds, i DO admire him (i am a supporter of Real Madrid)
if injuries do not come upon him, he will be great, sure
|
| Fernando Torres Posted: 12/1/2007 4:05:31 AM | ^^^^^^ I agree with you totally, if he can steer clear of injuries major or minor I think he will become as big a hero as Kenny Dalglish, Ian Rush, Peter Beardsley, John Aldridge, Ian St John, Robbie Fowler & Kevin Keegan.
I also think that Andrei Voronin will be an exceptional buy (mainly because they got him for free). I can't forget Peter 'beanpole' Crouch either.
Oh & just a special mention for someone else. He might not have been a striker, but the outstanding talents of Bruce Grobbelaar have made this guy a LEGEND and his day he was THE GREATEST goalkeeper.
|
| Fernando Torres Posted: 12/1/2007 5:35:30 PM | | i agree with you on torres but come on voronin your having a laugh aint you. | |
|
| Fernando Torres Posted: 12/1/2007 5:40:57 PM | No way. He works hard, ok so he's finding it a bit difficult at the minute. But not all players can find their feet in the premier league straight away.
Just look at Crouch when he first signed, he could have been leaning on a barndoor & missed. If Benitez can settle the changes and maybe give Andi a decent run in the team then, who knows.
Torres has taken a little while to settle, but because he's got such a talented team around him that's made it slightly easier for him.
Voronin hasn't had the chances to impress that Torres has, but he'll take what he gets.
|
| Fernando Torres Posted: 12/1/2007 6:21:20 PM | | Superman, I think Crouch is coming into his own this season. From 2 years ago he has matured nicely. Voronin will get his chance to shine, I was checking out Liverpools roster earlier today & their squad is loaded with talent! I am so glad we now have The Fox soccer channel now in America. We get select games from the EPL, Bundesliga, La Liga, Series A , Premira A and so on. It is nice to see a Yank (Clint Dempsey) in the top 15 in scoring in the EPL. | |
|
| Fernando Torres Posted: 12/2/2007 3:31:08 AM | at last an american saying they have plenty of games on TV (others say there are not).
most american players in Europe play in the Premiership. if i were the president or owner of any football club i would put my eyes in USA where there are plenty of good players. it is a matter of logic, a country so vast with millions of children and teenagers playing the sport must have good footballers, sure
after some years time USA will be powerful
|
| Fernando Torres Posted: 12/2/2007 3:37:46 AM | I think there's been a few good footballers come over from America & play in a league which is fairly difficult .
One I can gladly mention though is Brad Friedel, he was a great keeper while at Liverpool & carried that one at Blackburn. It must have been a difficult choice for the US national manager to choose between both Brad & Kasey Keller.
I think my two favourite American players were Roy Wegerle & Alexi Lalas (When I was playing for one team that the nickname they gave me, due to having long hair & a goatee....Funny though when I shaved my head completely they re-nicknamed me Barthez)
OT I also think that what gives Torres the great oppotunities that does have is the fact that he has players like Ryan Babel, John Arne Riise, Harry Kewell, Jermaine Pennant & Yossi Benayoun playing wide of him and he's also got a strong centre midfield with Xabi Alonso, Steven Gerrard, Momo Sissoko & Javier Mascherano. All these can either get the ball & run with it or pass it through the tightest gaps & to give Torres the chance of hitting the net.

| Fernando Torres Posted: 12/3/2007 5:41:48 AM | @Msg2
Get the hell out of this thread you ignorant know nothing****ead!
|
| Fernando Torres Posted: 12/3/2007 12:35:06 PM | | Superman..One player I miss in the Team USA midfield is Claudio Reyna. He was great at setting up the front line..He is one of the reasons Brian Mc Bride made it to the EPL. Friedel & especially Keller were the main reasons Team USA made it to the quarterfinals in 1994 before being outted by the Brazilians who were the eventual champs. This was also the year we were the host nation & Americans got to see just what International football is all about. | |
|
| Fernando Torres Posted: 12/3/2007 12:35:59 PM | | Tim Howard is a decent keeper as well.. | |
|
| Fernando Torres Posted: 12/3/2007 1:17:37 PM | Reyna plaed for Manchester City for while and looked a good player. Tim Howard's ok, but he used to play for the other Manchester side (United) & now plays for Liverpool's local rivals Everton (BOOO!!! ).
I was a bit sad to see that Cobi Jones didn't quite make the grade over here, I liked to see his pacey runs & he did have quite a good first touch on him.
OT Torres did again yesterday, that's 11 goals in 15 games I think.
|
| Fernando Torres Posted: 12/3/2007 1:50:03 PM | | Im am anxious to see Spain's side in Euro 08..I predict a improvement for sure..Pedro should be pleased.. | |
|
| Fernando Torres Posted: 12/3/2007 2:47:23 PM | I'm hoping that Spain win it, mainly due to the fact there's a good strong contingent of Liverpool players that should be involved.
I think Pepe should be in goal because he's done a fantastic job since joining THE Reds, after all anyone that can oust a keeper of the quality of Jerzy Dudek from the side is certainly doing something right.
I also think that former Anfield favourite Luis Garcia should be given a starting place.
I definately think that Fernado Torres though is the key to them winning it.
I'm putting my money on them anyway
