Have scammers contacted you?Page 1 of 2    (1, 2)
I know there are many guys who are on dating sites get contacted by scammers,by scammers I mean women with beautiful pics age 21 to 35 send us messages telling us how great we sound, they want to get to know us,they put local towns on their profiles but happen to be in Russia or Nigeria, they tell a sob story about how they want to see us so bad but can't because of financial problems, and eventially ask for help so they can be with us.

My question is,do women get contacted in a similar way??

Hey Bart... be careful how you talk about my Ivana !! She told me she loves me and I'm her soulmate... and for only $199, plus shipping and handling, she'll prove it! I can't wait.

How do you know they aren't men behind those pics???Believe this--a lot of them are--and they know exactly what a man wants to hear.

And yes I've heard of lots of scams on both men and women.

Yah I've had those. They send incredibly beautiful fake pictures. Start getting you hooked by great conversation. You think you have great chemistry and then she gives you her sad story about her dad who is dying of cancer and she has no money to save him but of course you could because your a foreigner and the dollar conversion is great. She ask you to send her $4000.00 by money order or cheque payable to her because she's the treasurer of the family affairs while her father is sick.

I had something very similar, when I was hunting for a roommate. This incredibly hot woman e-mailed me claiming she needed a place to stay since she is starting work at an oil and gas company. In order for her to get stuff moved she need me to cash cheque for her to pay for the moving broker and 1st months rent. Which I just about fell for in till I found an add with exactly the same wording, asking for the same thing.

Oh yeah, we get them, but their technique is a bit different. Usually they are closer to us in age and the email tends to be along the lines of how our beauty stopped them dead in their tracks (gawd that one always leaves me in stitches), their wife died tragically or cheated on and they were talked into signing up online by their kids because they were too devastated to ever date again, and there is almost poetry. These as well as the grammar are dead giveaways.

I don't know about the others but my answer is NO, and if someone contacted me and give me a sob story I say tough suck it up deal with, oh and while you are at it get a life. Okay maybe I'm being a bit hard, but the way I see it I am responsible for me and mine, not for some bugger else who is looking for that poor gullible sod who will fall for anything so these twits can make their life a bit easier. No I have just told a big fat lie, I did get contacted by someone in Iraq, what do I have stupid written on my head or something, I like you lots, [ my thoughts mate you don't know me], my English not good, I look after you, translated in my mind I Like come UK , get what I can because the UK soft as shit. My answer dude bugger off, what do I look like an idiot.

it seems that a few millions $$$$$$ are waiting for me over in AFRICA, world cup lottery ticket... or the family has been put out of their country, and property taken from them and lo and behold they got their government to give them back their money, but they need to put it all in a foreign bank( America) and they need your personal bank numbers etc. etc., and they will give you a very tidy sum, for you playing the fool., and being the loser. I am waiting for a handsome dude to contact me, and give me all is particulars, about his tragic situation etc, and maybe we can have a long- distance internet thing going on......Is there a Vladimar from Russia ??? It would be strange to get something like that, especially on the internet. No one really bothers me too much, because i am always broke...oh !! if only a had a few millions!! it would be amusing to see some of the schemes that desperation brings out of some people. Anyway, we should all know from our collective experiences, that usually a wonderful, person thats wants money isn't really that WONDERFUL anymore.......the fantasy begins to fade away in a real quick way......!!

For sex but seldom for money. Lately and online, it's been "my ex or present wife/girlfriend, etc...is sick or fridgid." Since I am older, I get boys who want older more experienced women to have sex with. In person, it is more subtle forms of pity ploys and self deprecating humor tactics. Like he was so neglected and abused by the ex or other women, he's so wounded, nobody wants him, nobody loves him, so ugly, blah blah blah, can I spare some sex? Subtle demands like "I am a nice guy [so you owe me sex]. " I am leary of men who tell me repeatedly what nice guys they are, like it entitles them to anything, and they usually aren't.

When I was younger, I got a lot of dirty old men and requests for threesomes. They never quit coming up with all kinds of ways to solicit. All I can do is admire how much effort must go into such a craft. I occassionally hear something new, but no, pretty much the same worn out pick up lines.

