In the January 2008 issue, one of the facts is.
According to a study by the National Sexuality Research Center, 30% of women who meet a man online have sex with him on the first date.
I was just wondering what the POFers think about this.
I have not had a first date since 1993, so I can't relate. | |

Posted: 12/12/2007 8:46:25 PM | Considering all the communication that has probably gone on before the 1st meeting ,I'd say 30% is a little disappointing.
Most people would have spent time e-mailing, then IM and maby web caming , then talking on the phone. I would imagine they would spend much more time getting to know each other before meeting in person than if they picked up someone in a bar.
I'll bet that the one overriding factor that keeps people from having sex from an Internet prospect is the fact that one or both of the people didn't turn out to look like what they advertised. | |

Posted: 12/12/2007 8:52:36 PM | In my experience, it doesn't matter HOW MUCH you've talked before hand, but WHAT you've said.
I'm quite open about my sexuality. I put girls at ease, knowing I'm not going to be up in their face about it. They can flirt and talk about whatever they want-I'm not a desperate chump.
Then, when we meet, it's simply more proof-I'm the same guy. Sex isn't a big deal, and we can both be as sexual as we are comfortable with. I talk about actual shit in my life, and take a genuine interest in hers. See if I'm into her.
Guess what? more like 60% of girls I have met have been sex first "date" ( I don't date, more like first meeting) It's not such a hard thing to understand. Get over the stigma, and do what pleases you.
Oh, and **** what other people think. You live your life by societies rules, you get the same shitty results. If it's not working, try something, ANYTHING different. Enjoy yourself, this stuff isn't as complicated as you all make it seem.

Well, if you got an incurable STD from your one night stand, that would be "meaningful", wouldn't it?
Just as meaningful as married couples when one of them cheats and brings an std home to their wife/husband.
STD's aren't reserved to just single people looking for sex.

Gee - you think (?) they targeted specific sites instead of the general public? Anyone can put together a poll thats non-representative of the general public and keep polling until they get the "faqs" they're looking for...Most statistics and polls I've come across produce a much lower percentage. Do those 30% of women *always* have sex with a man on the first date, whereas the other 70% don't?
Or is it 30% of women who have met a man from the internet have slept with *someone* they met online on the first date (but just not with *every* man they met online), but the other 70% never do?
Or is it 30% of first meetings that take place result in sex? In which case that's going to be heavily skewed by the girls that have a lot of first dates and sleep with many of them, as opposed to the ones that may not sleep with a guy on the first date, but might end up seeing the same guy for months before having another first date (and so have few first dates). So it would still be way less than 30% of women who are likely to do it.
It's also going to depend on the context of the first date. I mean, if you go out for coffee in the middle of the afternoon or you only have an hour or so to spend with someone before you have other plans, there's obviously far less chance of having sex than if you go for a night out or something and would be staying at their place anyway. | |
