| Met someone on POF -- thanks for those who helped Posted: 12/6/2007 11:41:51 PM | During this past week I appealed to you guys for help on what to do when meeting someone for the first time in my previous thread: http://forums.plentyoffish.com/datingPosts8801583.aspx
I want to say thanks to those who pitched in with ideas.
For someone as rusty at this sort of thing as I am, I thought it went well (I didn't do anything stupid like throwing up from nervousness, LOL). Me and the nice woman met and we had a good time window-shopping in the mall at Garden City here on Long Island, which was good because I had to do some Christmas gift shopping in any case. The hours flew by and I didn't notice.
Anyway, not having dated in 18 years I was a bit awkward. Because of that I probably didn't feel as much of that "click" or "chemistry" everyone talked about, but hopefully that nice lady would at least think of me as a platonic friend, if not LTR material. I hope I came across as honest to her (I've been as truthful as I could on my profile). We'll see in the next few days if there will be a 2nd date.
Thanks all, good night, and have a good weekend!

It is tough putting yourself out there, but so worth it. Despite all the "pity me" threads and other nonsense that goes on here, there really are some great people here.

Maybe making a few platonic friends. Then when you are more comfortable you may be lucky enough to meet one that increases your heart rate just because they walked in the room...
I'm sure there are lots of women out there that would gladly put up with a little bit of "awkwardness" for some "what you see is what you get" honesty...
Almost everyone feels a little awkward meeting someone new, but if you put "Mr. Awkward" in your profile you are not likely to be doing yourself any favors...
