Does your choice say something significant about your life? How would you like to be remembered? Also, if you had consciousness, would you be offended if certain people didn't attend your funeral? I've been surprised at how few people attended the funerals of some, who were quite popular in life.

My wish is to be cremated and then turned into diamonds. White and blue ones. Past me out to friends and loved ones.
No service just rent a hall or a place and have a party like it was a wedding. Too much sorrow in the world. I'd rather people laugh than cry. Oh, if anyone fights over any of my stuff I want it that item burned on the spot like Fahrenheit 451! Don't care what it is, books, money, housing, cars, pets, wife, or children...lol!

I joked one day to a friend that all those graveyard are just there doing nothing. A spot has a limited time it is useful. I thought it would be cool to setup a disc golf course in them, headstones as obstacles!

I will be already be gone on my journey
So throw my flesh to the raging fire
Scatter my ashes on the river to return to the sea
I am an insignificant mote in a vast universe
Remember me in your heart, not with material gesture
Rejoice that I will be learning the answers
I so deeply sought in this life.

I like what Bob Hope said when his family asked him the same question shortly before he passed away;

"Surprise me!"

Here is how I'd like to be handled:

If at all feasible, my still fresh corpse is to be sealed/encased in a clear plastic/glass like substance. It could be shaped oblong, rectangular, or to the contour of my body, it's not important. Then I would like to be launched out into space, either to establish an orbit around the sun, thus becoming a part of the solar system and also becoming a part of everyone's astrological data... or just launched in a trajectory to the furthest point from earth... if I don't happen to make it there, ie get sucked into a black hole, or collide with a sun.. oh well, I'm DEAD! It doesn't matter..

And if I had my way, and the money... that's how I'd want it.

Never really put any thought into it, except in terms of the environment. We can't all fit in those graveyards, so I suppose cremation will be my way to go; just so long as they have a superefficient oven that eliminates any toxins that would have been spewn into the atmosphere.

I'll tell you what I don't want to have done to me: have my naked body displayed in one of those museum exhibits where they sculpt bodies to show different aspects of the human body. I haven't seen it but I heard they display corpses of people who had cancer and open up the cavity so people can see in. I just don't want my friends and family seeing me exposed like that

Depending on the manner of my demise...

Anything useful will be donated for transplant. Whatever is left over should be turned into fertilizer. (Burial and cremation are not very environment-friendly... )

Donate whatever is still useable...

Not buried for sure...I'm claustrophobic! No coffin... maybe a nice periwinkle shroud!

I'd really like a funeral pyre... you know, those big built up thingies, by the ocean. And I'd like my family and friends to have a party.. a real Irish Wake. When I drop in to see my funeral I'd like to see my loved ones sharing their memories and celebrating my life.

no ultra quiet sad funeral parlour...ick

HOMEGROWN TOMATOES
by Guy Clark

There ain't nothin' in the world that I like better
than bacon 'n lettuce 'n home grown tomatoes
up in the mornin', out in the garden
Get you a ripe one, don't pick a hard 'un
plant 'em in the spring, eat 'em in the summer
all winter without 'em is a culinary bummer
I forget all about the sweatin'and diggin'
every time I go out and pick me a big 'un

home grown tomatoes, home grown tomatoes
what would life be like without home grown tomatoes
only two things that money can't buy
And that's true love and home grown tomatoes

you can go out to eat and that's for sure
but its nothin that a home grown tomato won't cure
You can put 'em in a salad , put 'em in a stew
You can make your own tomato juice
You can eat 'em with eggs, eat 'em with gravy
you can eat 'em with beans, pinto or navy
put 'em on the side , or you can put 'em in the middle ,
put a home grown tomato on a hotcake griddle

home grown tomatoes, home grown tomatoes
what would life be like without home grown tomatoes
only two things that money can't buy
That's true love and home grown tomatoes

if I was to change this life I lead
I'd be Johnny tomato seed
'cause I know what this country needs
Home grown tomatoes in every yard you see
when I die don't bury me
in a box in a cold dark cemetery
Out in the garden would be much better
And I could be pushin 'up home grown tomatoes

home grown tomatoes, home grown tomatoes
what would life be like without home grown tomatoes
only two things that money can't buy
and that's true love and home grown tomatoes

When I was younger, I'd occasionally try and think of a tactful way to keep folks (my folks in particular) from praying over my carcass. Not believing in god, I found the thought irritating. Since then, I've come to realize that I won't be in a position to care, so trying to stop them would be a bit prickish on my part.