The scam I get is usually from a poster with a super-duper, drop dead hot PICTURE of some guy . . .he'll say something flirty and complimentary. Then ask for me to send him "more" pictures . . .especially if I have "bikini" shots, pics of my body, etc.

I was wondering since you have so much sex to give around I figure you could spare me some. Of course this is a loan and I'll pay back that sex you loaned me. LOL

For the past few weeks I have been chatting with a girl that I first got in contact with off here. She has told me that she was from Canada and moved to the States. She has said to me that she is in London right now because she buys leather and art then sells it in the States. Last week she said that she needs more money for all the items that she has to send back with her. She asked me if a client could send me a check and for me to let it clear and send her all of the 4,000 dollar check except for 400.00 for helping her out.. I have read on some of the new scams on the net and this sounds alot like the newer ones.. Last night I did recive a check for 4,000.00! I have found two more profiles of "hers" also... This is just another example. So to all out there be safe!! Its always best to take your time to get to know someone!!

For sex, never for money. I then ask them to deposit $10 million in my bank account and I will send them a check drawn on my account in Nigeria.

Sometimes, I just copy and paste replies from spam in my mailbox. It is rather fun to get them going.....

Yes, I get scam emails occasionally. I've caught onto the pattern now. The guy calls you sweetie or angel a lot. Says that he was stopped in his tracks by your stunning beauty. They all talk about how they are a good christian man (first clue that they didn't read my profile) and how they are looking for a good woman to settle down with. Seems that most of them live in NY and work in IT but are more than willing to travel for a perfect woman like myself. :)

I've been contacted by two scammer. Both were supposed engineers. To help other women avoid them, here are their stories:

#1 Structural Engineer, lives in Tacoma, divorced, no kids, originally from Italy. We emailed and IM'd for a week or so and then he had to fly to Lagos, Nigeria for a job contract on a bridge he was designing. At customs they confiscated his luggage and travelers cheques and he wouldn't get them back for a week. Would I please send he money so he could return home. If I didn't have it, would I borrow it from friends. Yeah, right!

#2 Chemical Engineer, lives in Beverly Hills, widowed, 1 daughter 6y/o, originally from Bosnia. We emailed and IM'd for 2 wks before he had to go to Holland for a job contract. It took him over 3 wks to ask for me to give him access to my bank account. Don't think so!

I get a kick out of playing along with them. Let them think they have a fish on the hook and then when they ask for money or bank access, drop the bomb on them. The main telltale signs with these guys are that your smile or looks just stopped them dead in their tracks and they had to write to get to know you; they immediately profess their undying love for you, they are financially very well off and want to marry you and give you everything you've ever desired. Unfortunately, many women fall for this. The last one occurred this week and I had his profile (escadda) removed from POF and contacted Yahoo with his email address and explained to them his scam. If any man contacts a woman on this, or any other site, and says he does job contracts outside of the country you are living in, do not believe him without absolute proof and never give them money or your private information. Contact POF (or whatever site they contacted you on) and their mail servers and have their accounts deleted.

I've never been contacted by a scammer on a dating site, but I did have one contact me using my full name (first, middle and last) through my university e-mail account less than a week after I activated it and had never even used it. That really pissed me off. The only people who should have had access to that info at that point should have been me and the university. But apparently they had a search function that you had to opt out of by going down to the techie office at school and fill out a form for. And you weren't told about this. I had to go down to the office with the e-mail and ask them how someone would be able to access this information to find out.

I've had two 419 scammers on other dating sites before. I could tell pretty quickly that they were fake, but kept in touch anyway just to see where it was going, and sure enough I'd end up with an e-mail about how they were stuck in some hotel in Nigeria.

One even supplied the e-mail address of the hotel. But I found it odd that a hotel had a Yahoo e-mail address. You'd think they would have their own domain name...

I had a scammer contact me to rent out my Condo. This person was from England she asked me to help pay for the cost to ship her stuff over here in returned she'd pay me $400.00. I found the exact same story but this time with a different girls profile. The funny thing is with all these scams coming from Nigeria, I have to feel sorry for people who are actually from Nigeria that are honest and actually want to work hard to further themselves. I think it'll cause people to think twice before answer a person who is from there.
