Which are you?I love both, but I tend to be partial to cats.I admire their independence.I love dogs too,but the dog trait that most dog people like dogs for turns me off.Their boot licking, unquestioning loyalty doesn't sit well with me.I don't really feel much for something who's existence is based soley on me.I don't want anything worshipping me.I like dogs for protection and they're fun to play chase the stick with from time to time, but they remind me of people who have no life and no interests of their own.A cat has things to do.They have annoying things like mice, rats and snakes to stalk, torture and kill, which is another thing I love about cats. When mice, rats or bugs invade my home,I take it personal.I just don't want them dead,I want them to suffer a long time, die and then go to vermin hell.I just love the way a cat stalks a rat, slaps it around, bites off pieces of it a bit at a time and when it's almost of the brink of coma, the cat ingenously revives it again for more torture.
I have one cat and one dog.A tabby and a pit bull. They get along fine together. The pit bull is awesome. The recent attempt to ban them is based on ignorance and the fact that there are lowlifes who breed them for fighting. She's a sweet dog,but she has a face that looks like she came right out of hell and she scares annoying sales people and Jehovah Witnesses away. She's harmless but provides great sight protection and I have no doubt she would tear up anyone who tried to enter uninvited.
But still for attitude,I prefer cats. They're more like me.

Definitely cats. I had a bad experience with a German Shepherd when I was 5.

I like most animals and have had plenty of em over the years... I'm more of a dog person...I love a mutt!!! I love their affection and feel reassured by their presence. It was weird coming home for awhile with no one greeting me at the door. Cats are cool too but I'm allergic to certain breeds. Right now I love my chinchilla and need more space before I look into getting more animals.

I tend to be more partial to cats - only becuase they have such attitude...there is nothing more satisfying than listening to him purr while he cuddles up...

I'm a dog person all the way. I lived with two cats for a year. We feuded over territorial rights to a lazy boy chair. It escalated to full blown psychological warfare. Needless to say, they won. Never underestimate cats they're smarter than you think. Oops can't write now, the cat just walked in the room and I think he suspects something's up.

I am a total cat person.. I love them and they love me. I have two of my own.. they are my babies. However.. I do love dogs too.. but simply not independant enough. But should I ever get a place big enough and getting a dog was an option - big dogs are the way to go.. never could understand the concept of a small, lap dog.

I am a dog person…always have been, always will be.

I love dogs because they are without a doubt the most lovable creatures inhabiting this world.

I like both. Maybe with a slight edge on dogs. I have more distinct memories of my old pet dogs than I do of cats.

Cats, for the reasons Taurus listed. They seem more intelligent and more like people in their thought processes. Plus they don't smell like dogs do (an hour after petting a cat I'm not still washing my hands trying to get the smell off me).

The #1 reason to have cats instead of dogs - you never, never, have someone rushing off home to let their cat out. Every time I run across some dog person doing that, I ask them, "Did you always WANT to be the slave to a dog's bladder - or did you just get sucked into it somehow?"
