What if "Internet Dating" didn't exist

How would you meet or approach someone of interest? would you rely on the "bar-scene"? take out an ad in the newspaper? rely on friends to set you up w/someone?
Just a thought.

Friends of friends is how it was when I was a teenager. School sanctioned parties, dances. Community sanctioned parties, dances. Friend's parties. Skating arenas (yeah really).

The newspaper ad is sounding a great idea every day.

No internet would probably mean (for me) that i wouldn't have met half the people i know now... learned half the brutal dating lessons i learned.... and would probably still be single anyway.

The only loss would be the lack of experience.

Without the internet I'd probably meet people the same way i do now.. travelling on the bus, going to gathering, bars, cafe's... etc.

~OT~ I'd be in the real world finding the only jerk in the room. It's pretty simple ~ if he's out there, he's all mine. PFT....without the net, I'd be dating some good ol' boy that watches NASCAR, the Seahawks and drinks entirely too much beer on Sunday afternoon.....oh wait ~ those are my plans for the day ~ crap, I've been captured to the real world. Sigh.

1. I treat the internet as more entertainment than anything - at times I approach people that interest me regardless of where I am - to be honest, I see more that interests me in real life than I do on the net. Always have.

2. I don't look to date as a goal, so that urgency or feeling that many have to search different mediums to find some sort of soulmate isn't really in my line of thinking. Living life and enjoying it regardless and meeting people as I do so is more my speed. If I meet someone and things click, that's just icing on the cake.

If there weren't an internet, I suppose that I would have had to rely on grocery store "pick ups". It's not that hard to make a "quick hit" date for "a drink after work". None of those meetings ever led to much, but if there were no other options, it would be that or nothing. I can't imagine, at 57, trolling in a singles bar, as I did at 25.

If it didn't exist, I would have never gone out on date one, or had a girlfriend. Period.

I don't approach women in person, that simply does not happen.

Women don't approach me in person, that simply does not happen.

I had a friend try and set me up with someone that I would not have been remotely interested in. You would think that after knowing me for 25 of the 27 years I've been alive, he could be more accurate in his matchmaking.... apparently not.

Ultimately, my failures, both personal and professional, are mine to bear and only I can be to blame.

Hypothetical situation in a grocery store:

Me: Gee, I see you're buying some instant oatmeal... that's pretty sexy. Want to see where I live?
Them: Why are you talking to me?
Me: I was going for some toaster pastries and you were here... I'm lonely.
Them: Toaster pastry is all you're getting pal.
Me: But toaster pastry won't fill the hunger of my empty soul.
Them: I'm calling the manager.
Me: Brad? They make me put on a monitoring device when I come into the store... a strike squad is already on their way.
:: 4 Heavily muscled street toughs in deli smocks tackle me to the ground::
Them: Make sure to tenderize his ball area!
Me: Allegedly! AHHHHH!
::Several vicious beatings later and outside the store sitting in a pile of my own make::
Me: These little store outings are going to be the death of me... at least there were fewer kidney punches this time.
Random Street Urchin: Shine your shoes 'govna?
Me: What the hell?! Did I get transported to a different time and place?

Dididididiiiiiiiii do do do do do diiiiiiii

Find out same giggleparts time, same giggleparts channel!
The end

P.S. I was, in fact, in a coma and had several misadventures in my own personal Nemo land.

the giggleparts - If I ask for a raise and they laugh at me, slap me on the back, and then ask a few other people to come into the room to take my picture... is that a good thing?

I would never had the amount and type of abuse that i currently get now. Without even leaving the house. And from all over the world ! Maybe i can get on that T.V. show the biggest looser. Except that they mean weight, and i am only 155 lbs.

One of the nice things about the internet, is that you can only be "abused", if you allow it. There is a "delete" button, and it works really well. In a similar vein, one doesn't have to prepare himself for the "numbers game" as one does for real life venues. You don't have to hang around and feel embarrassed. You just click "next" and forget all about it.

if it didn't exist, i'd probably rely on friends to set me up or just charm them with my naturally good looks. honestly, though, i've only gone on 3 internet dates. i have spoken with a lot of personable fishies of both species, though, so that helps me with my extra time and loneliness. it seems like i get hit on most when i'm on vacation - vegas, florida, mexico. i guess that's just the mood - resting and relaxing and maybe getting lucky. i do have to say, though, my brother who was lonely for many years found his wife on a chat room and they seem to be happy as clams.

Writing to prisoners on death row worked quite well before I found PoF.

Volunteering in asylums was another option that I was considering, but did not quite get to it.... YET.

Almost forgot, stalking that cute guy from accross the street.

Than we would be limited to what's in front of us and surrounding us. We would have to go out more and extend ourselves to those we meet.
Funny, I have made it a rule never to date someone I have met in a bar or club. Crazy as it may sound, it has worked for me. I see every man as taken. I like to screen a little before I go out. I knew the guy I am dating now for at least 5 months before we even went out. But, if I didn't have the internet, who knows I may feel differently about the ones I meet in real life.

Without the Internet, I certainly would not have met some really exciting people in my life.
I remember how it was before, but I hope I don't have to return to it.
Everyone can flirt at the grocery store, but I only ended up with one date and that was a guy that helped me with some steak (he was a meat cutter, back in school and working part time...it was pretty cool).
A couple actually from church, many from the bar scene, some from work situations and a couple that got in their car and came knocking after hearing my voice. So much easier now.

If there wasn't Internet Dating? Well, seeing as how I see every woman I see out in the real world as either family (surrounded by family), taken, or not interested (as in not interested in me as a person, or as in me as a man), I would do about the same thing as I do now, well the results would be the same anyways. That is to say that the results would be that I get completely ignored. Am I bitter about that? No. I'm actually fine with being single, for the most part. In the end, my dates would be non-existent, kinda like now.

I think we'd all have more of a social life if the Internet didn't exist. This is not the best way to meet someone.

Some of you guys are"hilarious"!!! I luv it!!!!! , I had to think back b4 internet dating started and to be honest, I've met the coolest and most genuine guys in passing, whether it's at the grocery store, restaurant ( when I'm already on a date 4 some reason, lol), or even at the Dr's office.
I usually take forever to meet a guy from the internet, met a guy once w/in a week of talking to him (bad choice), and will never do that again, but I've met some really great people who are just "friends", I helped my god-brother write poetry to a woman he met via the internet, they've been married for almost 10yrs now, so the internet is good for some of us, huh.

OP.......if it weren't for the internet, perhaps people would get bsck to what was known as communication. Where people actually talked to each other, as in face to face. We4 all remember talking, don't we? To refresh your memory talk is, to express or exchange ideas, by means of the spoken word.

Not sure, since I don't do the bar scene, and outside of my kid's activities, don't have a lot of hobbies outside the house. Maybe join a group for one of my hobbies, like photography..or take a course...who knows.

I'd probably already be married lol Too many options have left me single and childless at 31 :( I guess that's better than being divorced and single mom at 31..who knows. But i think internet dating has left us with too many options, always raising the bar, etc.