As far as burial goes, I think Henry Rollins said it best: "Real estate is for the living". I don't want to be buried. I want to be disposed of.

Any bits that can be of use to anyone, should be used. Beyond that, all I have to say is that I demand a pauper's death. I find it galling how the death 'industry' gouges folks at their lowest ebb, and if whoever's in charge of dealing with my body spends one penny more than they absolutely have to, I'll have a tape of me calling them names played at them or something.

And that's about as much thought as I've put into that.

I don't have a specific preference as to where I am buried,as long as I am buried.

I don't believe in cremation,for a few reasons.

Plus,I've always had a fear of fire.

Would I be upset if certain people did not attend my funeral? No I wouldn't.

When your dead and gone, does it really matter???

I really have no preference... I'll be gone.
Funerals are for the living... to help them say good by and process grief. Whatever helps my loved ones.

Still, I wonder if I should "make up" some preferences... sometimes what gives people the greatest comfort is the notion they have arranged your funeral the way "you would have wanted it".

Hopefully I'd be concerned with other, more important issues, like: Where can I find my Dad? And, other things like that.

Amongst trees and saplings, so they can absorb and benefit from my decomposing body... I will be giving life.

Burials and cremations are not envirnomentally friendly I guess.

Neither of my parents were buried, nor did they have a funeral. Life just continued as life is meant to and they live on in the hearts and memories of the people that knew them. Put my body to good use because I will no longer be needing it and let my friends and family remember me with a smile, each in their own way. Life goes on.

I would like my brain to be preserved for future insertion into a shiny new cyborg body (preferably a 40-foot one that's also capable of spaceflight).

This post is gonna look great on my profile when it shows up in the "last 5 posts" section

If at all feasible... I'd go for having my body launched into space in the direction of a far-off system inside some kind of protective casing. Who knows? Maybe my body will be discovered by some far-off alien race hundreds or thousands of years later. If not and I hit a black hole, star, planet or what have you... it's as a previous poster said: who cares? I'm already dead!

If that's not feasible... then I'd likely just donate my body for medical/scientific purposes. I'd like to be doing some kind of good, even in death.

Cremated and the ashes used to fertilize a rose bush in the yard or in a park.....If I have to be ugly, might as well bring some beauty in after I'm gone!

Spiritual Tourist, I take it you agree with your parents in not having a funeral. But funerals are mainly for the living. Don't funerals have an important function in allowing loved ones to publicly grieve their loss?

Man hatten: Absolutely, funerals are for the living!! I will happily give up all say in what happens to my body when I die and if a funeral will help the people I love, then go ahead. I just found that feeling the continuance of my parents was far more peaceful and rewarding than the alternative. They are not "lost" because I see and feel them everywhere, even in the mirror .
I KNOW and RESPECT that other people don't share my casual acceptance of death. I only ask that they respect that it was an awareness that came from some very painful lessons and not because I don't care. I care very much.

These are the steps, in order:

1) Wait until I 'die'.

2) Whisk my body immediately (on life support) to my friend's neurosurgery laboratory. My friend Heinrich will transplant my brain into the body of a healthy, fit 18 year old guy who died of something like a single bullet to the brain.

3) Schedule my funeral for 1 month afterwards. Already pre-arranged.

4) Then, organ donation of anything to help others. Yeah, we're nice guys.

5) If there aren't any 'Soylent Green' factories functioning yet, just deliver my refrigerated leftover remains to my friend Pierre. He's an investor who owns a well-known restaurant, and we've already discussed some very imaginative recipes. He's a fun guy who likes playing games and little practical jokes on his rich customers.

6) A month later I'll be in shape to go to my own funeral (closed-casket), expertly arranged by my friend Mauricio, who's just called "the wizard" by his friends. A fake cremation follows, as a cover-up. If certain people don't show up and say nice things about me, I'll soon be going to their funeral.

7) I dig up some of the hidden gold that's been accumulating for quite a while, and get my new identification documentation from my good friend Seymor who's a historian (among other things!). Then I continue with my goals using my refreshened life, better body, and perfect health.

8) Repeat, as necessary, from step 1.

Next time I'll be the neurosurgeon. It'll be my turn again.
Heinrich will become the restaurant owner & chef, Pierre will be 'the wizard', Mauricio will be the historian, and Seymor will be the genius mad scientist.
We've been friends & partners for ages and ages, each depositing gold to our shared vault. The new ID papers help each of us through the cycles. We aren't bothered by those nasty rumors about missing abducted 18 year old athletes or even about the... but never mind about that stuff! I don't want to bore you with trivial details.
