Has anyone else noticed this.
On profiles that do not have pics displayed, it now has this line....
Private Images (yes/no)
(it is located right below hair color)

To the best of my knowledge it isnt on profiles with pics.
That being said, I would think it would be valuable to know if everyone, pic displayed or not, had private images.
Curious to the reasoning behind this.

OK....I just checked that out! Yes, that does appear in profiles without pics. I looked at a few that had pics, and it wasn't there on those ones. Not sure what it is about, but I think we will find out soon enough.

So many people don't want to talk to someone without a picture. So I would venture to say it means that those people who don't show a picture have one they could send you if you wanted to see what they looked like. And obviously those who's profile says no don't have one.

I have a friend who has a profile where her picture is hidden. And it does say yes she has a private image.

Curious to the reasoning behind this.
I'm not sure what would be hard to understand about the reasoning?

I've seen this on other sites.
I'm certain the only reason for it is: when someone views a profile that doesn't have publicly posted pics, they're made aware that the person does have pics available to share.

it would be valuable to know if everyone, pic displayed or not, had private images.
why?
If someone does have a publicly displayed pic, it's pretty safe to make the assumption that they are capable of uploading pics on this site.
On the other hand:
If someone does not have a pic displayed, a viewer of their profile does not know if the person has any pics available for people to see, or if that person is able to upload pics, or is willing to share pics with anybody. The indicator on the profile simply notifies a viewer that they do have pics.

I am curious as to why this only shows for those without visible pics.

why?
If someone does have a publicly displayed pic, it's pretty safe to make the assumption that they are capable of uploading pics on this site.

I HIGHLY doubt this was put in place so we'd know whether or not people were brilliant enough to be able to upload pics. I suspect it is to let us know that they have the potential to share hidden pics with us if they choose to. That being said, I would also be interested in knowing if users with visible pics also have more hidden pics that they may wish to share. I don't see why this should only apply to those with all their pics hidden, why not make it for everyone with pics hidden? My ONLY point is I don't know why this is only on profiles without visible pics. Personally I would be curious to know EVERYONE that has hidden pics and not just some users.

Its so that other people know you have hidden pictures. For instance if you are a teacher its unlikely you want to display your picture publically.

It outs people like me who have chosen to have no pics at all on POF. I wait til later and do it through email once I feel more comfortable with some one or have known some one awhile first. In fact, I just sent my next potential date video of me in the animatronic's display in the downtown Macy's Christmas display. Some POF friends got the same video as a holiday greetings / E card of sorts, too.

It'll probably be a bit more of a disadvantage for me. Just because I don't have a picture it doesn't mean I am less serious about dating, it means I am moreso about finding some one I am compatible with long term.

PS -- I may also be the first POF user to have a running dialogue in his testimonials.

I wasn't meaning to imply that people who have pics uploaded are more brilliant than those who are.
Believe it or not, some people still may not have access to a digital camera or a scanner.

If I see a profile with no pic, I don't automatically assume the person's not smart enough to upload.
But I'd wonder if the person did have images any images uploaded on this site. This feature simply eliminates that uncertainty.
(At one time I had no picture displayed on my own profile, and I'd made a point of mentionning in my profile's "about me" that i did have picturess available.

I really don't know how that would serve the intention, which the admin had in mind while creating the feature?

Also,
in some ways, I would see it as being an invasion of privacy.
here's an example:
An attractive young woman has a couple of pictures displayed on her profile, and a couple more that she choses to keep hidden.
--Perhaps they're more revealing "tit and ass" pictures that she only shares with a few people?
or
--Perhaps they're pictures of her with her child, which she doesn't display publicly, but shares with her favorites?
When every guy on this site sees that this attractive woman has "hidden" pictures, as well as her profile picture, every guy naturally makes the assumption that they must be revealing bra and pantie pictures.
She's then suddenly overwhelmed with emails from perverts, asking to see the "hidden" pictures, when possibly all she tried to do was share a personal family picture with someone on her favorites list.

Can't this same logic be applied to all people that have hidden pics?

I think the major use is probably some women whined so they can be shallow because I believe bigfish when he says that profiles without pictures have just as good looking women as the ones who don't. In fact I know one woman, who shall remain nameless for her own sake, who never had face shots or closeups until that face showing rule went into effect. Then she got so bombarded by pms she almost had to leave POF for good. But she is smart and figured a way around it. I count myself proud to be one of just 4 people she now has on her favs.

