Ive got this problem at the moment....

I do believe I have the neighbours from hell !!

I wouldnt mind shes moved out to next door but one to her new alki bf (she s always drunk may i add ) afew weeks ago but still keeps coming back for what ever reason to the marital home.

After yet another day/stroke night of my neighbours arguing... what do you do ??

The walls are sooo thin you hear everything... shes had black eyes broke jaw etc..

She goes round when isd .. starts with hubby.. it gets heated.. blah blah blah...( and yes next time u rev ur engine i will call the police for drunk driving )

So doors slammed Ill kill you you bastrad , followed by trying to break windows but shes soo pisd she misses .. this goes on into the early hours... then shes proper creating criminal damage by trying to tear gates off etc... the police are constantly there and know her on first name terms its soo bad...

I thought some one knocked at my door.. so i went like you do.. just as she was shouting to lover boy next door to one.. do you think my neighbours want to hear this.. to which i was soo mad i screamed at her NO I FOOKING DONT IM SICK OF HEARING YOU ,KEEP IT INSIDE...BLAH BLAH BLAH LOL.. to which she said... ohhh sorry babe .. lol .. ...

But ive had enough ? how much do i have to listen too ? they are stressing me out with arguing which is why i live their in the first place. To escape to my own surreal world which has turned out kak !! Would you knock on door and say oi quit it i had enough or just ring police saying violent domestic to get them there quicker ?

I have started to keep a diary it happens so often... but dont know what to do .. what would you do ?

I had various problems wit neighbours for something like 3 years.
I was told to keep record blah blah blah.
FInally stopped when one of them threatened me on my doorstep and was formally cautioned by the Police - next time... jail. He moved out from his mum.
There is no intercom where I live (plans to install one in Feb 08) - druggies etc all day/night.
Since I got my furry little girsl - less problems.

Can you move?

This could be easier than you think.

the local council (its better if its council accom) have depts to deal with this one.

I had a similar thing (with private housing) and rang council (think it was environmental health of all things)

anyway they can issue a cease and desist order based on noise pollution i beleive.

its enforcable in law too if it persists.

I do empathise with you having been through a similar thing many years ago

If its a council/housing association property then make a complaint and keep a regular diary as they do have the powers to evict them for their behaviour!! Sometimes the possibility that they will be evicted is enough to get them to tone it down. Are other neighbours fed up with it as well? Maybe you can get others to keep diaries as well???

It worked for us and the people involved were evicted and peace was upon us once more so dont give up

To do that they have to install themselves in your home to measure the level of noise from inside your place. If this happenes regularly - you may have a chance.

I also had neighbours downstairs who every Sunday, after church would have a party in the communal garden ... sometimes till 3 am. Got them this way.

C'mon, every Sunday?

I have to get up to work.....

its a morgaged property... i know enviromental health can help with noise.. but an official has to be there to record the decibels... its not often enough for them to attend. As if they did like tonight with finger on police button... they stopped... (maybe it was screaming ill ring the police if this doesnt stop...an they heard )I do believe its an anti social behaviour thing... shes fooking nuts !"!! And why should I or other neighbours put up with that ?

^^^ theirs is morgaged and up for sale ... i so hope they sell soon lol

who says an official has to be there???

you can make a complaint, as long as you log times and details.

they can send letter based on this (think you have to fill enviro form out first).

you can also hire decibel meters (dont think they are too expensive to buy)

if they fail to cease, then an official will come out, and it can be enforced on the spot.

My place they have to be inside my flat to measure the noise themselves.
They would not accept anything else.

Call the police and turn your tunes up, don't get involved. As you say, theirs is up for sale, if they don't tear it apart they may actually sell it.

I despair for you girl.

Those drunken argey bargeys aren't easily resolved.

It might be worth checking too if your local council has Anti Social Behaviour hotlines, as ours does.
I totally feel for you, as i live in terraced property with my son and i have scum either side (it was a lovely street til they moved in!) and as i type one lot of neighbours are drunk (again, this is nightly) and shouting and ranting and banging about the place! Earlier on they had xmas music on (!!!) and were shouting "call the police" in a taunting way!
On the other side, this Lauren from Catherine Tate type lass decides to play Leona Lewis's Bleeding Love all hours of the day on repeat!!! you wont believe how sick of that song i am, and shes not a young lass either!! its like living next door to tracy barlow when she "goes upstairs to play her tapes!!" lol.
I got a letter the other day saying there had been complaints and could i offer any more info, so i wrote a lovely lengthy email to them tonight!! lol
I know you say should you knock on their door etc, and yeah in the beginning it may work, but they then start taking the pee and you could be doing it a number of times, and if he hits her, what would he do to you?? no, your safety is paramount and you need to get someone with more authority involved.
Good luck with it, and i hope you get somewhere with it
In the meantime, i believe the poundshop has earplugs in stock!! lol

I was throwing carrots and potatoes at the roof of the marque the idiots used to put in the communal garden every Sunday and sing to jesus till 3 am

Also had Enrique Iglesis on full blast at 5 am in response to another lot downstairs celebrating whatever on full volume at 4-5 am for a month.

