| POF Polar Bear Swim 2008 ~ English Bay!!

It is coming up to that time of year again. Time to wash away the old year and start the new one off with a dip in the Ocean!! This will be the third year the POF'ers gets together for this event. ALL are welcome to either jump in with us, or be our cheering section!
We will be meeting:
!!~NEW YEARS DAY~!!
any time after 12 noon (head to the beach about 1:30)
at
Checkers Bar and Grill in the Best Western Sands Hotel
1755 Davie St., (right near Davie and Denman)
Vancouver, BC
The swim takes place at 2:30pm with registration opening up at 12:30. So get down to the beach and register first, then head over to the Sands Hotel, CHECKERS and meet up with us crazy fish! Our very own, BigPapaG is spinning the tunes starting at noon for the pre and post swim party and the kitchen will be open even earlier than that!
Last year we got there early, enjoyed a meal and a bit of the 'hair of the dog' before heading down to the beach (1/2 block away). After our 'dip', we headed back to the hotel where we had a place to change and back to CHECKERS for some dancing in the aisles.. literally!
For those driving down, if you get there early you can usually pay for parking in the back of the Sands Hotel..

**TO BRING ALONG**
~a bathing suit under whatever you choose to wear into the water
~a towel
~some easy slide-on shoes for the wet feet/sand
~housecoat for walking to and from the beach (some prefer fur coats *grin*)
**TO DO**
~register before the swim at English Bay(they have t-shirts available for sale too)
~DON'T~ turn and have your mouth open once you have dipped to your shoulders!!! There might still be another 2,000 people rushing at you and the salt water doesn't taste so great..... er.. not that i would know that from experience.. *wink*

Last year was a blast - cold but a blast. I was part of the 'cheering' section - maybe I'll get enough nerve to take the dip this year... Have I lost my mind?
Count me in. I'll either be cheering all my POF friends into English Bay...or taking a nice cool dip into the Ocean waters.....

Last year was my FIRST time and now i'm hooked.
The b4 and after party was a blast and changing together was a blast too!!
We NEED more pple to come out and SWIM with us fishes as well as party with us!
DON'T be shy and be brave especially if u wanted to do this type of event with GREAT friends!!!

Dp we have a theme" What about if we dressed like fish or fishermen (fisherpersons?)

There are a few serious swimmers who wear wet suits but they do the distance swim out to the rescue boat and back. | |

Posted: 12/27/2007 3:07:45 PM | There are various "Teams" that start out at Checkers where they come in to their own theme music... the Seattle Fire Dept. Clown Troupe is always the biggest and loudenst but the Nurses in Lingerie and the Rowdy Mexicans are always popular...

We fish do like to have some fun!!

3 more days....are all the fish ready to jump into the really really big pond ( the one we refer to as the ocean)
