Suppose the tables were turned and your boss is an older woman. Would you have an affair with her to get a promotion? Would you depend on how attractive she is? I'm just curious. | |

If I was up for a promotion, and she was one of the people to cast her ballot, would she use that for me or against me? If she voted to promote me, would it be because of my professionalism, or because of my bedroom skills?
What if the affair ended..and ended POORLY! Would you be able to work in that kind of atmosphere?

Posted: 12/11/2007 8:21:58 PM | Simply no.... very poor (and illegal in the U.S.) for her to put you in that position and has the potential of a career limiting (or ending) move for the both of you. Anyone placing a co-worker in that position is neither thinking about the company, themselves, or you professionally. The fantasy is AWESOME, but the reality should not be entertained!

Posted: 12/11/2007 8:40:23 PM | If I had an older female boss who could provide career and industry insight, open doors and advance my career within the company, then I'd want to develop a strong professional relationship with her. If she was interested in me on a personal level, I'd certainly give some thought to possibilities. There would have to be at least some compatibility for any intimate activity to occur. However, if she's an intelligent, assertive, effective leader, she's attractive already. Anyway, if she's my boss and she wants me, I'm probably going to have to go along with it anyway.
If she's decently attractive, she just wants a fling, and the promotion is a sure thing, then it's a no brainer. However, if she's looking for long term and I don't see things developing that way, it would be unethical to lead her on just to get a promotion. | |

If there is a serious chance of a long term relationship happening and the two people are adults then an exception to the above saying might be called for. But for the situation you are asking about is just asking for problems and is at its core a poor decision to accept. There are too many other ladders to climb, if that is something you like doing, that are much more healthy than that horrible situation. | |