Bucket of water mixex with content of cat litter box over the heads of little chavs on the staircase after midnight was common.

Now with the dog - all I need to do is say "Who is there" and she does the job - they just run.

I had this problem some time ago. The Enviromental Health dept. of the council installed a decibal measuring device which also included a tape recorder, they installed it and locked it and then left, all I had to do was switch it on from outside the case when the problems started. I also had to keep diaries for them. Then you need to get a petition organised with all the neighbours that are involved, get statements from each of them. It took a little time but it does/can work. I was also informed that the police will not get involved unless there is criminal damage or violence committed or threatened. Enviromental Health deal with noise complaints now.

Be carefull what you say too. Good luck

I find the best thing to get noisy neighbours who like to stay up late is buy yourself a nice stereo, with good bass and a hardcore dance cd or some heavy metal or maybe some good old Neil Diamond, speakers to the wall at an early hour and go out for the WHOLE day :-)

We had quite a bad problem with neighbours when I first moved in, there was one sister with 7 children on one side of the street and another with 3 more monsters on the other. I rang the police daily after smashed/egg windows, fighting in the street till god knows when and foul mouth children who abused anyone who dared to leave their house. I had never heard a 3 yr old use the "C" Word before.

We now have 3 cctv cameras on the street and funnily enough they are behaving!

I had put up with crap for 4 years from an ex neighbour who finally got moved. Only because they knocked that side of the street down.

I had to call the police at least once a week for her antics. Once had one of her house guests literally take a shit on my door step. She was caught by her son outside her house, giving some guy a blow job for a crate of Stella.

Called social services on her because her kids weren't being supervised. Police found drugs/needles in her house more than once.

Housing gave many people in the street nuisance books to fill in.

What did they do? Fooke all!

I don't know what else you can do, other than if you get no joy from the housing, go higher and keep complaining until action is taken.

After I separated from my ex, I kept in contact with an elderly lady (87 at the time) who I had known since I was a child (Long story, but basically the house had come to us through my family)

When my ex realised that this neighbour had witnessed certain questionable behaviour by my ex and her large family, they started a rather nasty campaign of victimising her.

She recieved verbal abuse and hand gestures through her own living room window while she watched TV, suffered rubbish and other very unpleasant items being thrown in her garden, and her life was made generally unpleasant and uncomfortable. Worse still, I learned my own children and their friends participated in this animal behaviour.

The poor woman was petrified, but too scared to go to the Police because she felt it would make things worse and she came from a generation that feared the Police. In fact she'd never had any involvement with the police in her entire life.

It was heartbreaking to recieve calls from this old lady, almost in tears, reporting their latest round of bullying, and begging me to try to ask them to stop. I always feel I let her down because, given the acrimony of the divorce, there was nothing I could do except reassure her it would cease when the house was sold. I also implored her to notify the police despite her reluctance as a visit might be enough to discourage it in future. Her answer was she survived Hitler, so she could survive this.

In the end she suffered 2 years of intimidation, bullying and nastiness before regaining peace and quiet when the house finally sold.

For contrast, the neigbour on the other side was a younger man who shared the same views of them and had witnessed the same actions as seen by the old lady. But they didn't terrorise him! They knew this guy wouldn't have been intimidated and left him alone. Yes, bullies always go for the weaker prey!

I'm glad the lady now has her peace and sanity back at last.

There was a recent radio phone in on this very subject. Depressingly it seems that despite the various legal possibilities, there is often little that can be done. People can make your life hell without breaking decibel limits. They recommend that usually, the best recourse is to try to make friends with your neighbour.
I actually did this with astounding results. Yes the noise continued but the intimidation ceased - and eventally he was carted off to prison where he belonged.

I had 16 years of sheer hell from one of my neighbours and her brats! And then the last 5 years her sister and her brats got the house next to her and joined in. Constant verbal abuse, intimidation from her brats, and property damage. The intimidation stretched to my visitors. All because when I first moved in I politely asked the kids not to kick the football over my 6-foot fence as the force they used I'm surprised my windows never caved!
I didn't want to involve the police as I thought it was trivial, not to mention my concerns about possible recriminations. So I endured, to the point where I now shake seeing a group of more than 3 youths together, worse if I have to pass by them.
I just wish I'd done things differantly and not allowed them to s**t on me as they did. If I'd done what I wanted to do, maybe I'd have been jailed, but it would have been worth it!
Rather than going round you're better off involving the police, even if it does take them over 24 hours to respond!! Just tell them the neighboutrs are refusing to give your football back, they seem to repond pretty quick to that!!

The best you could do is just log the times and dates and then put in an official complaint. I had a lot of problems with my neighbour, unfortunately, I was told, because he had parkinsons disease, there was nothing they could do. If the case had gone to court, it would have been quashed due to his medical background.

He moved out around 3 months ago and now totally dreading what the neighbours are going to be like. As bad as he was, I guess in the end, I knew just what to expect.