Some people do not want to write some one else unless they are going to instantly produce a picture. One night I had a woman from another state IM me then when I told her I don't have a pict on POF to share she blocked me right there in the IM. I thought that was pretty funny/shallow for a married person from another state.

I think that is a good point, though. People with hidden pics will get harassed for their hidden pics. I know some women have told me already this happens. They get pestered for more pics. I think this may only open a door to more abuse.

I feel this "feature" only benefits the shallow users. Sorry.

Thats exactly what I thought too cause they arent exactly hidden if its posted on your profile you have them.

Its so that other people know you have hidden pictures.

Maybe we should re-phrase it as 'Available' rather than 'Hidden'.

I think it's a good idea to let people know that there are pics available
from that person. I don't mind that some don't want to post a pic for public
viewing, but knowing that they can send me one makes it more likely that
I will reply.

I would think this could become problematic (UNLESS it's an option that the user chooses to execute, vs. a feature that is either a default, or one that is forced on them) because I imagine if someone chooses to share their pics with someone else, they'll do so. Alerting others that they might do so could open the door to negative reactions when someone realizes this person has them, but chooses to not share them with them.

for the less than mature user who cannot accept such an action and react in a somewhat uncivil or juvenile manner - the solution is quite simple.

Use the the El Block-o feature.

Just out of curiosity:

If the profile contains Private Images, does that bypass the
'Must have Pic to Message' Filter?
If it does, are the pics automatically sent with the message,
or is it at the discretion of the Private Images profile owner ?

I like to be in the know.

The POF MAIL: First Contact Email Automatically Attaches All Photos feature still works the same as it does.

Simply noting that a person has hidden photos will not affect the operation of the email filter.

I have been on POF for about a month or so and decided to make my image private. Can't seem to do that to an existing image so had to delete it. I would have liked to attach the photo to my email messages but did not have that option. I'd prefer to have my profile show as Image=Private so everyone knows that I do have a photo but that is not an option for an existing profile. I did think about re-creating my prof but doubt if I will - don't want to lose the info and contacts I have really. I have also noticed that ALL emails from the same contact with a private photo show the photo which I like.

ok

Can't seem to do that to an existing image so had to delete it.

What do you mean you couldn't make an "existing" image private?

Simply uncheck the box in the "Show on Profile" column that corresponds to the image you wish to hide.

I would have liked to attach the photo to my email messages but did not have that option

You can and should, if you have a picture in your profile, hidden or not. Your pictures will appear at the bottom of your email composition page, simply click the checkbox associated with the picture you want to attach.

I'd prefer to have my profile show as Image=Private so everyone knows that I do have a photo but that is not an option for an existing profile

It does show, not exactly phrased as you want it, but it still conveys the correct status of wether you have pictures hidden or not:

If you do not show a picture on your profile, and you have one hidden, then your profile will read Private Images Yes

If you do not show a picture on your profile , and you don't have one hidden, then your profile will read Private Images No

I have also noticed that ALL emails from the same contact with a private photo show the photo which I like.

and .... ?

There's your first mistake. Under NO circumstances would I wade
through two months of chatting without a pic.
Two messages is all the leeway I give. If your pic is not attached by the
second message, I stop replying, and I tell them that.

It's fine to trust people who keep images private, as long as they are willing
to share them......and soon. The ones who don't have any pics available, or want me to view them off this site.....they get very little of my attention.

I get POF e-mails from guys with no pictures with their profiles quite often. What bothers me is that they don't even have a private image of themselves to send me and they expect me to give them my email address so they can send me one. If they have a picture to send me through my e-mail address, then why can't they have a private image picture ready to send me?? I hear all kinds of excuses from them too why they can't send me a picture , like they don't know how to do it. Come on!! I think that's a very lame excuse!! They can click on HELP or get a friend to help them. If you are serious about being on this site and wanting to find someone, then take it serious!! It's not that I don't have a minute to send them my address, it's the principle here. If you are not going to take it seriously, then why should I take you seriously. So guys, if you don't have a picture to send me within the second message, then I won't message you back.
